Ozzie30 170 Report post Posted July 1, 2007 when did we sign schneider? im having a brain fart We traded Avery, Kuznetsov (sp?) and picks to LA in 2003 at the deadline for him and he still had another year under contract. We then signed him to a two year contract once that expired.
Matt 1,049 Report post Posted July 1, 2007 Would've preferred to have Schneider back, but not at that price tag. Thanks for the four years and good luck in Anaheim. (But not too much luck.)

Ozzie30 170 Report post Posted July 1, 2007 As it stands right now, the Ducks defense is already set with Niedermayer (IF he doesnt retire, which i think he is now), Pronger, Beauchemin, Schneider, O'donnell, and Huskins. The latter two were re-signed last week. So they arent in need of another defenseman as it stands. Didn't know that, I still think Niedemayer is done, but 3 forwards not named selanne for 5 mil is do-able.

maltbyrocks18 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2007 ehh, this sucks i feel he is severely underrated about how much he means to this team. oh well though i dont even blame him. he couldnt get the money here that he could there, and you know the whole saying, if you cant beat em, join em. and that he did. Now at least we know someone new and big is comeing to detroit.
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted July 1, 2007 Right. Within hours of becoming a Free Agent. Ah, the "jilted girlfriends" analogy was very clever, but that's what fans do- they cheer, they boo. I suppose that wings fans should not cheer when their team scores a goal because it would be an over-emotional outburst that is completely unnecessary, right? The boo birds will be flying all-around JLA next season, and I'll be right in formation- you just sit in your chair and be quiet like a good little boy. Not so much clever as true. Yes, that's exactly what I was saying, Wings fans shouldn't cheer when their team scores a goal. As I said, the guy's family is in L.A., he got more money, and he's got a great chance at winning the Cup next season. All pretty damn good reasons for leaving. Heaven forbid anyone dare to leave the classiest, best team in the NHL. It's outright insult to Steve Yzerman, Gordie Howe, all ten Stanley Cups, and hockey in general... Booing pronger because he tried to put his elbow through the back of Holmstrom's head I'm all in favor, but booing someone just because they left the Wings is childish. jilted girlfriend is really the most appropriate analogy I can think of. Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted July 1, 2007 Don't really care. Overpaid him. Nidermayer gone. THis means ANaheim will be weaker than last year. Spend money on some good.

Matt 1,049 Report post Posted July 1, 2007 Refrain from the cursing. The reason there isn't a curse filter is because the memberbase as a whole doesn't repeatedly abuse it. I don't have to want to institute one now.
Statts 4 Report post Posted July 1, 2007 Ummm, because it's a game? Because Schneider probably has other considerations in his life other than upsetting a bunch of fans who act like jilted girlfriends any time a player signs with another team? Mathieu signed for more money than he would've gotten with Detroit on a team with a great chance to win the Stanley Cup. That bastard! What could he possibly have been thinking?! EDIT: And as someone mentioned, his family is in L.A. So let's see, more money, great chance at winning the Cup, close to your family... what a dick. Agreed. Matt will be missed, but I see no reason to hate the guy. He did what’s best for him and that’s how it should be, a fat paycheck and he went to a contender. Some of you sound like a 14 year old that has been dumped.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted July 1, 2007 Didn't know that, I still think Niedemayer is done, but 3 forwards not named selanne for 5 mil is do-able. I think its a strong bet that Bobby Ryan will occupy one of those available spots. With their young stars continuing to develop, especially with Ryan added to the mix, i really dont think they need Selanne if he asks for too much.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted July 1, 2007 Too much money. With the way his body has been running lately, he wont be playing full seasons. Im glad Holland passed on offering up that kind of cash. Im not too sad about this one. Mathieu Schneider never fully fit in here, IMO.
Stevie Y 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2007 Too bad. At the right price we could have used him. But how you can you blame him? More money, family and the cup defender...
datsyukonethree 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2007 What is it that makes our good players leave for Anaheim? Oh well. I liked Schneider too much while he was here, and he left on reasonably good terms, so I can't really be mad. It sucks to see him go to the Ducks, but I'm thankful for what he did while he was here. Most of all, I trust that Holland will ice us another strong team this year. He's got a lot of freedom right now. It will be fun to watch him work.
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted July 1, 2007 Assuming this means Niedermayer is retiring, the Ducks just overpaid for a downgrade in their defense. (Matheiu will make just $1.25 mill less than Niedermayer and $1 mill less than Pronger) And the Wings didn't overpay to keep Schneider here. All in all I'm pretty happy about it. Time for some younger guys to fill the defense corps.
Matt 1,049 Report post Posted July 1, 2007 I wouldn't be surprised to see a move for Rafalski here.

I agree in principle, but there's a mighty drop in talent once you get past Lidstrom (I guess that's true no matter who the no.2 is but you get what I'm saying). I wouldn't be surprised to see a move for Rafalski here. I was thinking the same thing. I don't think Holland wants anything to do with the Souray sweepstakes. Arelius19 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2007 I will miss him… He did alot for us and was underrated in my opinion. I wouldnt have been so devasted if it was some other team. Anyone but the ducks. Alot of you like the deal so we can get young guys, but until we get someone younger……… this sucks

WingNut 25 5 Report post Posted July 1, 2007 Very disappointed to see him go. I spoke to my buddy last night (he used to work in marketing for the Ducks) and he said everyone within the organization says it's a done deal that Selanne and Niedermayer are retiring. moocat 1 Report post Posted July 1, 2007 I'm having mixed feelings about this. I guess ultimately it will depend on who they replace him with.
Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted July 1, 2007 I wouldn't be surprised to see a move for Rafalski here. Rakalski is a good d-man, no doubt about it. But Im definitely hoping we go another route defensively. I know we wont be able to afford Souray. But I would like to see us snag a better d-man than Rafalski.
