N4C3R 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 To me there is no controversy: Hudler doesn't belong on the ice right now. It's not just his size, it's how he reacts after getting hit hard. Jiri seems to lose some of his focus and willingness to get his nose dirty after he gets drilled. Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Filppula, Draper: each of these small forwards gets drilled and the mental intensity doesn't waver. The willingness to go first into the corner after a puck doesn't waver. This is the time of year that you need guys on the ice who are going to go out there and win this game for you after having their head taken off. Hudler hasn't convinced Babcock (or yours truly) that he's in that category. Until he does he'll likely continue his role as spectator. -Pete
e_mcgrath88 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 I agree 100% trade him while you still can...
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 Trade him? Ha! Huds is one, skilled, dominant player. Look at what he does with the very little ice time he gets. The guy is talented as heck. The little guy is fiesty as heck too, especially for people ragging him for being so small. He gets into the corners, mucks it up, and even throws his body around from time to time. Hell, I even remember seeing him stick up for Drapes one time. He doesn't get pushed around like many people seem to think. Their is no doubt in my mind that he's going to be absolutely huge for the Wings now, and in the future. Trading him away would be completely foolish. dicksmack 33 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 Kopecky can hit, Hudler can score take your pick ...
OsGOD 3 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 (edited) Right now goal scoring is our issue... We can hit and really the Mighty Phucks haven't looked all the physical out there (compared to the flames or sharks). Losing 7 games with a collective team GAA of 1.67 is something that should bring up HUGE red flags. I would focus on scoring first this round and hitting 2nd. Kopa can hit, but with his limited time... has he hit? I know huddles can make the most out of his insanely low minutes. Edited May 22, 2007 by OsGOD
Guest CarboneCZ Report post Posted May 22, 2007 He was considered to be the most talented czech player when he came to the nhl.
FinWing 26 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 I'm dying for Huds to get some PP time. That's where he can use his best tools. We need to take advantage of our chances, even more so today.
Zata fan 40 6 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 Kid can play and he isn't afraid to get his nose dirty...he just needs a bit more experience and ice time. Big mistake if he was dealt.
Pucker 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 Personally, I never have been impressed by Hudler. Yea, he can diddle with the puck a little. But he is small and slow. Ofcourse, there have been small and slow skaters, but they had exceptional tallent. Sofar, I seen nothing that interests me in Hudler. And it is true, he tucks tail when he gets hit. IMO, he is not NHL material. Maybe if he grew 6" and 100 pounds.

N4C3R 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic...PDATE/705220463 Per Coach Babcock, Jiri Hudler will play tonight if Todd Bertuzzi is unable to go.

Hudler is willing to go nose to nose (or sternum) with anyone. He's mucked it up with Brad Winchester, Pavel Kubina, etc... All are considerably bigger than he is. IMO the one thing, beyond his elite skill level, that will help him overcome his stature and skating is his tenacity. Hudler is fearless.

No, I've never seen him throw earth-shattering hits, but as long as he can take the hits, and keep playing who cares. I've never seen him have a 'problem' with a hit, other than being pissed off like most players. He can bury the puck, though, which is one of his biggest assets. He was a good player for the games he was in these p/o's.
N4C3R 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 Maybe you guys have seen something that I have not, and this is no time to hold on to pride. If I am wrong about Hudler, tonight is the time to find out. -P
