Forsberg trade close

how the hell did this deal happen? what did holland NOT do to allow forsberg to go to the PREDS?!

lets just hope that forsberg gets some sort of injury and then retires after this season.

Perhaps Holland did not have Parent to offer? Perhaps Holmgren was more interested in that?

Perhaps Holland actually feels this team is too weak even with Forsberg, and doesn't want to leave an empty farm behind?

Who knows? What does it matter. Deal is done. Holland has to go for another player. As simple as that.

So when will we snag Bertuzzi? I mean Nashville is arming for the playoffs. Grab Bert, and maybe a physical Dman and I think we are set

Do you actually think he'll stick around in Nashville?? Hes a rental, and an expensive one at that. The Canucks havent exactly been enamored of Morrison lately and hes a UFA. Combine the fact that Forsberg will be available with the fact that his best friend is Markus Naslund, whom hes already expressed more than interest in playing with, is a Canuck and it makes Nashville that much less likely.

And if not Vancouver, he repeatedly has said how much he likes playing for the Flyers.

PRICELINE NEGOTIATOR! Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Anyways, after looking at this trade, I wonder what the consenses of this was to give up so much for Forsberg. Upshall and Parent are two budding young players, not to mention two high end draft picks. I'm actually not mad we missed Forsberg if we had to give up that much for him. Let Nashville suck on him for the rest of the year, and then he'll go back to Philly.

I'm glad that we didn't get him for the price tag ... Imagine having to ship out Flapjack and all that ... Bertuxzzi for a low cost would be good now, i hate the guy but i think he can get the job done

What would you have wanted Holland to do?

He doesn't have any say in where Forsberg goes, he can only try to bring him here.

And Forsberg went at a premium. Waaay too much for Detroit to match.

About the only other thing Holland could've done was hit him with a bag of doorknobs and throw Floppa in the trunk of his car so he coudn't sign with the Preds.

Not impressed. I wouldn't have been impressed if the Wings acquired him either.

Forsberg's health, IMO, is still shaky especially to last the rest of the season and the playoffs.

And just b/c he's going to Nashville does not = a division win, conference win, or a Cup win for the Preds.

People need to realize that Nashville needs to win NOW!!!!

They do not have the luxury of being in a great hockey city like Detroit. There attendence blows and they know it. They are hoping Forsberg can hopefully fix this and lead them to a Cup.

My thoughts: Too much for us to match. I will be the first one to call out Holland when I think he has screwed up, but I gotta give him a warm and fuzzy hug for this one. He made a good decision by not matching this trade with our youngsters. Hopefully this means we are looking at someone like Bertuzzi, Fedoruk, or Fedotenko and can find a home for Lang (even though I am not looking forward to losing Langer... :( )

I think that'd be an excellent idea. One-up from that would be hiring mercs to kidnap the entire Nashville Predators squad, and hold them until June.

Sometimes the best deals you can make, are the deals you make illegally. Go Kenny!

can someone please tell me what the f*** holland is waiting on to sign someone?

What do you want Holland to do? Do you really want him to trade our young talent for a injury prone player past his prime? Holland was smart for not falling into this Forsberg trap. This isn't playstation. Trades take time, and many don't work out.

Cuz contrary to popular LGW belief, Holland is not the man who decides whether a guy is to be traded and to which price.

Do you think guys just fall out of the sky and ask to be signed by the Wings??? EVERY player that would be of value to the Wings is of value to another team as well. I dont even know why you have to ask this question. Negotiating is key in any business and when you want something that a lot of other people want as well, you have to offer a competitve price while not selling the farm to get it.

Welcome to Econ 101.

If we could ship off Willy and defer our bonus payments til next year, I think wed have about 3.5M in cap space. Thatd be plenty for Bert and Fedoruk without having to give up Lang. Although the idea of Bert worries me given his health right now.

exactly

There are still other options - good options - available and Forsberg wasnt exactly what we needed.

And for those of you who are so concerned about Holland making a trade, understand that Illitch and the entire Red Wings organization will do everything they can to at the very least LOOK like they are doing everything they can to win the Stanley Cup. The only year we really didnt make a big name trade in recent years was last year, and only because 1) cap space was minimal and 2) There were next to options available in terms of a physical defenseman that didnt cost at least 3 times his worth. Not to mention, Detroit was far and above the best team in the league in the standings. This year that is not the case.

Yes, some people--oddly enough--seem to believe that Illitch and co. are bent on the Wings committing economic suicide. Uhm, no.

27 points in 2002 is pretty monstrous.

8 points in 6 games in '06

11 points in 11 games in '04

8 points in 7 games in' 03

27 points in 20 games in '02

14 points in 11 games in '01

15 points in 16 games in '00

24 points in 19 games in '99

11 points in 7 games in '98

17 points in 14 games in '97

21 points in 22 games in '96.

he's scored at least a point per game every single year he's been in the playoffs (except 00, and in 96 when he only had 21 points in 22 games).

what would you consider monstrous?

Eh, f*** it-- I spoke incorrectly.

Even if that was true... Z is pretty much alone.

UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
