3/6 GDT: Predators @ Red Wings

Sullivan and Hartnell are tied for the team lead in goal scoring. Forsberg is... Forsberg.

And then we lost our best faceoff guy (Nichol) in the first, and Zidlicky in the second.

I'd say that the teams injury situation is about equal right now. Preds was worse, but we got Legwand and Arnott back last night.

Sure, your injury situation is bad too, but ours is worse IMO. We are missing 4 of our top 9 scorers, and of course Hasek. Still finding a way to get the 2 points is saying alot about this team, and I'm just glad the boys could do that in such an important game. Next 3 games between the teams should be fun, and we'll all find out soon enough who will take the Division, and more than likely the conference as well.

I said the preds WAS worse. But not anymore, we got back two guys, and you guys lost Holmstrom.

Either way you look at it, both teams are hurting bad right now. It sucks that we could get these teams fully healthy this month with so many games head to head.

I think both teams faced similar difficulties last night. Both teams still had some potent offensive weapons in their line ups (Datsyuk, Lang, Lidstrom for Detroit; Arnott, Dumont, Kariya for Nashville), had the majority of their D healthy, had a lot of younger faces in the line up and yet they still battled hard. I was really impressed with the pace and intensity of the game, and the fact it never got too chippy; to me that's a sign these two teams respect each other too much to take garbage penalties trying to make "statements". Even Maltby and Tootoo behaved themselves last night.

tootoo behaved himself after he missed that hit and embarassed himself completely hahaahah

Yeah we were laughing so hard. The Wings bench didn't even try to help in up or anything. They kinda just glanced at him. Their non-reactions made me laugh so hard.

Seriously, it really seemed like he took himself out of the game with that move...I hardly noticed him at all after that

Good game last night wings fans. Congrats.

I want to make one last statement pertaining to the hatred for the wings. Last night was a perfect example. Both teams with substantial injuries, IMO, you guys were a little worse off. Because of this, I thougth the Preds would win, not destroy the wings, but win the game. But no. The wings played their system, played with intensity and pulled out a win. So that's why we hate the wings. No matter what, you guys always seem to find a way to win and never seem to panic.

So again congrats. That was a really entertaining game and as other Pred fans has said...I feel fortunate that we escaped with a point.

Can't really knock it, without the point for OTL, Preds would be 4 points ahead instead of 1.

well, shootouts suck. why cant they play 4 on 4 until someone scores? its not gonna take THAT many hours. plus, NSH has 6 SO points and DET 2 so i guess the standings would be about the same.

Datsyuk is a unique player. There aren't a lot of guys out there who possess the talent he has, and not too many who also get as much grief for not being perfect all the time. I appreciate him for what he is, and don't project expectations on Dats to perform a miracle every game, ya know? I just enjoy it when he does! Vokoun got rattled and that's what a talented goal scorer like Dats does --confuse the opposition and dazzle them with moves they can't even imagine. Luc Robitaille was the same sort of scorer, IMO. No goalie wanted to see him near their net in his best days.

Your scenario of Datsyuk coming in on a goalie is sort of the reverse of shooters' feelings, when they would come in on Hasek in his heyday. "OMG, OMG!! What the hell am I gonna have to do to beat this guy??" Squeeze the stick, over-commit, try to stare down the Dominator... Hasek waits them out, reads the play, and boom: Dom's your Daddy. I think he's lost a bit of the mystique over the years, but not too much of the skills. Despite what the nay-sayers think, he's still formidible in goal and will bring it when the clutch 'tending is needed.

i love how you've morphed your post into something about dom.

thank you! :P I can't stand to see him ignored, you know...

i hear ya, hey, he deserves the accolades.

i'd like to see 4 0n 4 for 5 minutes, and then 3 0n 3 for five minutes, myself. i think that'd be fun to watch. obviously still a somewhat arbitrary conclusion to a game, but it has more to do with hockey ( a team sport) than the shootout.

Yeah, followed by 5 minutes of 2 on 2 and another 5 of 1 on 1. If the score is even by then, the goalies fight it out, rugby style :hehe:

I must say it was a nail biter of a game, but fun.

My intital reaction to Tootoo landing on our bench was, "If you want a lap dance, go find a topless bar."

I STILL haven't figured out how Pasha managed to get that puck in the goal in the first. To say that puck had eyes is an understatement.

Way to go guys - you deserved to win.

I'll be there Sunday! I can't wait! Anyone else going to that game?
