Interesting smack from someone whose team is 8-22 against the Packers in the last 30.... This thread is helping somewhat. Seems to me that the keys are: 1) STAY OUT OF THE BOX 2) STAY OUT OF THE BOX 3) Hasek keeps playing out of his mind 4) Pressure their young defensemen into mistakes It's gonna be a fun series. I just wish we were playing them after they faced Anaheim in a tough 6 or 7 game series...stupid Dallas. -Tim I believe that Rex's record against the Crackies from Queen *** is a lovely good one. something to the tune of 4-1 or 5-1. Not too bad for a QB that's made the Super Bowl at least once this decade! Back to hockey The Goaltender Zenmaster's keys to the series: 1. PK/PP. NEED to STOP taking STUPID Penalties. Shorties are always welcome, as long as they outnumber PPG Against 2. Bring the PAIN (train! ) Not necessarily goon it up, but Show em that we can play as physical or more so than they can. 3. Crowd Noise. You say the Joe is Quiet??? Just because the Joe is made out of Steel And Concrete and not sound reverberating materials such as aluminum and drywall, means that we're quiet? THE JOE was Made with Union Labor and American Materials. It'll withstand a Nuclear Blast, let alone 1000 years. HP Pavilion can be silenced, and we have the ability to do it. Hey, Edmonton came back from a 0-2 series deficit last year to beat them, we can do it too. P.S. If the joe's so damn quiet, then why are we 3-0 at home? 4. Hasek has to be himself, but do less adventuring out of the crease. I'm nearly having a stroke every time he leaves to play the puck, and San Jose's ice has given him trouble before. 5. Get our Grinders out there. It seems that the more time our 3rd and 4th lines had out there, the better. Remember Lang's goal from Bert and Cheli in Game 6? let's do that again! 6. Especially with the arrival of Rivet from the Habs, he has settled the D down a lot. Also, the youngest youngin on the Sharks Defensive core, Marc-Edouard Vlasic is flat out very very good. He led the team in ice time as a 19 year old for most of the season. Plays like a seasoned vet. Hannan is also a very poised Defenseman who has shut down Forsberg in the past. 2) The Sharks Offense. In a word: Balanced. The Sharks get scoring from ALL FOUR LINES. And more importantly, Ron Wilson regularly rolls all four lines, keeping them fresh. He doesn't usually shorten his bench and overplay Thornton and Marleau who for the most part play on separate lines to spread out the scoring threat. Plus the Sharks forwards have size and speed. I think the Wings may have more trouble shutting down the Sharks forwards then you are giving them credit for. 3) Goaltending. No Nabby is no Kipper. In point of fact, the Sharks actually HAD Kipper and decided that Nabby was better and traded him off to Calgary for a second rounder that turned into Marc-Edouard Vlasic. But yes, although Kipper has been a Vezina caliber goalie, that doesn't make Nabby chopped liver, either. he didn't win the Calder for nothing. Plus, you need to factor in the intangible that Nabby's mentor and father figure Warren Strelow, his goalie coach and confidant for the last decade died on opnening night of the playoffs. Nabby has something to play for. 4) Special teams. The Sharks PP wasn't good at all against the Preds. But all season long it ran hot and cold and it was still good enough for 2nd overall. Now's about the time for it to start running hot again. 5) The Wings are 3-0 on home ice. Yeah, well the Sharks are 2-0 on home ice. We didn't need to go to a 3rd home game to close out our opening series. 6) The Sharks had more wins than the Wings in the regular and played in a much tougher division to get those wins. The Wings got to feast on the likes of Columbus, Chicago & St. Louis all year long whicle we got to face the Ducks and Stars. A very even match up. Sharks in 6. MTU_Huskies963 398 Report post Posted April 24, 2007 1. no kipper 2. no iginla 3. no iginla's henchmen 4. hasek 5. hank, pav, nick, homer, flip, lang, sammy, markov, lebda, schneider, Lilly, calder, bert, cheli, mule, cleary, draper, maltby, quincey, hudler, and of course ozzie 6. 3-0 on home ice... Exactly the flames scared me more. With kipper in net the flames could not show up and still some how have a chance to win (at home that is ). thats what scared me. Right now it feels like Hasek game has stepped up a notch for the playoffs, almost looking like his old self (I said almost). It will be a hard series, but no reason to be scared. Let's just hope Wilson doesn't tinker with the lines too much like he did at times during the season. Nabokov vs. Toskala this season is not even close. Nabokov had no offensive support until the last 2 or 3 months of the season and almost single-handedly kept them in games. Dare I say...almost Kipper-like? READ TOO MUCH INTO THAT GAME.The one game they won at the Joe I remember the Wings had a 2-1 lead with like 2 minutes left and the Wings decided to get lazy and that's what cost them the game.Nabakov is ABSOLUTELY no Kipper,and this Wings team is way different this time around.We are NOT Nashville!!! Nashville was bugged with injuries and suspensions during the series vs. the Sharks.The Wings are pretty much healthy and Hasek is the MAN right now.I am not predicting a win or loss in this series but it would be nice to get some payback for 94! Sharks in 6. why is it that everyone who is not a wings fan has to come here and say stuff like you get to play columbus, chicago , and st. louis ???? i just wish for once that they would look at the wings record this year against those teams before they spout off.................... not too much of winning record vs columbus and st louis ....... But he's never thrown more than 1 touchdown against them (unless you count his 2 TD passes to the Packers' DBs in the last game of the year ) and he's only thrown for 200 yards one time. Must be nice having that defense to cover up for him. You can't tell me that as a Bears fan, you're happy he's your QB. Because I'm happy he's your QB! To tie this back to hockey: Why is Hudler's nickname "Rex"? I totally missed that one, and I can't figure it out for the life of me. BTW, good list of stuff. I'm really enjoying this thread. A month or so before the regular season ended one of the articles on NHL.com was talking about Huds and they called him Rex Hudler, instead of Jiri Hudler. According to TSn, he only missed 4 games due to his groin and those were in December and January and 5 games in March due to an abdominal injury. Yeah he wasn't on top of his game last season but after Toskala put together the run he had it'd be silly to pull him for more than a breather down the stretch.
