How about that shootout Grigorenko goal?

just wondering what everyone thought about Igor's goal in the shootout, I can't imagine the pressure he had on him to score that. He put a nice move on and scored the goal like I knew he would. I give the guy props, Babcock says hes improving everyday which is good to hear, Hopefully he will keep working hard and become a part of our future along with Filppula and Hudler. Let him skate on a line with Pavel for one Pre-season game and I gurantee he plays even better. I also liked Kopecky's move in the shootout he is starting to impress me more and more aswell.

and finally Ritola has came out of no where, that guy has potential aswell and I hope we see him playing for the Red and White in the future.

Future holds good things for our Red Wings

That was a nifty little move. Of course I'm not going to go off the deep end and say "oh man, he's gonna be great"....

but if that's a sign of things to come..oh boy, look out!

Yeah, that goal was really nice. Backhand-forehande deke. But I have to laugh. I watched it with my wife and she said "Boy is that guy slow!". Hahahaha!

I think you have already gone overboard by suggesting someone has a lot of potential in this league because of a shootout goal he scored, but that's just me.

I think he has a lot of potential, but for completely different reasons.

It certainly was a nice move and I noticed he uses a fairly long stick for a forward which helped. However I wasnt all that impressed with his play in the rest of the game,he wasnt awful but he wasnt a standout either. We'll see what happens over the last two games.

Did she really? That's funny...could he have the potential to become a young Russian Ray Sheppard?

I think you misunderstood me Toby, I never said He has potential just because of the shootout goal. I was simply saying he is starting to shows signs of what he can do the thread title might suggest that just trying to say Overall the guy has potential and he is starting to show signs of it here and there but the little plays and things like the shootout goal. , the more and more he adjust to North American hockey from Russian Hockey. I've seen some of his Super League games and the guy sees the ice really well.

Just good to see him getting more comfortable on the ice here and look forward to great things from him. and yes the goal was nice as well.

Once he does that when it matters, then I'll be impressed. It was a nice move, but that dont mean alot. It was a shootout in a preseason game.

Im not trying to be negative, just saying, if he really wanted to impress, he wouldve won it in OT or something like that.

LOL! She sure did! She said she thought she could skate faster than him. Hahahaha.

But I love your comparison! Igor Sheppard.

Nice move on the goal, not spectacular but nice. I am going to hold off my evaluation of Mr. Grigorenko until he plays a few regular season games. He has potential, but the minor leagues have a bunch of guys that used to have the label potential attached to them. We will have to see, it looks like he improves with every game. If he keeps improving, he could become a valuable part of this team. One way or another we will learn the fate of Igor this year. Come this winter he will be either an asset to the Wings or he will be back in Russia.

I will say this, if Kirk Maltby can not be the player he used to be, the Wings might as well give Igor his minutes. The Wings could be the only team in the league to have a few skilled guys on the 4th line. If they are not going to have an enforcer or if Maltby can't contribute the way he use to, might as well get the most talent out there on the ice at one time. I would like the 4th line to have a couple of tough guys, but I am not that delusional. The Wings are not that type of team, they do not have that philosophy. So you might as well get the most guys out there that can put the puck in the net.

Grigs is all potential and has done little to showcase it. Detriot is tripping over themselves for him to show that he can be a difference maker and he's doing little to prove that he wants to make it in the line up. He always looks a step behind the play and isn't playing with any passion on defense. It is looking more and more like the Wings brass want him to make it more than he does himself. He has had a couple of flashes of offensive prowess, and that is it.

Judging from last nights game I'd have to agree. He isn't noticeable out there for long stretches at a time. Not only that, but on fast plays out of the Wings zone, Grigs gets left in the dust.

I hope it's still conditioning but as of right now Grigs doesn't deserve to be on the opening night roster. He'll have to toil as the 13th forward for a time until he can catch up. And if he can't, I guess it's back to Russia.

haha that had me laughing for a minute. Ya Igor looked like Jason Williams, another shootout expert, just a little slower. I don't know about this guy, I guess he has potential, but I haven't really seen much at all of it yet.

Was just about to say that.

It was a sweet goal. That's for sure.

As was Kopay's!

Yeah, poor Kopecky has a sweet goal himself but gets no mention because of Grig's. I would say Kopecky's was just as nice.

But boy does he look stupid in these new horribly clingy jerseys! ;)
