theman19 47 Report post Posted September 25, 2007 (edited) lol, you are a fool. What are you talking about? A hockey fight is more than just about how many punches a guy takes to his head. Downey got rocked,..a bunch,..but at the end of the fight he still thrown roy to the ground and ends the fight. Did he "win" the fight in the sense that he's going to run around doing the tie domi belt hand signal? No,.....but he didn't die either, and as i said at the end of the fight after taking all that abuse he manhandles roy to the ice, no small feet. LIDDYGIBBY5 1 Report post Posted September 25, 2007 Downey did get his bell rung and was still standing at the end. That has to count for something. He also landed a few shots of his own. Roy wins by a split decision, not a KO. I have to admit, I do like to see the heart and effort.

I guess you missed both of the left hands that stunned Roy. The first one put Roy down on his knees but he got back up, the 2nd one you can clearly see stung him as it landed flush. Those 2 big punches plus the take-down, that's a decision win for Downey. Not an ass kicking by any means but a win is a win. PS: I sometimes wonder how many people have been in alot of hockey fights (if any). FYI, those rapid fire shots Roy was delivering early in the fight........they are nothing. You can't get alot of power behind those punches and they are glancing blows that deflect of the shoulder pads and the back. It just looks impressive on the screen and the homer announcers look at it like he's giving Downey the beating of a lifetime. Believe me, I doubt Downey really felt any of those. Opie 308 Report post Posted September 25, 2007 (edited) Somethings I would like to point out in that fight: i. Did you notice how uncomfortable Roy was trying to fight in that jersey. Before the fight started it look like he was trying to stretch the neck of the jersey out. ii. That fight was not a great fight by any means, don't get me wrong it was a good fight and I wouldn't want either of those guys hitting me with those wild punches. But Neither was able to really get a good position and land solid grounded punches. I think if either of them could have planted a foot and let one of those with momentum going forward, they would have knocked the other out. iii. The fight was a draw, anyone who says Downey got his butt kicked was watching that with their eyes closed. Neither guy did anything to show dominance, but both landed some really nice shots. A lot of punches off of the helmet and a lot that either glanced or came up short, mainly due to the merry go round movement. I didn't see either of them really get rocked, again due to them moving in a circle away from each other none of the punches hit with the force they were delivered with. Lots of end of the punch connections. All in all, Downey held his own very well against a pretty tough dude. I have to say I think that is the first hockey fight I have seen where neither guy tries to spin momentum in the other direction. The fight went counter-clockwise the whole time. Opie 308 Report post Posted September 25, 2007 (edited) Yea bet you would have done better... I for one thought he held his own it was i pretty good fight. Because he said it was not a great fight, that means he thinks he could have done better himself? How did you get there from what he said? You said it yourself that was a pretty GOOD fight, not great, not unbelievably, not bad, not a wrestling match. Just a good NHL fight. HE WAS SEEING STARS AFTER THAT FIGHT. Roy > Downey. Sorry guys, I can't wear my red and white goggles like everyone else here. I call it the way it is. I guess all those punches to his back constitutes a stomping in your book? Check out the third punch Roy throws with his left hand to Downey's back. Simultaneously, Downey comes over the top and smacks Roy hard enough that it puts him on his knees for an instant. That, plus the take down give him a slight decision. Somethings I would like to point out in that fight: i. Did you notice how uncomfortable Roy was trying to fight in that jersey. Opie, you are spot on about the jerseys. they look terribly uncomfortable to maneuver in for a fight. Another sly attempt by Buttman to curtail fighting I bet. I had a really slim jersey once that I hated. I had to pull the sleeves up over my elbow pads in case of a fight so that prior to the fight i could yank the pads off otherwise they'd get lodged in the sleeves and f*** everything up. Plus, the jersey would rid up on my sides and get wedged under my armpits so it felt like i was in a friggin bear hug trying to fight. The more I see how the jerseys fit the more I don't really like them.

HE WAS SEEING STARS AFTER THAT FIGHT. Roy > Downey. Sorry guys, I can't wear my red and white goggles like everyone else here. I call it the way it is. You are being a baffoon in calling it that way. While Roy thew the better punchs early including ont that knocked Downeys helmet off, Downey came right back and fired some solid ones of his own and did get the take down. It was a good solid fight, a solid draw or even just the slightest edge going to Downey. It also looks like the people at dropyourgloves.com agree with me, not you. I understand that you're a Red Wings fan and want to believe Downey won, but it makes you look a bit silly thinking that. I wish Downey won too... but the facts remain the same. Downey was dazed and confused... he was seeing little birdys flying around his head after that fight. His take down on Roy was a defending attempt to get the beating to stop... he just wanted the refs to end the fight because he was knocked silly. Roy laid on a hell of beating and I bet Downy is feeling like s*** today. Roy is probably at the gym getting ready for the next game feeling good. I'm with you man... I wish Downey didn't get his ass beat too... but he did. Kudos for Downey for trying to fight tho.

I played one season with a tighter jersey, I ended up usually leaving my elbow pads on the bench if the game was getting ruff, so thhat if I had to fight I could move my arms better. After that season I made sure hey ordered jerseys that were a couple sizes too big.

Guest MrSandMan Report post Posted September 25, 2007 OUCH! I just wanted to watch the video again and Downey was Roy's lil ***** in that fight. Downey was a rag doll and didn't connect any good solid hits. I see he hit the back Roys helmet... which hurts Downey worse than Roy. Downey was a rag doll out there man.. Watch the video again. Roy beat him down. If throwing down a player after he got his senses knocked out of him is consider a "Edge" Then I guess fighting in NHL is easy to win.. just trip someone and get the "Automatic Win". Yeah that fight isn't that good. I still give kudos to Downey for trying. But I wouldn't want him signed because he lost a fight.
