Mathieu Schneider gone next year?

two points to mind:

1. this team is built on defense. and we can not afford not to have good and capable defense

2. Schneider is an offensive defenseman, one of those better in the league. and he's good for his price tag. whether he is irreplacable - that's another question. if Holland can shop for a guy making less mistakes and less money and still on similar level of play - why not?

I hate his turnovers, and it used to be that on the rare occasion that you saw him, Willy, and Pavel on the ice at the same time, I'd curl into a ball and pray for it to end soon. His shots lately have been terrible, High and Wideâ„¢ is certainly an appropriate title. Despite all that, he's obviously quite good at what he does, and should be kept if the price is right.

You people are all crazy.

High and Wide needs to be dropped like a bad habit.

Where's your clever name for Kronwall? how about "I'm a tough guy with my cage, but I've still managed to be the worst defenseman on this team for the past 3 consecutive months"

Or you could just call him "-3", since he's also our only defenseman with that honor as well.

I dont think they will be able to afford him. If both Dats and Bertuzzi have great playoffs they should be ahead of Schneids in the resigning department.

Datsyuk and great playoffs ?

You're kidding right ?

If the Wings don't resign him they'll end up trading for someone just like him at the deadline, giving up pics and prospects. Just keep the known quantity here. Skilled 2 way d-men are a premium in this diluted league.

Talk about laughing uncontrollably...

Did someone actually say that Schneids is a good TWO-way D-man???

If he didn't score 20+ a season then he wouldn't be any better than Lilly-pad. SEE-YA!

Kronwall is no replacement for Schneiders offense. And Kronwall gives the puck away just as much or more than Schneider.

BUT HE HITS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Why is it that we all continue to blow smoke up Kronwalls ass anyways? He's 26, and yet he hasn't shown any of this potential we so candily here about. The response to that is "Well he's always injured and this is his first season lolz!!!!!!11" Please, give me a break already. Did we all have this much patience for Kuznetsov, Eriksson or Wallin when they still played here? No. So what makes Kronwall any different?

And if Schneider leaves, who replaces his offense? Kronwall? Right. One goal. Lebda has more then him so far. He's on pace to match Liljas goal amount last year.

Case and Point: Until Kronwall shows this offense that he "supposed" to have, we need Schneider. Otherwise we have no Powerplay. I don't see any other defenseman we have (other than Lidstrom) that is capable of handling the Powerplay like Schneider does.

I personally do not want Schnider back, he is too old and slow. I would rather see Kindl take that spot. I also think the Wings should bring in a tough stay at home Defensman, the Thrashers got a couple guys by the name of Garnett Exelby and Andy Sutton, 2 big strong guys who would defenitly make our defense very rugged and tough to play against. To get one of these guys would be great.

I pretty much agree completely....people keep talking about Kronwall replacing Schneider, I don't see it at happening at all at this point. Have you guys missed the last 15-20 games? I don't think Kronwall could possibly play any worse.

The bottom line is, aside from Lidstrom, we don't have a single defenseman other than Schneider who can play the blue line effectively in the offensive zone. Not one.

if we are to resign schnieds hes going to have to start playing like the schneider that played for the wings before his ijnury. Since his come back he has done nothing but give up turn over after turnover, and itskilling us. Before his injury he was moeny. He was scoring like crazy, he was assisting like crazy. He was excelent. He was giving lidstrom a run for his money. But now hes playing like a rookie with all the turnovers. Hes going to have to show me alot the next couple of weeks to convince me that he can play the way he used to. If he can do that then i say resign him. If not hes more of a reliability than a good player, we already have two liabilities between Kronner and lilja, cant really afford a third in my book.

Whats with all this Kronner bashing? This guy has a ton of upside. Yes he does give the puck away but thats becuase he tries to be too fancy and goes up the middle. Keep it simple Kronner, get the puck along the boards. WHy does Babcock allow him to go up the middle? One of the first things you learn in hockey is to never go up the middle, your always taught to get the puck out along the boards. The only time you go up the middle is if your out of your zone or the other team is nowhere to be seen in your end, such as a line change. If Kronner uses the boards more I think he will cut his turnovers in half and then some.

You need some vetran leadership...other than lids cheli and schneids the rest of the tema is pretty young still, not a bad mix i dont think

and draper, maltby, holmstrom, lang, hasek, osgood, samuelsson, markov ect..

we have plenty of veteran leadership.

I guess i didnt really factor all them in. I think Homer is essential to the team, draper has speed for an older guy, i still love matlby no matter how many bahsers there out there, i think hes good at waht he does, osgood is a good backup, there is no guarantee hasek stays, and langs contract is up, markov asks for to much so i dont see us keepin him. Your right, iguss there are alot of older guys, but some of them play very well still. I dont think you get rid of people that are still playing well just because they are old and you want a young team

Schneiders a really good player. we would be stupid if we did not resign him

Reality will call, I'm afraid. We no longer have unlimited spending potential.

Datsyuk and great playoffs ?

You're kidding right ?

You've been rather crabby lately. What's wrong?

You just stated the exact thing that i hate about him. he gives the puck up to much. Now i think hes a good player, but hte turnovers in our own ends that result in goals.....they gotta go. Also i guess im just kinda of dissapointed with his progression over the 2 years.Everyone kept saying hes suppose to step up and be like lidstrom, and be a good offensive player while still being dominant on defense. Hes not putting up any numbers. His plus minus is the worst on the team, and his slap shot just looks weaker than any other defensemen in the the league. I just wished he would have stepped up to all the hype that was put on him. Hopefully he still can. The only thing i like is that hes finally starting to throw his weight around, but he didnt really start doing that till he got that mask. Hopefully he wil continue that once it comes off (if he ever takes it off haha). Hes not a bad player, just not hte player i was expecting thus far in his career.
