Wings_Dynasty 267 Report post Posted July 8, 2007 Here's the thing. It was okay...but an excellent offseason...yeah right. It is hovering at mediocre. Agreed. We lost a B+ defenseman and signed an A- defenseman. We lost our ENTIRE 2nd line and signed... nobody. We may lose Markov and would have yet another hole to fill. Aside from re-signing Huddles (which probably wouldn't have happened if we got Bert back for a good price; and since we lost him it became necessary) and signing some future lifelong Griffin players, we ain't did nothin'. Still have time before training camp though...

Same goes for Kopecky, I think he is going to have a better season. Franzen seems to be finding his place on the team. All I believe Kenny should get is two gritty players, one on D and one on Offense. We have scoring, thats no question.... WhiteLightning91 105 Report post Posted July 8, 2007 We have scoring, thats no question.... Really? Gone from last year's roster are Lang, Bertuzzi, Schneider, Calder, Markov, and Williams. Thats 52 goals from last year that we do not have this year. Thats brings last years total goals scored to a whopping 200. That ranks us 27th in scoring in the league, right ahead of such powerhouses as Columbus, Chicago, and Edmonton. Bring in Raflaski to the mix and that puts us up to 208. Woo Hoo! We're now 25th in the league! Now, am I glad that those players are gone? For the most part, yes I am. I wish Bertuzzi and Markov would be back, but they want too much money so Kenny made the right decision in letting them go. But to say we have scoring is a load of crap. Yes the young guys will improve from last season, but Kenny still needs to bring in some forwards who can help offset that goal loss from last season to this season. WhiteLightning91 105 Report post Posted July 8, 2007 We lost Todd "Aching Back" Bertuzzi, who was not the factor in the playoffs we were looking for (despite bodyslamming Celine Dion Phaneuf). Wasn't that Dan Cleary?
Feldmarschall 9 Report post Posted July 8, 2007 Cleary nearly took his head off. Bert bodyslammed him. Either way, bad day for Dion. As for the forward thing... Yes, we've lost our whole second line. But it was a garbage second line anyway, because it failed to produce whenever our first line wasn't firing on all cylinders, and that's what a good second line should do. Either way, the money is short and we're faced with one real option; We have potential second-line scorers IN our organization right now, and we have to make sure they score accordingly. Cleary, Franzen, Hudler, and Filppula can and will pick up the slack lost with Lang, and then some. Be cool. Our guys may not have the big sexy names, but they're world-class hockey players and they will do their job.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted July 8, 2007 So far its been alright. I seriously doubt Kennys stupid enough to pick up Yashin , but I have a bad feeling he will. And if that ever happens , it'll turn this off-season into the worst one ever. But , Rafalski signing was good , Dom signinh was good. Theres still a couple scoring forwards (Shanny , Forsberg , Gelinas , Selanne) he could sign. A bit more size/grit wouldnt hurt , but he'll probably wait till the deadline to get it. Is that not what everyone said after we lost Yzerman, Shanahan, and whoever else after the 06 season? The Wings bounced back just like they always do because "no namers" step up and score some goals a la Cleary this past season and Samuelsson 2 years ago. I dont get all you guys comparing with goals made last year? ok so weve lost a few guys, but hey, we still have a really good lineup! When our young guns gets more icetime they'll start to produce more aswell, np. WE've got a really talented bunch of hockeyplayers up front, and if you check player by player im sure our offence are just as good as most other teams. You cant really compare from year to year, things changes.. f.a. with schneids gone, lids is probably going to take more shots from the point -> more goals. Same goes for whoever is replacing williams (samuelsson? )... Guys like filpulla and hudler will get more minutes instead of f.a. bertuzzi.. and so on. I just dont get why people worry so much over this, this is not last season you know..

See, for this comparison of seasons to work, the wings would have to play everyone the exact same minuites as last season. Which would mean, every time our 2nd line would normally be out, we'll just let the other team take shots at Hasek. If we did this, then we would be down those 52 goals. However, simply because our 2nd line from last year is gone, doesn't mean we wont use a 2nd line this yr. Since we will in fact be using a 2nd line, that means certain players will be getting 2nd line type minuites (hudler, flip, cleary, etc...). Inevitably, they will put up 2nd line #s... if Hudler could score 15 goals on junk 4th line playing time, imagine what he could do with 2nd line minuites. Ta ta Lang. Apparently, you missed the part where the Detroit Red Wings were 7 seconds away from taking a 3-2 series lead back to Anaheim without Mathieu Schneider, a broken-wristed Kyle Calder and a Todd Bertuzzi that was sitting on piles of towels his back was in so much pain. But you're right, our team sucks, and we should have kept Lang, who couldn't win a faceoff and (with exception to Game 4 against San Jose) was utterly useless in the playoffs as well as the regular season. Idiot.

Barrie 900 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 Yashin is better than anyone else available. Not that I want to sign him, I'm ok with what we have and adding at the deadline, but if people here are set on bringing in someone else, Yashin is the next best guy. Rice 42 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 Agreed. We lost a B+ defenseman and signed an A- defenseman. We lost our ENTIRE 2nd line and signed... nobody. What, exactly, did our second line contribute in the post-season? A couple flukey goals from Lang? Don't get me wrong, those goals were huge -- but he was a non-factor for the rest of the playoffs. Filppula was better in the playoffs than Lang and even Hudler was pretty good in the Calgary series.
