Ozzie30 170 Report post Posted July 1, 2007 The real question is, besides nylander, who's leaving the Rangers? Has Lundqvist signed an extension? Do the Rangers have any cap room to match an offer sheet?
LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted July 1, 2007 ...just like the old days. Would you have ever thought that in a salary cap NHL that the Rangers, or anyone for that matter, can have a team UNDER the salary cap with the likes of Jagr, Drury, Gomez, Shanahan, etc... ...I guess league parity is nothing but a sad parting goodbye, it's back to the Rags signing all the top UFA's, let's hope it's the same result as the 90's early 00's (minus 94 of course.) Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted July 1, 2007 WOW! I Just get done posting about how good of a signing the Rangers made with Gomez. Now I see this??? Wow. I cant believe the Rangers have the means to sign both costly centers. Great signings though. The Rangers are gonna look pretty deadly.

Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 The real question is, besides nylander, who's leaving the Rangers? Has Lundqvist signed an extension? Do the Rangers have any cap room to match an offer sheet? I guess the possiblity exists that they plan on cutting Lundqvist loose? I could see them dealing his rights to somewhere like Phoenix, or even allowing someone to sign him so they could get all the picks. That is, if they feel theyre ready to give Montoya a shot. shannyfan1414 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 Sabers gave up two of their top players? Really is this happneing? Very suprised right now, never thought that would happen. I thought for sure they would have kept one of them. Look out for the Rangers.

Jaromir Jagr 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 I don't think there is a chance that the Rangers let Lundy go. He does not want to go anywhere he loves it in NY the Ranges realize he is one of the best in the world he will be a Ranger for a long time. I think Shanny will take the hit like Lidstrom did he wants a cup and he has already made his money I think he will be back. Me thinks Rangers Vs Wings in the cup finals. Hello ratings! Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted July 2, 2007 i can think of one place i'd like him. :octo: I echo that thought. I would welcome him back in a heartbeat. Despite what some people on here have to say. I think Shanny would be great with this squad we have.

Wings_Fan_In_Exile 3 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 I think there is no way Lundqvist is not a Ranger next year. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Rangers make some trades for cap space though. And maybe, just maybe Shanny comes back to Detroit!
Jaromir Jagr 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 It looks like the Rangers are still about 8 million under the cap not including the RFA's so I would think that about 5-6 million goes to Lundqvist next season they will make some trades and hopefully re-sign Avery and Shanny. My guess is Ortmeyer, Isbister, Rachunek and maybe Prucha are done as Rangers.

But obviously they just may not have enough $$.

I guess I'm wondering when he "took one for the team". Wasn't it he who signed the highest possible salary under the rules of the cap?

RedWingsJunkie 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 (edited) This is rather interesting. I can't say I am stunned the Rags threw that kinda money to 2 guys, the Rangers have throw money around for years and have nothing to show for it. I have to agree that the Rangers have a ton of offense, but they have had it before too. The Rangers need to show me something before I will ever believe they have finally put it all together again. Their defense is awful, they have a good goalie and they seem to have fabulous forwards now, but they need massive help on the blueline. It does makes sense to wonder what happens to Shanahan now? Maybe NY has some space left but Shanny had a solid year good enough to get another solid payday. Shanny is going to do 1 of only 3 things. Re-sign with NY, come back to Detroit or retire. I can't see him going anywhere else to finish his career at this point. Edited July 2, 2007 by RedWingsJunkie

To me these signings mean that the rangers think that Marc Staal is ready to be an NHL defensman next season If Staal is ready the blueline will be pretty good with guys like Rozsival playing well and Tyutin, Pock, and Girardi all with some more experience under their belts.
