Z will get his money when time comes. The Wings will not shortchange him. The Wings absolutely love this guy, he will absolutely get his bucks.

If the cap continues to rise, Pavel's contract's dollar amount doesn't become a problem. All Wings fans are pulling for Pavel to perform well in the playoffs and be the man here. The Wings are building their team around Pavel and Z and Kronwall and these younger guys.

Pavel has really matured as a player this season. He has performed very well since he was re-united with Z this season and especially since Z went down in February. If he continues his game into the playoffs, this is excellent for both parties.

Holland (Why now?): When the RSL playoffs were going on Gary (Greenstein) and I were talking and were going to talk again before the playoffs... I talked to Gary earlier this week, talked to Mr. Illitch and over the last 4-5 days this week we worked out a deal. You could work it out after the playoffs but I think we wanted to get it done now."

(On re-signing Zetterberg)

"I would say anytime you're doing a contract, we strategize what direction to go because every contract effects another. Hanks got 2-more years, under the CBA we can't talk to him until after July 1st, 2008. When we get an opportunity to talk to Henrik our goal is to keep him as a Red Wing for the long time. We see him and Pavel as our cornerstones... How much of the cap should one player take up? If you don't sign the player you've got to figure out how to replace him. Henrik is certainly a player we want to tie up."

I have to say I'm happy with this deal.

Every season Datsyuk has gotten better and better, and even last night against Chicago I saw some hustle and leadership from him that I've never seen before. Nobody said he would stop getting better after 07, he's still growing into a more complete hockey player and I personally believe he has yet to hit his prime. 7 Years with Datsyuk- Holland is obviously wanting to build around him. I'm sure Zetterberg will be in the wings future as well, especially with the rising salary cap rumors.

Besides didn't the islanders or some team just sign a goalie for 13 years?

Ilitch on a new arena: "I got to talk to my boys about that. It's an ongoing subject. I'd rather not comment on it right now. It's Pavel's day"

No need to rush this. We're talking likely near 6 million. For 7 years? Im not concerned with Nicklas retiring and the cap issue.

Point blank he has not performed the way you'd expect to get this kind of deal.

Are we the Toronto Maple Leafs? Or Islanders?

Respectfully, I take Steve' Yzerman's opinion over yours. :P

Let's see, Pavel playing the best hockey of his career just before the playoffs, it's probably time to do something to drastically change things, right?

Ladies and gentleman, Pavlexei Yashyuk!
