Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted July 5, 2007 On the one hand, it's puzzling. On the other hand, it's not; Holland himself has said he has no intention of making any more big-money signings this summer. If you're a GM, you generally don't say something like that unless you really mean it. So don't be surprised if it's just Dom and a couple depth guys who might not even make it past training camp. I'm holding out hope for a Master Plan scenario (Penner?), but in all likelihood he's going to bide his time until the trade deadline. He wants to give the young guys more minutes, and the Central is going to be a cake walk. Do the math.

puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted July 5, 2007 Gerber hmmmmmmmm? Not Bad, he played well even though he was sick in the playoffs the prev year -- depends on $ and trade hmmmmm? Ottawa's on the hook for $3.7M for Gerber. He isn't a good goalie, Emery showed him the door early on in the season. They're sending him to the farm team to get him off their salary cap. I am sure Ottawa would get a good laugh out of the Wings going for this deal.
Vancouver Wings Fan 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2007 IMHO allot of the "Buzz" has been the crazy long term contract and large $$$'s flying around. Aside from the "tier 1" type players, (drury, Briere) many players (ie. Bert, Smolinski, Hamerlik, long list.....) have been signed with little regard to cap room and the future health of the teams aquiring them. This has positioned the Wings very well if you consider the group of young talent here and the vailibilty of ample cap room for the trade dealine in 08 and also next summer's "tier 1" UFA's. Danny Heatley comes to mind....
evil204 4 Report post Posted July 5, 2007 I think the money left over after Hasek signs should just be given out to the members of LGW. Maybe then I'll be able to afford a playoff ticket.
Wings_Dynasty 267 Report post Posted July 5, 2007 Remember, not only FAs are in play here. Trades are bound to happen, and Detroit is no different. Don't be surprised if Lilja, Hudler (he was signed and still may be trade bait) and even Kronwall are being shopped for wingers. Kenny and Babs have confidence in the youth program, so trading a depth Dman or a depth forward may not be out of the question to a team with less than stellar play-off hopes to get one of their tops guys. SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted July 5, 2007 (edited) Holland needs to do something QUICK. I mean who do we have for forwards... Zetterberg and datsyuk... as of now we dont have much depth. No, he doesn't need to do something quick if he doesn't want to. I wouldn't sign somebody just for the sake of signing him or because a bunch of forum fans want player X or player Y to be signed. Again, most of the roster you see now almost made it to the SCF, it doesn't need to be overhauled or changed a whole lot. I understand not sitting on your hands, but let's be PATIENT and understand that some of the money offered in initial deals was pretty ridiculous.
