Post-GAME 4 (5/17): Ducks 5, Red Wings 3

obviously none of us can predict the future but this team is capable of losing game 5 and winning two in a row to win in 7.

these games are played one at a time and it's always interesting to me how many people count the wings out even when they haven't reached a do/die game just yet. i'm not predicting them to lose game 5 but even if they ended up falling short, this year is not over until the handshakes at center ice. some of you just need to have faith, IMO.

they have just as good of a chance as the ducks to pull out a victory on their home ice.

should they outplay the ducks in game 5, the game in anaheim (6) will obviously be the most

intense of this series to date.

i'm looking forward to some good hockey... hopefully CLEAN hockey, where two teams battle

to muscle failure to prevail against one another.

game on!

Unless I'm missing something, Jiggy is not at all impressive to me, despite his performance last night. It seemed to me that many of our SOGs were weak-- telegraphed waaay in advance, giving him plenty of time to get into position to make the save. Or just simply stand there with his enormous pads and block it.... saw this scenario a few times last night:

RW: Jiggy, you ready? I'm gonna slam one here any sec...

Jiggy: Hang on a minute.... yaa, I think I'm all set now...

RW: You sure?

Jiggy: Yaa, go for it!

RW fires one squarely into Jiggy's pads and the (by now) hovering Duck scoops it away. Wasted effort, another missed opportunity.

Get Giguere moving side to side and the net may as well be empty. Like I said, I may be missing something special about his play, because he surely DID stop a lotta puck last night, but he is eminently beatable. After all, he's given us one 5-goal game already.

LOL

Haseks quote is classic.

Got damn.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT Damn.

so did you hate Dom in game three when he shut the Ducks out at home??

I don't expect you to be that smart of a guy considering you have Bill Clement for a avatar but come on man. It was only one game. The Dominator will bounce back just watch.

I thought it was a very good game even thought we came out on the short end of the stick, I can't blame and individual on our team as they all played good and they all made mistakes that the ducks capitalized on. There PP was bound to click sooner or later, Last night we just could not convert on the PP and Giggy stood on his head for the most parts. The Ducks played well, and came out on top. Big Deal 2-2 can't wait till sunday. I hope I get to watch the game, I have to roof a friends house starting tonight, I'm gonna bust some serious ass just so I can watch, Otherwise I will be dragging a TV to the rooftop LOL

First of all, I don't even HAVE a panic button. :P

Second, the Ducks haven't even looked good for the most part. Yesterday was their best game so far and they almost lost it. We've blown them out...they've never just blown us out.

so did you hate Dom in game three when he shut the Ducks out at home??

Dom didn't play good last night...has nothing to do really with whether he played good last game, or will play good next game. Dom should take his lumps like every other player who didn't play well. I am not in the Dom love fest here, but I have been giving him credit as he's been fantastic. When he's not, he and everyone, should expect critisism. On the flip side...no one should fly off the handle over one or 2 bad games. But people do because that's all it takes to lose a series.

GO WINGS! GO DOM!

Over the regular season didn't care so much because we were guaranteed a playoff birth the second the puck dropped on game 1 of the season. In the playoffs when it is Best of 7.... now best of 3... all games are magnified to the nth degree. An exceptional SO performance when the team scored 5 can be destroyed by a string of not so stellar losing performances and "bad" bounces... Luckily this was only the 2nd this round.

We have been in this situation each of the last two series. I more than welcome the Mighty Phucks to play catchup with us the entire round.... it works better for us!

No, Dom did not play one of his better games last night, but I really have to hand it to Anaheim. They stepped up and got the job done.

And I don't know her name, but that blonde woman in leather (!) doing interviews, will somebody please fire her? "What kind of relief do you feel doing what you needed to do?" WTF? You answered your own GD question! Why don't they ask semi-intelligent questions, maybe something along the lines of "What did you do to adjust around Pronger's minutes?"

Her name is Chris.... she loves the Mighty Phucks along with the rest of OLN.... its silly how much she loves them.

Tough to see them drop this one. Dan Cleary is my f***in' hero and he heaved the guys on his back last night but couldn't quite get over the finish line. Thems the breaks.

I don't wanna say I had a bad feeling after the Wings dropped that 5-on-3 to kick start the third (did they even get one scoring chance?), but I definitely had a not good feeling and unfortunately it came to fruition.

Hank and Pavel's lack of road production is, as ever, concerning, but what can you do? Win the games at home, I guess.

I'm not worried about Hasek or anyone else for Game 5. We were tied up against Calgary and San Jose, now we're tied up against Anaheim. Let's have recent history repeat itself here and get the edge in this series.

I know this is going to sound very tree-huggerish but I have really enjoyed the last 2 games. That's the kind of hockey this conference final was supposed to be like. End to end action with great hits, saves, defensive plays and goals.

Love him or hate him, Ryan Getzlaf has been a treat to watch. That PP goal he scored in the 3rd was awesome. Not too many guys are going to score that goal.

And boy has Filpulla really impressed me. It seems that ever since Babs gave him more icetime and top 2 line linemates he's really come on. How many times have we seen him undress Neidermayer? That's a rookie doing that to a first ballet HOF dman. Wow. I think we need to consider putting him out there on a 5-on-3 instead of Lang.

Can't wait for game 5. The Wings are a veteran club and they won't look at this game as a 'blown opportunity'. They'll strap on the boots on Sunday and pound out a win.

I agree, Getzlaf's been great, and his shot looked really cool - crisp wrister that picked the corner perfectly - but honestly he was just flinging it at the net. He's made better plays in this series alone.

As long as we never lose at home (already did, but we got it back with a steal on the road) and Buffalo ends tonight... We will win the cup.... cake walk style :)

Why can't Pavel Datsyuk score on the road?

Why can't Henrik Zetterberg score on the road?

Honestly, I thought they were supposed to be our best players. They need to suck it up and play hard in Game Six.

As for Hasek, I've never liked him, but he gets the job done more often than not (even if he scares the hell out of you ever few seconds), and he's pretty much all we've got, so we've got to support him. It's too late for Ozzie now.

I really don't see why it is too late for Ozzie... with the best of 3 series kicking off tomorrow afternoon. However, this is Doms series to win or lose... might as well keep with him to whatever end that brings.

Best 2 of 3 are always better... because they always end in home teams favor!

Go Wings!

for anyone who's bailing on Hasek because of one less than perfect outing:

try not to ignore the facts about Hasek

QUOTED ^

If it's true that goalies have to have bad memories, to forget goals and losses, and even wins, as soon as they are over, then Hasek might be the best, because a lot of murky water has passed under his bridge, and his disposition is better than it's ever been.

"I have lots of confidence even if I give up five goals, you know," he said. "I know how to handle the pressure, I know what to do after a bad game, what to do after a good game. So I don't really care about the game before."

He will be just fine. Dom's seen this all before, and worse, and come through it. He will again. The rest of the Wings will do the same.

Is it me or is CBC biased against the wings. They are ALWAYS talking about the ducks. The ducks this the ducks that. I don't think they interviewed one wing last night. Cept for Steveie in the inter mission. GRRR that REALLY pisses me off when announcers are for one team only.

I didn't think of this until later on -- so I'd have to watch a replay of the goal to be sure -- but I found it hard to believe that a Wings' PKer couldn't get down to block that shot considering Getzlaf looked down and had to settle the puck momentarily before snapping it on net.

Could be wrong, however. That was the gut feeling this AM after waking up.

You would too if you were as Leaf-centric as the CBC crew is. Look at the Ottawa-Buffalo series. Harry Neale and Bob Cole can't say enough about the Sabres and you can almost see them cringe when they're forced to say something half complimentary of the Sens. And even when they do, it's always an offhanded remark. Instead of saying "Great save Emery" they'll say "Emery makes a stop - one that he should have had".

As Leaf homers you have to root against any team that is an enemy of Leaf Nation. The Wings and Sens are at the top of that list.

Regarding Hasek, I have no problems with him at all. Like a previous poster pointed out, the dude brings his AAA game after a bad one.

And look at the positives here; we've put up 3+ against Giggy's pads in 3 of the 4 games. We've proven we can light the lamp. I don't see us losing 2 of the next 3 with how our offense, defense and Hasek have been playing. We're only getting stronger.

Kinda looked like he changed the angle of the shot at the last second before letting it go. That's why he got it past the Wing defender. He faked like he was going to shoot, then pulled it closer to the inside of him and let the wrister go. Either way, I still think the Wing could've gotten a stick on it though.

Oh well...

I'd have to watch the replay again, but from the initial view and replay I thought Getzlaf did a small toe-drag to avoid hitting the defenders legs/stick before shooting. It certianly looked like he knew what he was doing and he does have an incredibly hard and accurate shot. I'm not taking any credit away from him. He's been great in this series.
