Datsyuk Negotiations

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Jason Duncan sends in the following on Pavel Datsyuk: "From Ansar Khan of mlive.com: "With the trade deadline gone, Wings general manager Ken Holland will focus

on getting deals for some of his impending unrestricted free agents. He'd

like to get one or two signed by the end of the regular season, before

tabling all talks until after the playoffs.

Gary Greenstin, the agent for Pavel Datsyuk, believes they are making

progress in contract talks.

"We're in the same boat as the Detroit Red Wings,'' Greenstin said. "I'm

very confident Pavel Datsyuk will stay in this organization.''

-----Not really a whole of info, but given the battles with Datsyuk in the

past I'll take it as good news."

Spectors

This is good news.

For the right price I'd be happy with all of them staying, even Malts, who would be #4 for me on that list now that we have some young and talented grinders coming up.

Man, I'm squirming.

Datsyuk, Lang, Schneider, and Maltby should NOT be signed until after the playoffs. (edit: some of them should not be re-signed period)

Wait and see how they play in the post season.

It's an attractive idea, from the management point of view. But why would a player and his agent NOT test the free agent market, if the Wings won't sign them before June anyway? Any hope of a hometown discount would then be lost, and Detroit would have to overbid other teams to sign the players they want. Or do you bank on the Wings, and these players in particular, tanking in the playoffs again?

at least you are still there...(but thats another story)=).

I'm here for now, we'll see how much longer once the resumes I sent out start getting nibbles

At least Dats isn't in Russia right now, that really didn't help negotiations last time.

For Lang and Maltby: too old, ineffective, lazy, whatever. I hope they kick ass this spring and then go find another town where they can ply their trade.

Schneider: Kronwall.

Datsyuk: I'd rather risk overpaying this summer than getting a good deal now and it turning out to be bad news when Pavel can't get it done. Tons of faith to your bro, for real, but past returns do indicate a trend and that's no good.

same here...i'm just waiting for the freeze to be lifted and im out to another job...

i have always heard it was his agent that has messed everything up for him...not sure. but if i were him i would rather stay with a team that has a chance to make the playoffs the next few years then go to a team i would make more money with and not be able to make the playoffs..look at feds

Maltby innefective? Have you been watching at all this season? Or any season for that matter? Maltby is a pest, he gets under the other teams skin. He doesnt score alot of goals, but thats not his spot on the team. His job is to mix it up with the other team. I mean just the other day he was stirring s*** up with the whole chicago bench, and then again in colorado. He gets to the opposing teams heads, he makes them worry about him, and while they are busy doing that, the rest of thw wings can put the puck in the net. I think your crazy to call him inefective. He may be getting older, but lazy and inefective? No way.

Lang...he may be getting lazy and inefective. But ever since the calder pick up, hes been on a roll. Hes been playing great the past few games, not to mention he shows up in the playoffs. Hmmm a playoff performer on the red wings...how many of those do we have...i say let him play in the playoffs before you discard him like an old pair of tennis shoes.

The only knock against Maltby is his price tag. If he were making 900K, he'd be a steal even with his current play. So if Holland can sign him for 1 mil. or slightly more, I'd be for it.

Lang... He does manage to produce somehow, in spite of what people here say about him. But if he doesn't have a stellar playoffs, he shouldn't be resigned, IMO.

Kronwall is OK but not yet great. And he already is in the lineup. If Schneider goes, how much will it cost to replace him, if that's even possible? If he can be signed for 1-2 years at about the same rate of pay, Holland should do it.

Datsyuk. I will admit to being partialabout him. Because of the fact that he has great chmistry with Zetterberg, and seems to be developing the same with Filppula, and the way he's been playing thesse last few months, I'd take a chance on him. I believe that he will do wellin the playoffs this year. And if he doesn't, Holland can trade him easily, especially if he is signed now below his free market price. Teams will be lining upto get a first-line center of that caliber.

Totally agree. Dats could be such a fan favorite if he wasn't constantly threatening to leave. I would hope he's older now, more mature, got paid well, and would be happy staying with one team for the best years of his career, all while getting a well deserved raise.

I wasn't applying lazy to Kirk, but honestly he's been worse now than at any point in his Detroit career. He looked like his old self a couple days games ago but he had a terrible game against Nashville. Calder notwithstanding, he's got our worst +/-, doesn't score anymore, and only very rarely agitates like he used to. I'd just as well let him go at seasons end and let some youth fill that role.

Which is precisely what I said... not that we could move him anyhow.

While dats hasnt produced in the postseason, he has constantly been amazing during the regular season, trading him away would be retarded in my opinion, and why wait until the summer? If he plays well in the playoffs not only will his price tag go up, but he might then decide to "shop around"

Huh? What are you getting at?

Well like in football they put franchise tags on there star players, i was just wondering if the Wings will do that with Dats or will it just be a 3 year deal? does that make more sense or no

Man you so crazy. :hehe:

Dats is a good enough reason to watch the wings play on ANY night. Seeing those magic dangles and his crazy vision... WOW I love watching him play 82 games a year, why can't you?

There is no such thing as a franchise tag in the NHL.

Unless you're Sidney Crosby

Darren Helm? Perhaps not quite ready though.
