Guest jaytan Report post Posted July 15, 2007 Not to mention Avery looks up to Yzerman so much, afterall thats why he wears number 19. and with Stevie Y workin the deals we could have a shot.. right? On the other hand, I wonder if Shanny will help convince the Rangers to hold onto him.

chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted July 15, 2007 He was actually playing really well for LA BEFORE he got traded to New York. Its just that New York gets more attention and had more talent, so Avery was able to show his own skills off. Avery was pretty worthless in 05-06, but because he had so many attitude issues and did cause trouble in the lockerrom, but after he was asked to leave the team, he had a sit down with the Kings GM, and he got himself straightened out. Ever since then, hes been more about the on-ice stuff than off the ice stuff. But he still keeps his mouth running, and in most cases, its actually good for the league. According to rumors, New York will probably demote Kaspairitus to the minors. That gets them 2.8M or so, enough to re-sign Avery and Hossa. However, as much as Kasper didnt have a good season last year, hes still a guy with good character, leadership, and experience. Personally, I think its going to have a bigger effect on New Yorks defense than they think, even if they are high on Girardi et al. Sean Avery - good character and leadership. Are you serious? The guy has some talent but ends up in the penalty box way to much and as such puts his team at a disadvantage. good character and leadership? Im in the minority. I dont want Avery back. I'm with you. Sean Avery - good character and leadership. Are you serious? The guy has some talent but ends up in the penalty box way to much and as such puts his team at a disadvantage. good character and leadership? I'm with you. He had 174 PIM last year and 157 in 2002. That's not an improvement. This is why we don't need him back.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted July 15, 2007 (edited) He had 174 PIM last year and 157 in 2002. That's not an improvement. This is why we don't need him back. Lets recheck those stats. In 02-03, he played 51 games and accumulated 153 PIMs. Last season he accumulated 174....in 33 more games! Edited July 15, 2007 by Lou_Siffer
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted July 15, 2007 Avery, a known ******* in the NHL, but people look past how much of a brilliant player he is. He is effective, and knows that being the pest will get players thinking about wanting to kill him as opposed to winning the game. Having him in Detroit would only do better things. Also, year by year, he is coming better offensively.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted July 15, 2007 You and me both. I remember I was in class and my Math teacher was like "Reem, the Wings just traded Avery" and I just stared at him and yelled out WHAT?! in front of the whole class. I didn't even give a crap that they were all looking at me. I was soooooo beyond pissed. Its funny how mad you can get over a trade, im not sure ive ever been as pissed as i was the moment i read it online. I had just woken up too, nice way to start your day off when your favorite player gets the boot! To me, it just signified everything i hated about Holland, he has zero problem letting physical guys go but will hold on for dear life to keep his finesse guys. I also naturally had a vendetta with Schneider from then on! It doesnt count against the cap. Basically the same thing if you keep a guy on long-term IR. I really pisses the f*** out of me that GMs can get away with s*** like that. If you sign a guy, you should have to pay for me if hes healthy enough to play. That does seem really shady.. isbister 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2007 He was great last year in the playoffs and regular season. I think if he controls his cool he's a good fit for any team, unfortunently he's got that hot movie star girlfriend in La and I think he'll end up back in Cali. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted July 15, 2007 He's easily a 2nd liner , but I'd give him a regular shift with Cleary and Maltby. Avery can fight , Maltby can do the agitating and Cleary can score the goals. *drools*

Vincanni 1 Report post Posted July 15, 2007 I support Avery coming back 100%, yeah he's a bit of a D-bag but he's also skilled and isn't nearly as bad as he was a couple years ago. Also didn't he peg Corey "the Fraggle" Perry a few times ina flurry as a King?
