Andy Pred 48 337 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 RUSLAN SALEI and DUSTIN PENNER could be inbound in a trade that could involve more than 2 Wings heading to the Pond. Penner has good numbers in the AHL and is averaging a point every 2 games for the Ducks.Still only23, but at 6'4" and 243lb is an imposing figure on the right wing and could be the physical pressence which has been lacking, not sure if he is a drop the gloves type of player, or his size does the talking for him? Salei is a steady D with a +14 rating so far this season, on a middle of the table Ducks side. A first round draft pick, he has been at Arrowhead for nearly 10 yrs and is still only 31. May be able to improve his numbers on the Wings blueline but would he an improvement on what we already have? Who would be the likely trade option's? Rivers, Bootland, Maclean & Wolley. Barnes52 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 (edited) Where'd you hear this? I hope it's not Bootland though Edited February 20, 2006 by Barnes52
Hatcher#2 13 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 (edited) This would be awesome if true, but i don't think Bootland would be involved in the trade, but Hudler could be a possibility. A couple of rumours are flying around that Hudler could be available and with the log jam at centre in this organisation and the lack of big wingers i would welcome this trade with open arms. There were 18 scouts at the Griffins vs Cleveland game the other night and 16 of them were from the NHL. Edited February 20, 2006 by Hatcher#

Barnes52 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 Right, and Toronto is offering Sundin for Mowers... C'mon FF24, I don't think this trade is out of the realm of possibility. Detroit has a stable of talent that may not be utilized because of the logjam of players with the parent club, guys like Hudler are expendible and guys like Salei are expendable to cut salary and because he's a ufa next year I believe. Barnes52 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 Believeable or not, a link would be nice, and even you'd agree with that Barnes52. Of course it'd be nice, but maybe they can't because they heard from a reliable source and don't want to compromise it. Not as ridiculous as an Eklund rumor and gives us something to discuss besides what a waste the Olympics have been

Thanks I was watching the game the other night on B2 and Kaser(the Griffs radio announcer) was talking about the amount of Nhl scouts who were in attendance to watch the Griffins play. StaticWithABeat 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2006 (edited) I suspect Salei would take more than one of our minor leaguers to land. He's durable, tough, defensively sound, logs tons of minutes, and is relatively affordable to cap it all off. I'm sure there are other teams around the league who would offer up more for him than we would. Edited February 21, 2006 by StaticWithABeat

You may be right, but there's a lot of defensemen available right now so the market may not be too expensive for a Salei
fatcat6 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2006 Does anybody know how good this Pinner guy is supposed to be and what kinda role he's supposed to be on teams?
Heaton 1 Report post Posted February 21, 2006 I swear, it's only the Detroit Lions and the trade speculation where I become a downer, but I don't see the Wings trading Lang at all this season. I honestly feel that the chemistry factor will clog Holland's brain and he won't want to trade him. But I wouldn't be sad if I end up being wrong.
J-Swift 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2006 Does anybody know how good this Pinner guy is supposed to be and what kinda role he's supposed to be on teams? Dustin Penner "Hockey's Future" doesn't appear to be sold on him becoming an effective player, but their talent assessment of him is exactly what this team could use. It mentions something about problems with a consistent effort; I would want that problem corrected before he ever made the Wings and became the "lunchpail kind of grinder" HF describes him as being. Mule39 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2006 I could see Lang being dealt only because of his remaining contract.
J-Swift 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2006 I don't see Detroit trading Hudler.I think it would be a mistake if they did. Detroit can't be holding onto every prospect, especially when they clearly have needs elsewhere. But if the Wings were to throw in the AHL's third leading scorer (Hudler) in place of Bootland, I'd want Anaheim to sweeten the deal a little.
fatcat6 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2006 Thanks J-Swift. Now after reading that, Penner's not the type of guy at all the I want to see Detroit pick up.

Fingercots 6 Report post Posted February 21, 2006 i think someone like penner or artyukhin would be great for the wings. they are young and HUGE. even if they dont pan out, id say they are worth a shot. and from what ive seen of them, they each look like they could develop into good players. Salei and Penner that would be sick. Huge fan of Penner's game, Salei so-so for me just cuz I think we could do better but....whatever he would work come playoff time. Breakdown: Hudler = Penn Woolley+2nd rounder = Salei ruling: Hudler<Punner Woolley<anybody younger than
fatcat6 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2006 I still say the team is fine, and that there arn't really any needs to make changes, but kinda off of what Seth said, if it can help the team go playoff time, I'm up for it.
