ESPN's PTI / ATH

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

My favorite sports shows/media/broadcast teams, in order:

1) XM 204 satellite radio (any given show, they're all good)

2) Hockey Night In Canada/CBC

3) TSN.ca

4) FSN Detroit/Center Ice

5) ESPN

6) PTI (no hockey, but a good show)

7) Sports Illustrated

8) Taking my dog for a walk and watching her take a sh**

9) Rob Parker

Rob Parker is the worst form of sports entertainment you can find. It's basically an hour of sports ranting, slang, and rap music. I could pull something straight out of my ass and it would make more sense then what Parker says. Hell, Eklund might even be a little (hardly, but still a little) smarter then Rob Parker. Pashaw! :P

I gotta say here: ESPN not liking hockey is no suprise in it's own. Cowlishaw is ok, as is John Buccigross. Barry Melrose, while he may like hockey, annoys the hell out of me. Not as bad as some of, like Kornheiser, but most of the ESPN analyst are just plain morons. If not for incidents like Chris Simon or McLennan, hockey wouldn't exist in their minds. It's too bad the only media attention it does get is bad though. Nothing that can be done about that.

Kornholio spews his hatred for hockey all the time. He does write about the Caps in his Washington Post column once in a while but only when they're doing bad or if something bad happened.

Kornholio has become a caricature, really.

As far as ATH, Woody Paige is noted on divealanche.com as a Colorado homer, so he knows hockey a little. Cowlishaw at leasts tries to pimp hockey once in a while. The rest of the panel is garbage.

Jim Rome, although he's annoying, at leasts pimps hockey when he can. He gets the game.

I for one love PTI despite their lack of hockey coverage. Tony and Mike just remind me of the way my Dad and I argue about sports, I guess. Around the Horn I can take or leave. I don't like how Stat Boy got a big head and thought he could host his own program. Anyway if you think the U.S. version of PTI is bad, you should see the Australian PTI which is mind numbingly horrible.

I'd also like to add this... it's not just a grudge espn has against the NHL, i think it's hockey in general. I say this because the Frozen Four Championship was NOT broadcast in HD. That totally pissed me off.

As for Buccigross, do not be surprised if he is an employee of Versus by the beginning of October. That dude drinks, eat, and sleeps hockey... espn is not for him. I believe it's meerly a paycheck.

I will tell you this, for hockey coverage, I'll take Fox Sports Detroit any day, any time! Ken Daniels, Mickey Redmond, Larry Murphy, Trevor Thompson - they're all die hard hockey/Red Wing fans, and they make it fun to watch FSN.

I'd give anything to have the NHL Channel here in the States. I'd gladly give up the football, golf, basketball, horse racing and soccer channels to have it!

I wonder if maybe Spike TV will try again at a later date to get the NHL?

ESPN bashes hockey ... yawn ... what else is new?

So why do so many LGW posters want the NHL on this station that short-shrifts it and bashes it.

ESPN's attitude toward the NHL is why I am willing to see it on another station, ANY station.

I couldn't agree more. Some here have been very vocal about the lack of availability of Versus, but their NHL coverage is 10000 better than what ESPN had. They have a pre-game shows, post games shows as well as highlights, talk about stuff happening around the league, player inteviews, etc, etc.

They treat hockey like it deserves to be treated. And they don't hide their games like ESPN did on ESPN2 or whever else they'd stick it.

They don't cover sports, they cover THEIR sports. If ESPN lost the rights to the NFL the would barely talk about it.

Isn't the NHL network supposed to come the the States soon?

Edit: Apparently:

....the American version of NHL Network is in development as a joint venture between the NHL and Comcast...

They [Comcast] are contractually obligated to have NHL Network on its systems by summer 2007 at the latest.

If Comcast does not launch the NHL Network by summer 2007, they have to pay a $15 million penalty to the NHL. [3] However, both Comcast and the NHL have an option to end their contract after the 2006-07 season, which would void Comcast's obligation to launch a U.S. version of NHL Network.[4]

I assume this has come up before and I apologize if I bringing up old news...

First off, I hate these guys that work for PTI. Around the Horn isn't much better, but Wilbon and Cornheiser can go to hell. Today's show started with their usual list of topics in a column to the right... MLB, NBA, NBA, NBA, college Fball, MLB, SLASH, MLB, NBA, MLB, NBA, NBA.

All they can do is talk about the bad things that happen in the NHL and it drives me crazy. This is why people think hockey is so barbaric, because if they don't watch games, they are fed bull crap from the mass-media. I love John Buccigross from Sportscenter (and previously NHL2night) and he complains about the media's mis-information super-highway as well. I'd rather them not talk about hockey all together if this is what they're going to do.

And here is some proof that they are total idiots and are commenting on events that they know absolutely nothing about.

the topic "Slash" beings...

Wilbon "When we talk hockey these days, it's usually because somebody is swinging their stick like an axe. And, oh surprise, it happened again this weekend. Calgary back-up goalie, Jamie Mac... Lennon..." (weird pause as if he's unsure how to say the name... really? how hard is it to say McLennan... maybe if you don't follow hockey AT ALL. Therefore he shouldn't report anything about it!) "going Lizzie Boarden to the torsoe of Johan Frazier" (really, Frazier? *******). "...Tony, I thought we were supposed to see less of this junk in the playoffs?"

Cornheiser "Yeah, Jeremy Roenick came on the show and said that you don't see a lot of fighitng in the playoffs." (last time i checked, slashing isn't fighting, retards). The Tony went on to make what he considers a slashing motion... putting two hands together like he was holding a golf club and swinging... obviously this idiot does not know how to hold a hockey stick. That kind of stuff sticks out like a sore thumb to me and he should NEVER report or comment about hockey.

I realize it is not completely the hosts of these shows faults... and now I'm back to ESPN. I hate them. I now try to only visit nhl.com for hockey info and yahoo sports for any other sports info and I urge you to do the same. If it weren't for Buccigross and Melrose, Espn would be dead to me.

Go Wings, Damn it.

BRA-F*#cking-O!!!!!! I cannot stand that dumb ass Cornholer. I do not think either of those two jackoffs played a single minute of any sport.

I am not sure where you live, but we have to listen to that Balloon Knot do our Monday Night Football as well!!!!

Give me Gary Thorne, Bill Clement, Steve Levy or Barry Melrose any day of the week.

I do not know if anyone knows of this but there is an awesome show that comes on Howard 101 on Sirius Satellite. It is the Scott Ferrell Show. This guy used to be an Atlanta Thrashers announcer until he got in a fight with one of the oppossing teams fans. The guy is hella funny!
