id like to think quincey has played well enough to get himself a fulltime role with the wings next year , whether its as the 7th defencmen and he plays something like 40-50 games i dont know but i think regardless he should be a full wing next season , what are your thoughts ?? what do we do with derek meech ?? does he become trade bait at next year's deadline ?? do we keep lilja now do to the way hes playing ?? he's been playing good but what if it doesnt last ?? lol

next years team can look like ....

lidstrom markov

kronwall lilja

lebda chelios

quincey

i dont know about you guys but im not to crazy about that lineup, and as much as i like chelios the longer he plays the longer the progress will be delayed for bringing up the young kids like meech, ericsson, kindl

this is how id like to see our defence look like in 2 yrs

lidstrom markov

kronwall kindl

lebda quincey

ericsson

I'd like to see Quincey getting a shot at the big club next season, but I think that it's more likely that Kindl will be there instead. I can't wait to see Ericsson get his chance too. All in all the Wings future in Defence is looking good. :)

id like to see kindl next year as well but unless he's in the top 4 then theres no point bringing him in as the 7th defencemen id rather we just let him get loads of ice time in grand rapids , quincey is a bit older and hes getting some taste of the playoffs and i can see him more as the 7th d man and playing 40 to 50 games due to injuries on the team and chelios who should play like 55 games .....what do we do with derek meech??

well we got cap issues to deal with due to raises like datsyuk got , and hudler will likely get one as well , cleary will get one to next season ......i personally dont want him back , we dont need 3 defensemen in the back end who are close to or over 40 , lidstrom and chelios is enough for me , im sure alot of ppl wont agree with me but thats my opinion , we need to get younger and bigger, and physical , we dont need more offensive defensemen , we got lidstrom lebda and kronwall ( yes he struggled but he did put up points on the ppl when schneider was gone , and i believe in him, he needs a bigger role next season)

I'd like to see schneids come back next season , but at some point the Wings have to look to the future of the team and give youth a chance. You never know we might have a future hall of fame defender in the farm but they're not going to progress without stepping up to the Wings.

Quincey is no replacement for Schneider. If we lose Schneider, then we only have one offensive defenseman, and the PP would suffer greatly.

Unless Markov isn't resigned, and someone is moved, Quincey won't get a spot next year because there are too many defenesman on the Wings. If everyone is healthy, the Wings have 8 defenseman, and there is not much room for Quincey in that mix.

Lidstrom Schneider Markov Lebda Kronwall Quincy Lilja Chelios

I say trade Lilja. Hes playing great this post season which might boost his asking price, and I don't think this charade will last

Trade him for what? He has been playing good, but he's not going to garner much. Maybe for a defenseman of his own caliber. Jason Woolley perhaps? :P

By the way, Chelios would not tolerate being a spare defenseman, which is how you have him lined up on your depth chart there. He's still a great player anyways.

what are you talking about having one offensive defencemen ?? we'll have lebda , lidstrom and kronwall ....yes kronwall struggled but when schneider was out and he got more ice time and more powerplays he produced , we gotta step up and give kronwall some confidence and more ice time ...... if we sign schneider it will at least be a 2 yr deal , at that point hes gonna be like 38 lidstrom will be 38 .....chelios 47 .......maltby 36 draper 37 ....holmstrom 36 ............then we really will be the OLD wings , and trust me it wont be a pretty picture

We should go after Sarich.

if we go after 1 defensemen thats who id want , we got enough offensive puck moving defencemen , we need one that can dish out some hits and be physical in the back

He does not even have an asking price. Nobody would want Lilja on his own, hell teams would run away from a package that included Lilja. Give your head a shake, we cant get anything for Lilja.

I know , his grand total of 1 goal(s) was a great contribution to our PP.

lol well obviously holland and yzerman believe in him or they wouldnt of given him a 5 yr deal , and i believe in him as well hes got too much potential to give up on so quickly , quit being so negative

You humor me. Since when are Kronwall and Lebda offensive defenseman? They have a grand total of 6 goals combined between the two of them, and not a single one of those was on the PP.

We should go after Sarich.

Definitly. Tampa will be strained to try and keep him because of the Cap and a decreased payroll by ownership, so there is a good possibility the Wings could land him.

Not giving up on him. Just saying he isnt a powerplay D-man right now

well its good to see i humor you , i feel the same about your too;) lol ..........is everything just about stats with you ??? your gonna tell me lebda isnt an offensive defencemen ?? your gonna tell me he's more of a defensive d man ? it's hard to put up points when your the 3rd pairing and getting less ice time and almost no powerplay time , lebda is responsible at his own end , but make no mistake he's an offensive defensemen, give him ice time and ppl opportunities and youll see points, same as kronwall , injuries have stalled kronwall's career but like lebda he's got loads of offensive abilities in him and given time and ppl's he'll put up points as well

Not giving up on him. Just saying he isnt a powerplay D-man right now

only way he's gonna be one is if we give him powerplay minutes , he's 26 what do you wanna do sign schneider for another 2-3 yrs and then make kronwall start playin on the ppl when he's 30 ??? Anyways its ok i can understand why some of you would want schneider back , as long as holland and yzerman dont sign him back thats all that matters lol

Yes it is all about stats with me. It's hard for me to sit here and call those two offensive defenseman when they have only 6 goals respectivily between the two of them.

Your replacement plan is poorly thought of. Getting rid of Schneider does nothing to help, at all. I can already tell you Kronwall will get hurt again next year, just like every year, and Lebda is not an offensive defenseman. So who is it exactly that will be replacing Schneider?

By the way, Kronwall, when healthy this year, didn't do dick on the PP. When Schneider was hurt, Kronwall was given plenty of chances on the PP, and do anything with it. His one goal this year, against the New York Islanders, deflected off an Islanders player in front of the net. That's about it. Tell me, what else is it that he did that makes you speak so highly of him? His AHL numbers? Well guess what, Darryl Bootland scored 27 goals in the AHL and I don't see you begging to have him called up.

I remember Mick and Ken talking about how they were speaking with Kenny Holland, and Kenny said that both Quincey and Kindl will get a chance to step in and play regularly next season. I'm not sure if that means Matty is gone or not, but I think he will ask for more than the Wings are willing to pay.

kronwall will get hurt again ?? LOL so according to you he will get hurt every season for the next 5 seasons right ?? so holland just made the worst signing ever , your all about stats lmao.....yes kronwall only got one goal but if you saw the games you'd know he had TONS of chances but the puck just wasn't going in for him ,its not that he didnt play well , the bounces will come his way ....and brett lebda isnt an offensive defencemen ?? then what is he ?? a defensive defensemen ?? lol , once again man stop looking at stats , he plays in the 3rd pairing , doesnt get ppl chances and plays with chelios in the point of course he wont rack in tons of points, if he played in the top 4 pairings and got ppl time he'd get points

sorry but your theory about the ahl is stupid ......just cause a player has a good year there and comes to the nhl doesn't mean he will be abust ,besides this past season kronwall only had 47 nhl games , give the guy a break , he won the ahl's best defencemen award ( according to you it doesnt count but id beg to differ) and he also won the mvp at the olympics and if you tell me its a worthless award then no offense but your a bigger idiot , there were tons of nhl stars at that tournament , kronwall has all the tools to be a big player , if he didnt we wouldnt of resigned him for 5 yrs at 3 million per .......stop being so negative

this is what the next year looks like, chelios isn't signed but holland said he will be back. one or 2 open spots on the blueline which Quincey could take, however he will have strong compition with kindl if there's only one open spot because lilja might have earned back his spot as a starter after these playoffs and the team seems to want to keep Markov, therefore one can gather that he might not have a spot to take

hell, they could even endup keeping SCHNEIDER

I say Quincey and Chelios should split the 7th spot. Although, Chelios may want to remain a regular. Either way, both are capable full-time defenseman. And for what Lilja has shown in these playoffs, we may have 3 5th Dmen.
