KevinD 1 Report post Posted March 7, 2007 (edited) http://www.tsn.ca/tsn_talent/columnists/gino_reda/ "A plus to Ken Holland, whose work with the Red Wings just earned him some much deserved recognition. Despite the loss of significant talent during the offseason, his club is third overall. And now The Hockey News just ranked him the #1 GM in the league" the hockey news isn't available yet online. HenrikRules40 14 Report post Posted March 7, 2007 I often feel like I have an emotionally abusive relationship with the Red Wings. And this extends to Ken Holland as well. Sometimes I feel like he treats me so well...like in the summer of 2001! With every acquisition I fell more in love with him. But then sometimes I feel like he hates me b/c he signed Lilja to two more years of idiocy right before the playoffs last year. And now I'm back to loving him b/c of the Calder and Bert deals. But is this just the honeymoon period in yet another cycle of abuse?!?!? I'm so distraught!

WingsownNHL 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2007 Holland is without a doubt the #1 GM in the NHL. He has successfully rebuilt a franchise without actually having to go through any rebuilding like seasons. He (with help from scouts and other people) has found Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Kronwall, Lebda, Franzen, Filpulla, Kopecky, Hudler, Cleary, Samuelsson... and more to come with Grigorenko, Howard, Kindl.... BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted March 7, 2007 I'm probably going to get some heat for this one, but I'd say best GM in the NHL is a toss up between Brian Burke and Ken Holland. Two totally different styles and personalities but both so effective. John Muckler is pretty damn good too.
HenrikRules40 14 Report post Posted March 7, 2007 I think you need help just kiddin` I know what you mean. He makes good deals and bad deals but some how they sorta balance out. I definitely need help. But looking around the league, Holland has done a great job...not good, great. Someone's sig on here has a quote from Marcus Naslund saying something to the effect of "The Red Wings don't rebuild, they reload." First, that's an awesome quote. Second, he's right...and much credit goes to Kenny.

Rice 42 Report post Posted March 7, 2007 Lamoriello and Holland are the best. I don't like Holland's reluctance to get rid of some of the dead weight, but there's no denying that the Wings have been the most consistent team in hockey for a long time. If Burke wins a Cup he'll be up there too.
metalwinger_13 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2007 i think he might be a pinch overrated but i still think hes one of the best.. him and NIll make a great duo as a asst GM and GM so that doesnt hurt. but the forbes things is really stupid, they know nothign about hockey and or sports to be doing anythign with that atricle.. the hockey news does a better job and was surprised at him being number one actually. but i mean you have to give hijm a hand for the bert deal with the mid prospect and 2 conditional picks... i mean s*** thrasers gave up a ton for a almost done tkacuk (sp), and nashville did too.. but i think we got the steal of the trade deadling with calder and bert thanx to mr. holland. that alll i have to say ha
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted March 7, 2007 I dont know if hes THE BEST but hes one of the better ones. And before anyone goes off on a tangent about how he has a great staff around him, please recognize that NO GM does the job all on his own.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted March 7, 2007 I've always thought Kenny was the best GM in the league. Regadless of what he has or hasn't done in the last few years, he still makes the great moves needed to win.

Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted March 7, 2007 I don't know if he's "The best" but he definitly is in the top 5. He did great at the deadline this year, aquiring the grit that the Wings need for the playoffs. Now, if he gets rid of Lilja, and keeps Bootland up over Langfeld, I may just give him the number one spot! Really though, he deserves it. He did a good job at the deadline, and in many times past. If Bertuzzi comes through, he will be a genious for giving up almost nothing in the process. I go to Forbes for my GM insight
Offsides 21 Report post Posted March 7, 2007 (edited) Ozzie Feds? OR that he let Ozzie go in 2001. Ooh, Reverse it and you got it. I can never forgive Holland for lying and saying that he wouldn't give up Ozzie after the playoffs when we lost. Don't say it if you don't mean it. But I guess it all worked out right, Ozzie's back now, and looking back it can be forgiven, now that I can understand sort of what was behind it. I will always love Holland for matching the offer to Carolina and retaining Sergei Fedorov. I've not often been so pleased with a hockey decisions in my life! It kept Sergei here for a few more years at least. But again...it ended in the same result. Edited March 7, 2007 by Offsides
