Guest micah Report post Posted September 6, 2007 However in this case it would be the lack of hunger that is driving his retirement decision. Perhaps Mr Niedermayer values being able to run arround and play with his kids so much that he isn't willing to risk his health for a silly game to entertain people anymore. I would hardly call that a lack of hunger - just different priorities. Personally, I think I'd rather play with my kids than play pro hockey. A man's priorities at 35 might not be what they were at 22. That isn't a bad thing.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted September 6, 2007 Is he on his period or something? Why are they doing press conferences just to tell people that he's still undecided? He must have Brett Favre Syndrome. He's had the whole summer to think about it.
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted September 6, 2007 Wonder why Teemu isn't holding a press conference to tell everyone that he doesn't know if he's retiring yet. Oh, that's right. He's not an idiot. Seriously, Scott...s*** or get off the pot. And if you do come back, I hope the Ducks have the good sense to take that 'C' off your jersey.
WhiteLightning91 105 Report post Posted September 6, 2007 With all due respect to what Scott has accomplished in his hockey career, but this is just getting rediculous. I can understand that it is a hard decision to make but its just getting to the point of Neidermeyer making himself look selfish. The ducks really need to know what his situation is. Their team without Scott is a lot different than with Scott. Make a decision already Scott. Stop being so selfish and give the Ducks the respect they deserve by giving them a decision within the next millenium.
OsGOD 3 Report post Posted September 6, 2007 Seriously that is like me holding a press conference at work because I farted in my cube!!! WTF Loudly or silently... I want the "juicy" details

shannyfan1414 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2007 what a load of crap!!!! Just make up your mind already and let the team know that you are affraid tha Detroit is going to kick you butt this season so you don't want to play anymore. If i were the ducks and he was pulling this crap i would tell him that if he does come back that we are going to be sending you to St. Louis since you had to drag this thing out for so damn long. Grow a pair and decide what you want to do. I really hate that man.
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted September 6, 2007 (edited) You know, it's funny...I didn't have much of a problem with Scott before this (Rob's a different story, however). Now, I just think he's a selfish tool. Great comment on the TSN boards, BTW: "I'd hate to be behind Scottie in the ice cream line." MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted September 6, 2007 Wonder why Teemu isn't holding a press conference to tell everyone that he doesn't know if he's retiring yet. Oh, that's right. He's not an idiot. SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted September 6, 2007 Typical newbie team. Just like they don't know when they should or shouldn't retire a number ,cough Avs cough, I guess they also don't know when they should and shouldn't do press conferences. The Ducks have been in the league since the early 90s. I don't think that they are really "new" anymore.
Guest jaytan Report post Posted September 7, 2007 New to me. dude I think you answered your own question. it is the hunger that keeps a guy like Cheli playing until 45-50 whatever he plays until, or hunger that makes Yzerman destroy his knee even further. However in this case it would be the lack of hunger that is driving his retirement decision. It's not all hunger. Different people have different amounts of physical abuse they can take over a career, and some guys have a few interests and goals outside of playing hockey. When you've done it all and you're coming off an amazing season (capped by a championship, no less), there's nothing wrong with ducking out. Plenty of guys retire in their mid-30s. While it's an anomaly in Detroit, it's the norm in the rest of the league.
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted September 7, 2007 A quick list of Niedermayer's accomplishments: - Stanley Cup (4) - Conn Smythe Trophy - Norris Trophy - Olympic Gold Medal - World Championship - World Cup - Memorial Cup - World Junior Hockey Championship - NHL First All-Star Team - NHL Second All-Star Team - NHL All-Rookie Team There is nothing left for him to play for. I don't blame him for not having any desire left. What's he playing for? I think it's a little on the selfish side to be taking this long, but at the same time, this is the type of decision that you want to be absolutely sure of. I don't think Scotty wants to announce his retirement, go through all of the pomp and circumstance of getting his jersey retired in New Jersey and then realize that he still wants to play. I think he just wants to get it right the first time. That said, for the sake of his teammates, the sooner the better.

tipetz22 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2007 I missed it. So he HASN'T retired yet? I just got to the thread. Nope. He will end up hurting the Ducks more then he can help them during the season, if he doesn't make up his mind soon.If it is taking this long to decide, then Scott should probably should hang them up. Somewhat of a side note: I hate that players like Clemens (and Forsberg to a certain extent) have set the precedent of sitting out a portion of the season "to make up there mind" (or, cough get more money cough in Clemens case). Seems like they are cheating their team or potential team.
Opie 308 Report post Posted September 11, 2007 I was reading the Hockey News and The NHL Yearbook on a plane ride this weekend, and I read that no matter what decision Neidermayer makes the Ducks have to eat his salary this year. Apparently the same thing happened with Vladimir Malakhov. I don't have the mags with me at work and can't quote which one it was exactly but I will before the end of the day. If this is true the Ducks are screwed if he retires!!!
