puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted May 23, 2007 (edited) I'd take him back, but everyone's assuming he's going to play for peanuts again next season. You have to remember that he was getting no interest from anyone thanks to the s*** he pulled in Ottawa and previously in Detroit. This year, he's fresh of a healthy season and a trip to the Conference Finals. He's going to get much more interest on the open market. That makes everything tricky. He's a much, much bigger gamble if he's looking to sign for market-price. Let's not forget about his wonky groin. It's great that he had no problems this season but it's still risky. Wow. You got every single media-driven slam possible against Hasek in one post, somehow. Good job!! Who knows what will happen, but I doubt that Dom will agree to play for any other team in the NHL aside from Detroit. He loves the Wings, and God knows, they should love him. I doubt very seriously that any player in the room considers the situation with Dom's injuries to be his fault -- since at any moment, it could just as easily be them in the same situation. Hank is a great example - I don't hear anyone blaming him for not being the scoring machine we know he should be. That's why we lost, by the way... no offense when it was needed. Every player on the ice is a risk. Dom had a great season, injury free, because he worked at it, dedicated himself, and went to extraordinary lengths to make sure he could be there 100% for his team. A little credit for all the sacrifice would be appropriate. I bet he will come back, but if he doesn't I wouldn't blame him. gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted May 23, 2007 Oh yeah, I'm with those calling out the fans and their desire for young guys to step in...these unsung heroes...maybe one day...but I called Legace all along...I was one of the only guys saying that he doesn't have what it takes to make it happen when it counts all the way through and the fans wore their rosy glasses and got it wrong. I don't fault Babcock with much, but I do fault him with that...I understand it to a certain extent, but Legace is a joke of a starter...plain and simple. Rinse and repeat with a rookie first few go arounds...that's just life though I guess...
Man Behind #91 1 Report post Posted May 23, 2007 take your head out of your ass. he played out of his mind. he can't control rebounds? oh f*** off, yes he can. i don't know wha tyou were watching but most rebounds he gave up, were standard saves any goalie would give up a rebound on. hasek is the last wing we should blame Your a freakin idiot, didn't you see how he was flopping around outthere in the 1st, 2nd, and wait, the 3rd period. He is not the same anymore and he needs to go. And please, you cussing and talking like an idiot makes you so smart, why don't you go f*** off 12 year old. Guest Crymson Report post Posted May 23, 2007 If he comes back for the same price, its just another no-risk signing. I'd go for it..... He is very competitive and in great shape.... I just don't like the idea of possibly having my favourite and in my opinion the greatest goalie of all time possibly retire in an ugly way like Detroit no longer plays him because he is no longer effective..... At the start of the season, every analyst said that our fortunes rode on Hasek's fragile groin. Well, he and his groin got us as far in the playoffs as we've been in 5 years. You're a champ, Dom. <

Dom's competitve, and if he feels healthy, he is willing to play. Give him some $$ that don't insult his ego, and he's back in red. And that would make me happy. Playoff experience is vital. But his playoff perf this year MAY have raised his price: added to that, he's one of the very few players (these days, thankyouverymuchNOT, BettMan) recognizable hockey names (f***youverymuchNOT for that, BettMunch). Izzy24 44 Report post Posted May 23, 2007 Come back Dom!!! They only reason everyone loves Howard is because he hasn't had the chance to prove to he sucks yet. I also don't understand all the criticism of his "flopping" style of play. It's not as though he was a textbook butterfly goalie that won 6 (is it 6?) Vezinas, an Olympic gold, and a Stanley Cup (with which team?) and then all of sudden in this year's playoffs decided to play the style he does. He's always done it that way, and with spectacular results.

I'll agree, I thought he played a sloppy game tonight, as did the rest of the team though for the most part. I thought the goal in the 3rd period was inexcusable on so many levels. I freak out whenever he leaves the net and wish he never tried to stickhandle the puck...I hated the flop more than ever tonight...and frankly, I don't like Hasek much at all as a person. I think he's a ****** bag. But I'll be damned if he wasn't absolutely pivotal to our success this year and in these playoffs...overall, he played outstanding against all odds...you can be immature and pissy and point fingers all you want, but he saved our asses time and time again down the stretch. He picked a horrible game to play a bit sloppy, but the rest of the team didn't help much before the 3rd either...
Matt 1,049 Report post Posted May 23, 2007 FWIW, he'll either re-sign or retire. I don't see him shopping himself on the open market at all. I'm sure there's some form of standing offer from the front office to return next season with a one-year deal and Holland & Co. will give him time to figure out what he wants to do. Technically, the Wings don't need to get an answer until June 30th, anyway. Gut feeling here is that he'll be back.
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted May 23, 2007 dom gave us a chance to win. we failed him. that sums up the topic. dom made great saves and the ones who were sloppy were the 3-4 guys who stood around our net watching the multiple rebound shots they took on him. that's what I saw, too. He gave them every chance tonight, making a dozen saves in each of the first and second periods, when the Wings were the ones playing sloppy. He just couldn't win it for them, and that's a shame. Offsides 21 Report post Posted May 23, 2007 (edited) I don't get the big deal about playing our youthful goaltender. If we never end up using him, but we still have a blockbuster team every year, what do we lose? Why build for the future, when the future with all newbies is kind of sad. Just tweak a little every year...bring up a couple of youngins and keep a great team. Edited May 23, 2007 by Offsides
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted May 23, 2007 The only deeply disappointing goal Hasek gave up was that one in the third...it's just one of those goals...when you're down and you're rallying, you absolutely don't give up a goal nomatter what...I don't think he made a smart play there and they scored? Other people at fault too? Absolutely. But man, that 4th goal was huge...just a backbreaker...of all the goalies in the world, I would've thought Dom would be the one to not let that goal in nomatter what it took...as a testament to him though, next year, I still believe that he's the one goalie in the world who would absolutely not let that goal in... Rice 42 Report post Posted May 23, 2007 (edited) Wow. You got every single media-driven slam possible against Hasek in one post, somehow. Good job!! What are you talking about? You take everything about Hasek so personally. Hasek was great this season and he does wonders for the team with his confidence. That doesn't change what I said in my last post, though. Unless you know for a fact that he's willing to come back for a similar price, my post is very valid. Ask anyone who doesn't have the Hasek-goggles on. regwinguofmfan 0 Report post Posted May 23, 2007 Lets see......... If he would just stand the F up instead of flopping all over, at least two goals tonight wouldnt have gone in. Puckloo, maybe he will show up next game. He does best after his worst games. Oh wait.......... Puck, you have to understand, he played like ASSSSSS in this series. Deal with it. scotvm 0 Report post Posted May 23, 2007 i dont think theres been a more pleasant surprise in all of sports this year. Hasek has been wonderful. if he wants to come back i say let him. i think it was a 3-way tie for wings playoff MVP between Hasek, Cleary, and Lidstrom.....and that says a lot it think. youre on drugs if you think Hasek was in any way shape or form, responsible for our playoff exit. if hasek comes back and we make a few minor changes next year, i think we are one of about 3-4 teams who would be cup favorites. if he doesnt come back, then i think we drop off a whole lot. there arent a whole lot of FA goalies to sign and while id like to see howard play, i think he would essentially waste all of our strengths (not his fault, but you just cant mix a goalie on a learning curve with a team thats poised for the cup)

Cmon pull your biased heads out of your asses. How about looking at the huge saves he made in addition? News-flash, big guy: goalies don't always look like world-beaters when they're getting scored on. Selanne scored 48 goals this season. I'm sure the goalie looked great on every one of them.
