Chris Osgood was an average goalie on a great team, hence he won 2 cups... only 1 as the starter. In my opinion he was the weakest starting goalie to win a cup in the 1990's. In other words, Osgood was carried by his team and not the other way around as his fans would try and lead us to believe.

I agree with all that except to say that Legace was the only reason we lost to Edmonton. I agree that he was the biggest reason, but none of the guys played well that series except Z and would you believe Robert Lang. We were clearly lacking the passion that we showed this year. I think that we were just outplayed by an Oil team that wanted it more.

True, he isn't the only reason, since the Wings lacked grit and passion in that series too. I still firmly believe though, that if Legace wouldn't have crumbled, we still would have beat Edmonton. Half of their goals came on wrap-around shots. What kind of goalie lets that happen to him as many times as Legace did?

Wow. I think Ozzie deserves a bit more credit than you have given him. Average goalies do not win Stanley Cups, regardless of how great the team in front of them is. Average goalies, like Legace, get you knocked out in the first round.

While I agree that Osgood did not carry the team, he was certainly an integral part of the Red Wings success over the past 15 seasons. The only bad thing I will ever use against Ozzie is his knack for giving up bad goals. Check out the record books in Red Wings history, and you'll see Ozzie's name near the top in every category.

Besides, an organization couldn't ask for a better guy than Chris Osgood. His loyalty to the Red Wings and the city of Detroit is second-to-none. Chris Osgood is not an average goalie. Ozzie earned his championship, just as much as Vernon and Hasek did.

Joseph played some hideous playoff hockey for us, for the most part.

Not in 2004.

Nobody is leading people to believe Osgood "carried" the Wings in 1998, but he certainly did his part to help the Wings win the Cup, along with a team that usually didn't have much trouble putting the puck in the net that playoff year.

First of all: There's no such thing as a 'weak' starting goaltender who won the Stanley Cup.

Second: Chris Osgood earned to be on that fine list of goaltenders who won a Stanley Cup.

There's just nod denying that.

btw: Chris won't care. His name is on the Stanley Cup.

To the person who said Pavel didn't show up in the '06 playoffs. Did we forget that he was injured and should not have played at all? Yet he came back, still nursing the charley horse that had to have blood drained off it, and still a little spaced out from pain meds. He shouldn't have tried playing at all, and I give him credit for trying.

I agree with most of what this article says about Dom. He is the best tender the Wings have had in forever. And I sleep much better since he resigned for '08. I would rather not even contemplate who had the worst playoff series with the Wings out of Ossy, Manny, & Cujo. Just happy like hell that the Dominator is back.
