EstonianWingsFan#1 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2006 Well it seems that Jakub Kindl was pushed to the Griffins after unlucky playoff series in OHL. Now the question to you guys who saw him in this 6 - 0 victory last night - How was he, how did he handle his game in the AHL level? I'm way too curious, I have so high hopes for this dude. I think there are lots of other fans also closely looking at Kindl, checking out his every move. Well if anyone saw, we'd be glad to hear.. Thanks.
Hatcher#2 13 Report post Posted April 9, 2006 Kindl played very solid last night. As the game went on he looked more and more relaxed and the thing that stood out to me was his composure on the puck, nothing seems to phase him at all. With the Griffins being up by 4 goals pretty early in the game coach ireland had him out there all the time and he used his time well, and he played on the power play getting a number of good shots on net and he did manage to get an assist in his first pro game. All in all he showed why the Wings were right to pick him with their 1st pick.

J-Swift 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2006 Wow I was totally unaware he played for the Griffs, I didn't think he was allowed. How long is he going to be there for? I'd imagine for the duration of the Griffins' playoff run, but he'll wind up back on the Kitchener Rangers at the start of the next OHL season. Unless Detroit puts him on their roster next year, which is awfully unlikely.

Is that even allowed? I thought once you go pro you cant go back. I might be totally wrong as I dont know much about minor league transaction rules but that's how I've always thought of it. I might be totally wrong as I dont know much about minor league transaction rules but that's how I've always thought of it. I've always been a little hazy on those kind of rules too, but I know it is possible to send players down from the NHL back to their junior leagues. Colorado did it with Wolski this season, and I think the Jackets did it with Gilbert Brule. In fact, Wojtek Wolski went on to finish third in OHL scoring after playing 9 games for the Avs this season. I don't think guys playing for North American junior leagues can actually stay in the AHL at Kindl's age, unless the player's junior league season is over (which in Kindl's case, it is). However, I think guys from European leagues are allowed to come over to the AHL and play at that age, New Jersey's Nicklas Bergfors was playing for the Albany River Rats this season despite being drafted in 2005. FunkyBlueFish203 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2006 He will only play the remainder of the regular season. The Griffins already declared their playoff roster and Kindl wasn't on it so he won't be allowed to participate. Since his season with the Rangers ended early, they just brought him over to test him out. I think he'll start the next season with the Rangers, too but don't quote me on that. Rice 42 Report post Posted April 9, 2006 Hmm, because I know in most sports once you go pro it means you're accepting money to play and violating your amateur status. I guess its different in the NHL.
FunkyBlueFish203 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2006 Kindl only signed an amateur tryout contract. http://www.griffinshockey.com/newsroom/news/?id=5466 I'm not sure what the rules are regarding his pro status after he plays with the Griffins.

CHL kids on ATOs are exempt from that declaration (see Carter and Richards for the Phantoms last season). peace

Bluedevils_13 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2006 Not that it matters, but I know Pittsburgh's Fleury got sent down to Cape-Brenton in the "Q" after playing for the Penguins for like 20 or so games.
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted April 10, 2006 A little clarification, since so many people seem to be confused: A player who is coming from a CHL team cannot play in the AHL during his CHL team's season until he reaches age 20. This is due to the old NHL Entry draft rules; originally, the draft age was 20 because of junior eligibility rules. When it was lowered to 18, rules were put in place that a junior player could not play for a minor league team until his junior eligibility was up. Those rules do not apply to non-juniors players, who can play in the minors at any age.
