Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted December 1, 2006 What will you do when Datsyuk plays for another team?!??!?! The same thing all those fans of Brett "he's not a lazy-ass, honest!" Hull did: disappear, and for the better.
Nhurdi 42 Report post Posted December 4, 2006 1. It seems that WingNutt has not watched Smyth play very much. Smyth has played his style of hockey since he entered the league and his style of hockey is the primary reason The Oilers have knocked many, many top seed contenders out of the playoffs. Even with far less talented Oiler teams. Captain Canada would be a great fit here in Detroit i think. Both players are UFA's at year end. Both players want raises. In this case on Smyth i think is some what deserving of one as he has consistently taken less money to stay in Edmonton. If he felt he had a good chance to win the cup here i could see him coming here too. Only problem i hear is that Smyth is looking for arround 5 mill a season. Not sure on cap space and he just broke his thumb and is out for a tad. Some people (WingNutt) have to stop using there love for a player blind them when thinking of Detroit hockey. It's a business and the GM's are supposed to strive to make the team better not make life long pals to give rewards to for mediocre offensive #'s. If a trade makes sense for the team i hope Holland goes for it.
Seth 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2006 wow another trade Datsyuk thread, This time its trade Dats for Smyth hahahah I take it not many of you guys actually play the game. Smyth is no where near the talent level of Datsyuk. Hes a Tall Gumpy player, He has zero speed, skates like crap, all he can do is stand infront and sometimes ontop of goalies and whack in garbage rebound goals. I say leave his ugly ass back in Canada. I don't want him here. now for example a good pick up for the Wings would be Brian Rolston, tough player with skills. when it comes to Smyth you have no clue what your talking about. Rolston would be sick be he is definetly not avaiable buddy.
Doctor G 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2006 I not going to get on WingNut's case, but I think Smyth would be a great pick-up. He brings a lot of talent and leadership, qualities the Wings or any team for that matter could use. One thing that makes me concern is everyone Datysuk is rumored to be dealt for are UFA's. Which is understandable since he is one himself, but it would be great if they traded him for someone who was young and signed long term.
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted December 8, 2006 traded him for someone who was young and signed long term. So trade Datsyuk for someone younger who will be around long term? You DO realize the drop in skill level that means? A couple good examples: Bill Guerin for Anson Carter Edmonton deals a top level winger who will, in a couple years. command a huge salary for a mediocre winger who will play less than three seasons with the Oil. Robert Lang for Tomas Fleischmann. Washington trades the league's leading scorer at the time for a mid-level offensive prospect who has scored only 3 points--all assists--in 22 NHL games in two years of spot duty with what might be the league's weakest team at forward. Mathieu Schneider for Sean Avery, and Tambellini/Grebeshkov for Parrish/Sopel Yes, Kuznetsov and picks were involved as well. But Avery is the only one to make any sort of impact on the Kings--Kuznetsov is long since gone and Tambellini was dealt away with Denis Grebeshkov for impending UFAs Mark Parrish and Brent Sopel. Parrish is no longer with the team, and Sopel is a third pairing defenseman in the NHL. Effectively the two trades could be laid out as one simple Schneider+Grebeshkov for Avery+Sopel. Hardly a good swap for the Kings, but worked out great for the Wings and Isles.
WingNutt 12 Report post Posted December 8, 2006 QUOTE(Heaton @ December 1, 2006 - 01:19PM) What will you do when Datsyuk plays for another team?!??!?! The same thing all those fans of Brett "he's not a lazy-ass, honest!" Hull did: disappear, and for the better. My question to you Heros is what will YOU do when Lang plays for another team???? I will be a loyal fan to Pasha whereever he plays but I still see him in Detroit. Holland sure went through a mess to get him signed and brought back from the super league. besides Holland knows that Dats has skills you can't find everyday. Smyth is a gump. Canadians on these forums still must be sour about the Olympic game

I find it more fun as a fan to support the team as is, vs. always trying to figure out who should be on the chopping block. All things aside, I like smyth, think he's a good player, wouldn't want him at the cost of Dats though.
