Meech's fate; other prospects

I don't think my one short comment about Meech rates an entire topic, but here it is:

Seeing as Meech can't be sent down without clearing waivers, and the feeling is that he'll be claimed off waivers, here's what I think should be done. Play Meech to "showcase" him for other teams, then when the time is ripe, offer him as trade bait (maybe with someone else) for either a player or a draft pick, because I think Kindl, Quincey, and Ericksson are all more talented and should be pushed up the chart.

Eventually the time will come this season when I'd like to see us bring in another offensive threat. As the months move on, more and more topics will come up, and we will hash it to death. And some LGW'rs will love it, and others will ***** about 'another trade thread' like the always do. I know the decision is ultimatley up to head office and coaches, but it'll be interesting when the time comes and the trigger is pulled to see who we can afford to let go, and what we can get in return for that talent.

I think winning every game in the season is more important than worrying about Meech clearing waivers. The ultimate decision will be if Meech is going to make the team better than any of our other prospects?

Lucky for him, his fate is going to decide more on timing than talent. Losing Sopel and Quincy's broken hand.

The thing is, Meech may not be the best available defenseman... but the Wings brass feels that he will be good enough down the line that he' worth keeping. A couple years down the road, would you rather have Kronwall, Kindl, Quincey, Ericsson as young NHL-ready defensemen in the system, or those four plus Meech? I think the answer is obvious, so you do what you can to reach that answer without hurting the team.

He's not very good at all. But it's always nice to have another Canadian on the roster.

Haha, Grapes. :P

I agree. It would be nice to have some more North Americans on the roster for once. But in any sense, I'd rather have it be anyone over Meech. He's not a very good defenseman, but he'll still make the team by default, which I absolutley cannot stand. That's one of the reasons why I don't care for Kopecky: he didn't exactly have a stellar training camp last year, but he still made the team anyways because of this waiver business.

I don't count on much production from Meech, and hopefully Quincey overtakes his spot as the season goes on. Quincey deserves to be on this team: his play during the playoffs last year was very good, considering his situation of being thrown in to replace all the injured players.

I would have to say I am most impressed with Ellis or Ritola, but I think that Grigorenko may get it by default of defection back to Russia.

Personally, I'd expect to see Ellis with Detroit for the first 2-3 weeks... Then probably a swap to avoid Grig's contract option back to Russia. Although I'm not positive that Ellis can be sent down? (I know Meech and Kopecky can't, but I haven't seen anything on Ellis). Also, Grig's has already mentioned that he wouldn't mind a couple weeks in GR... So I think this probably will be the most likely situation.

It all depends on what I could get for Meech... which won't be much

This thread is retarted. In essence, you are whining about who you would rather see play half the season at 7 minutes a night..... Would you rather see Quincey sit in the press box, or play a ton of minutes in GR including on the powerplay. We already have 6 d-men ready to log most of the icetime. Moreso now that Sopel is out of the picture, Meech isn't going anywhere, atleast not till the trade deadline possibly. He'll play when someone gets injured, or give Chelios a rest once in a while. He's a decent defenseman. He looked good when he played for the wings last year, and he looked good this preseason. Relax. I mean if it makes any sense, I predict Meech will play some where around 41 games, maybe score 2 goals, and have a few assists.
