Pronger at it again: elbow to McAmmond's head

Look where Pronger's elbow is at in relation to his shoulder on that 4th pic, its down! If McAmmond is taller, its a clean hit! Law of physics ladies and gents! :)

Lou I know you like the physical game, I do too, but that still doesn't make it right. While I haven't see him on a regular basis so I could be inaccurate, I don't read about Chara, who is 6'9" and it taller than everybody in the league, just deck people up high like the nature of what Pronger did last night and to Holmstrom.

Chara has actually had quite a few instances of it this past season, but no ones makes anything of it because its Chara. Really in those pics, his elbow doesn't extended that far out. While it was a bad hit, I don't think he should be put to crucified for it.

So you're saying Chara is the golden boy here, and not poor little Chrissy?? Please. Duckette, you're a sweetie and we like you, but come on, now. ;)

It was a terrible hit, and Pronger should be held accountable. EOS.

I'm not sure what you mean by golden boy and I'm not excusing Pronger for what he did, it's just that by looking at the picture, it's not as bad as I thought it was when I first saw it. I don't approve of it, I just don't think he should be hung for it. Suspended, sure. If you can give Bert a second chance, why don't you give Pronger one? ;):P

While while my post was intended to be semi-sarcastic, i think my point about where his elbow is actually at does give Pronger's law of physics rationale a little bit of credence doesnt it? Penalty? Yes. Suspension in the Stanley Cup finals, where a one gamer carries the same value as a probably a 12 -15 game suspension in the regular season? No.

Because he's not a Red Wing. Pronger gets chances and he always does the same thing. This dates back to St. Louis stuff, though. When Pronger was on St. Louis, those who watched back then, hated him then, too.

I know what you mean about the fact that Pronger is bigger , but he still raised his elbow to such a level that it was gonna connect with McAmmond's face.

If this were a regular season incident, how many games would you give him?

You see, that's exactly why Pronger has been so successful at pulling off his dirty play (and I've been watching him most of his career)-- it's precisely BECAUSE he can produce the same effect (ie, smash a player to the ice) without a blatantly obvoius move on his part. Ask McAmmond if it hurt less then if Pronger had extended his elbow in a more obvious manner! Clever camouflage is part of Pronger's, dare I say, genius in what he does. He's honed it to a fine art over the years. He was dirty even for the Old NHL, but the New NHL rules and expectations throw his practices into sharp relief, open him. his team, and the officiating that still give him free passes to criticism, and leave him vulnerable to NHL discipline.

Certainly it can be argued that it was inadvertent, and *shrug* who knows, maybe it was. But that doesn't matter, an elbow is an elbow is an elbow, it's a penalty, and if an elbow hit results in head injury, it's punishable further. The rule against elbowing holds no clauses such as:"Except in the case of one player being taller and another player being shorter, then all is forgiven," or "Except in the case of the larger player accidentally elbowing a shorter player," (of course, a ruling of accidental contact, while not negating a penalty, would go far in mitigating a case for intent to injure.)

At least that's the way I'm interpreting the rules. Please correct me if I'm missing something!

Pronger has done this kind of thing so many times for so long, that if you think at this point that he's not TRYING to do it...you must either not be watching, or be kind of naive.

The NHL knows...they are just in love with Pronger. Frankly, I'm still surprised he got a game on that Holmstrom hit.

Pronger didn't have him lined up to make contact, so he threw his elbow out to try and catch a piece of him.

Sure if the guy was taller, Pronger might have gotten him in the body. But you have to be responsible for the elbows you throw. He stuck his out and caught a player in the head.

That's gotta be another game suspension, at least.

I'm sure there is a perfectly good explanation for what happened. Let's just wait for Professor Pronger of physics to deliver his next enlightening lecture.

I'm sure somehow it's Rob Neidermayer's fault. ;)

I know Pronger isn't a popular fellow on this board, but do you really want guys suspended for fringe hits like that? If so, then I'd suggest taking a long look at the Kronwall hit we all loved earlier in the year. I'm pretty sure that was a hit to the head, and he definitely left his feet.

If this were any other player, then nobody would be talking suspension. Like I said before, it should have been a penalty, but in no way does it warrant a suspension.

I don't want the NHL to become like the NBA where guys are now suspended if they breathe on one another. It's ridiculous and has destroyed what little integrity the NBA once had.

Oh s***... Pronger didn't mean to do that at all.... Come on wings fans shut the hell up already!

Glad to see there was no call... there was no reason Mchammond should have kept his head up... dumb ass!

Pronger is GOD!

Look, don't kill me! I got about 2 hours of sleep last night and had to be up at 5:30 AM for my own hockey game this morning. I'm dead tired and I'm trying to make sense out of all of this. I'm only 16 and didn't see my first game until I was 12, so my knowledge of Pronger has pretty much no basis besides being here, so I don't know the extent of his bad reputation. My apologies.

In general I agree that they've gotta keep hitting in the game. But there have been a ridiculous number of shots to the head this season.

They need to crack down on all contact to player's heads, and not just because it was Pronger who was the culprit.

I think by this time he's simply doing what comes naturally-- no wonder he's claiming amnesia-- stuff like that is so much a part of his style of play, and he gets away with it so routinely, that the big TRex probably truly DOESN'T remember.

I was shocked he got a game offa the Homer Hit too, but I'll frankly be flabbergasted if anything comes of this latest infraction. The only thing working against him is that there was no initial pen called on the ice.

(I need to get offa this thread, posting too much, sorry)

Pronger please DON'T use your teeth this time when you are on your knees in the office.

I can't afford to see you suspending for something as silly as that hit! You are a hockey God to me! Please refrain from using teeth while on your knees in Colins office!

That's not what I meant when I said that. I meant on his knees praying to God, thanking him for not getting a suspension. But, w/e.

^^ But this is EXACTLY what I meant!

The dude is not getting another suspension... he was already "punished" last round.

In case anyone's interested...

IMO, hopefully this is just step #1. It's pretty clear to just about everyone that Pronger believes he's untouchable. Frankly, that attitude scares me.

"I was just stepping up and finishing my check and I don't really know what happened after that," Pronger said.

Translation: "I'm not going to incriminate myself."

Isn't that the same BS he said after the Homer hit? BTW Chris, claiming to not remember what happened doesn't get you off the hook.

Oh, and I love this "he's too tall" stuff that surfaces every time he pulls this crap. Like after umpteen years of being in the league, he suddenly (under certain circumstances) loses the ability to control whether or not his elbow is driven into someone's head. Suspend his ass.

f*** Pronger yet again,

esteef
