C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 I'm positive, but I would be lying if I didn't say that I had the same sinking feeling in my gut as I did the last two years when we got bounced in the 1st round. I agree, I'm not going to feel completely at ease until we bounce these guys, if we do. Even after the first two games, I knew all it was take is a loss in game 3, and here we are with the Flames getting a chance to tie the freaking thing up on Thursday. Why I'm positive: we took their absolute best shot and survived. This was their game back home with that crowd, backs against the wall, throwing everything they have at us. And in spite of that, we were RIGHT THERE, and if not for a bad goal by Dom, questionable penalties, etc. we probably win, or at the very least we're still playing right now. The sledding will be a little easier in game 4, we should pull it out, then back to the Joe to wrap it up.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 Its not that they some of us have no hope left, but some of us have seen over the last 5 years what happens with this team. Teams steal one from us and come back harder, and then we cant put the wheels back on again. That is what you are seeing. Did this team look confident in the 3rd period? Not to me they didnt. How did they not look confident in the third? The third was by far their best period. Were you watching the same game? This is a different Wings game and I think we all know that. They are not going to let one loss phase them, especially one that they could of won because they played really well. This Wings team is a great, skilled, TOUGH, gritty, team. They know what they have t do, and they are going to play just as desperate as the Flames in Game 4.
BuckeyeWingsfan80 209 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 At this point he is a grinder at best. In the playoffs you dont really have alot of time to get back on your game. He should not have been anywhere near the PP tonight. And after seeing the tinted visor, I think him playing on the grind line should have been more than enough. Between this thread and the other thread about the PP, what are you even doing here? IF all you are going to do is be constantly negative about everything, why waste your time? Troll.... Packer487 3 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 We're fine.... Things in our favor: 1) We played like ass and it was still a close game. 2) We got homered and it was still a close game. 3) Lidstrom will never play that badly again. 4) Hasek is really good after a loss. If we end up not winning the Cup this year though, it's going to be our special teams that are our downfall. Both the PP and PK are sub-par by Red Wing standards, and they were both really bad tonight...cost us the game. It's the reason that SJ scares me so bad, because I swear their PP was like 50% against us this year. I'm losing faith that they'll get it fixed, and if they don't it's going to be tough to make a deep run into the playoffs. That said, it's just one loss. No one honestly thought we were going to sweep this team right? It's not going to happen against a team with a goalie that is that good. I guess until someone wins on the road, you're just holding serve. Gotta get Game 4. -Tim
Airborn 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 thread of the night also, why is no one talking about Z, i know he missed a lot too, but he hasnt exactly stepped up like he was before he got injured He's going through the same thing Dats went through last year. He basically missed the last quarter of the season, and he's going from light practices (mostly without contact), to the most intense games you can play in. Not an easy task. That said, we need him to produce, so I hope he gets the timing down soon.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 I hope they come out and play desperate in game 4. Is this team all that different? I think that remains to be seen. You know what really pisses me off? When fans like you come on here after the Wings are up 2-0 in the series giving the Wings non stop praises, talking about how absolutely fantastic the entire team is playing, they are unstoppable, so much different from the past 4 years..etc.. and then then the very SECOND they lose in a VERY close game that could of gone either way and now all of a sudden they gotta work on SO many things or else they'll be done. You're exactly the description of what a fair weather fan is. It's perfectly find to give constructive criticism, but to make a thread stating they might be golfing early yet again, and that Kipper will make them get 'bounced' again is just overboard and immature. Either stick by your teams side or don't. We all know they need to work on their PP, and PK but that does not take away from the fact that they are playing some of the best playoff hockey since 2002. Give them a freaking break.
Yzerfied 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 If this wakes them up and gives them focus, then this was a learning game and a positive but I get that same sick feeling in my gut too that this is just like all the other times. I want to believe and I want to stay positive but every sign points to DOOM.

Give them a freaking break. To be fair, saying "playing some of their best playoff hockey since 2002" ain't saying a whole lot. They're still fine. We're in good shape if for no other reason than Calgary absolutely blows on the road. But the PP and PK are definite concerns in the future, if we advance. Especially if we see SJ. -Tim
Offsides 21 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 They just barely lost this game. We've been playing great overall. I'm sure we will bounce back and do fine. Heck, if Hasek is hot we might not need anyone else to bounce back yet. GO WINGS!

I commented on things they did well. like show up and play with some guts. What erks me, fans like you who think they are the board police and walk around with a boner for some posters. And yes they have to work on special teams or they are in jeopardy of getting bounced. I think you need to back off and realize that.

Secondly, I never once said they didn't have to work on their special teams. In fact, I believe I DID say that they needed to but it was not the end of the world being ONE loss. Excuse me for thinking it is wrong for some to come out and call doom and gloom after one loss in which the Wings played actually pretty decent. They didn't even play their best hockey, and the Flames played completely desperate yet the Wings COULD of easily won it. What does that tell you? I'm not going to back off when I see posts about the Wings hitting the golf courses early again over one freaking loss.
regwinguofmfan 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 excellent civil post in a not so civil thread, good read and commendations That was a great post. I never expected a sweep, but to see them lose a game that we could have had a giant advantage out of the gate, is not a good sign. That 4 min PP was crucial. I hope we can get special teams back and nowish.
Vladiator 116 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 Not like this was not expected. Lines were changed but I believe this was for the long run. A lot of bad calls but what would you expect playing in CA? If everyone is still playing in Game 4 then that is a good thing. GO WINGS

They are expected to play their best hockey in the playoffs, no? If they could have easily won it, after taking a 2-1 lead they would have. Im not going to back off from the facts. You have to win special teams battles in the playoffs. And yes I also think Robert Lang would be too lazy to walk from the cart to the tee box, although that is just speculation on my part. Hack&Lube 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 The Wings have dangerous skill and passing that outclasses the Flames anyday. They just need to keep the passes on-side. Some of you might blame the officiating but the penalties were 4 and 6 for each team so pretty balanced, it just seemed odd Detroit got a few in succession in the 2nd/3rd. The Flames only won today because (of all things) Lidstrom broke down on a few plays.
FinRedWing 172 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 Obviously Calgary were pissed off after losing the first two games. That & the home ice combined gave them the momentum IMO. Now we're the ones who are a little bit angry after the loss. (notice the "smiley") We'll win Game 4.
