HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 I've convinced a ton of people I know to buy tickets. I also plan to buy about 4 myself to treat my family to a game, since we're all huge Wings fans. It's time to start buy tickets people! If the Florida Panthers can sell out their home openers, there is no reason why the Detroit Red Wings can't. This is Hockeytown, so let's start showing our support! Hell yeah! Thats the spirit. So many of my friends want to go, but they are all working late. I'm hoping my Dad gets tickets tomorrow morning and surprises me. *crosses fingers*

Vancouver Wings Fan 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 I live in BC, and I generally get to 2-3 games in Van a year, and I'm lucky if I find anything at $90. So, for $9, haha, well I just may take a trip out that way. No doubt! I was looking for tickets to the Oct 28 game out here...sold out of course and at a premium becuase its Detroit in town. Prices on Craigslist aroud $150 to $200 for section 310 (upper deck nosebleeds!) It makes me sick the gouge out here and the give away at home in Detroit! Equally sick is the lack of support......we have a great team on the ice, cheap tickets, defending Cup champs in town, a full bloom rivalry with Anaheim....and the home opener is not sold out....disgusting and shameful! ShanahanMan 473 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 its not just that there are tickets available. Its the fact that there are GOOD tickets available. I went on ticketmaster today and did a request for 3 tickets to the home opener and had an option to buy in section 110 or 208! How the hell are THESE locations still left? I would like to see how many late bloomers actually get the coveted $9 at the box office. seems close to the season ticket plans starting at $22 (see website for details) awwww i am sorry SOLD OF THE LOWER PRICE.... kinda like Brann's Free beer yesterday deal. redwingslady87 130 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 (edited) has anyone tried calling the joe box office to see if there are $9 tickets left? I tried calling but no answer. Just wanted to know if anyone has got an answer or if im gonna have to drive down there to possibly find out that there are none left. Scratch that. Finally got ahold of someone and there are no $9 tickets left. Since I'm already going to next wednesdays game, and paid a bit more for those suckers, I guess i'm gonna be at home watching them on VS (ughhh) Edited October 3, 2007 by redwingslady87

Heaton 1 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 http://www.dailystubs.com/ResultsTicket.aspx?evtid=640275 Some $20 tickets left. Surprised the do actually. I mean having you go down and not having the tickets might entice a captive audience to purchase better seats, worse prices. RedWingsFanatic 4 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 Well, I'll be at the game tonight and couldn't be more excited. I'm just itching with anticipation to see the new line combos play in a real game, against a very good team. Should be a lot of fun. I'm also interested in seeing the crowd's reaction to Bertuzzi. toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 I really wish I was in Detroit right about now. I may make a trip this year, I'm in the Toronto area so it really isn't that far. Actually, I'm in Burlington now, so that's already 30-45 minutes closer. Alarming thing though, I just went on to ticketmaster and was able to get 16 seats in a row.....in a row!! I didn't order them, but they were available to me.
Hank 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 The Redwings Corner blog had an excellent take on this too. I still think the Wings desperately need a North American offensive star to bring people back to the rink. Anyway, I saw an add for Wings tickets today on ESPN. I was floored. I can't remember the last time I saw the Wings actually advertising tickets. Part of me is upset that it's not a sellout tonight but more of me is smiling. I"m still miffed at Illitch for refusing to reduce ticket prices when the lockout ended. His payroll was cut in HALF and yet he kept the same overinflated prices. I think that was a major mistake. Having $9 tickets helps and I'm happy that I'll be able to get tickets this year to pretty much any game I want. But I really hope this sends a message, loud and clear, to brillo-top that he needs to reach out to the fans a lot more. Hey Illitch! How about you actually make your players more accessible to the fans??? Pittsburgh has the most exciting and gifted player since Gretzky hand-delivering season tickets to Pens fans. When's the last time you anyone saw Yzerman out signing autographs? It's been at least 15 years. I know Stevie's very private but he was able to be shielded because of the popularity of the team. It's time to get guys like Zetts, Dats and Lidstrom out to public signings or meet-and-greets like the Tigers have.

Seriously ... how can you not smile... i mean try to get into any pub in this state, well apart from certain areas (you know who you are) during game time.... they are packed with rabid fans... just cause they aren't at the joe doesn't mean they are not supporting.... The players know this also... the media is the ones who try to spin it to show arena not SOLD OUT = FANS SUCK in detroit.

There's a tonne of Wings fans in the area who simply cannot afford to go to games. Even at $22 that'll cost me $44 for the tix, $20 for parking and the I know I'll grab something to eat and drink. If I get any souvenirs we're looking at close to $100.00. That's not too bad but I can only do that once or twice a year. OsGOD 3 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 (edited) Those that get single tickets and only have to pay for one ticket it is MUCH easier than paying for a spouse/bf/gf or whomever you go with. Families are the ones that have a hard time going... not saying singles have an easier time all the time... but paying for only your ticket is alot easier than a family ticket. i mean you read OMG there are lower bowl row 2 tickets avaialble... i can't believe it! i am going to grab it. Hardly ever does only 1 person go and if so its only $85. For a pair to go its an automatic $170 right of the top. i can see exactly why those seats are available now. proc 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 (edited) After 20 years of having season tickets, my brother and our two buddies and I gave them up. Why? Well, first off, I was out voted 3-1 and have since bought some tickets from some friends who sat in front of us. Secondly, we have been a bit bitter about the sickening gouging that takes place at playoff time. We haven't bought the playoff seats in years. Couple that, with what others have said about getting the payroll nearly slashed in half, yet ticket prices didn't get slashed. And schedule is terrible. We are tired of it. I'd rather see Toronto, Montreal, Boston, New York, Pittsburgth, etc., than Anaheim, Nashville and Columbus. I don't care if the Ducks are the defending champs. We need a new schedule. Heck, Illitch and Devellano were right on in their Detroit News interview -- we need to be in the East. It was a gravy train for Illitch. Time to lower the prices and give the fans of this economically depressed area a break. Honestly, when Ford bought out 35,000 employees last year, many from this area, it makes you wonder how that ripple effect hit the Wings. As for the Tigers success at the gate? This is a baseball town. It just hasn't had a "team" in the past 2 decades until last year. Plus, you don't pay $44 a seat to sit 4 rows from the top. My seats 11 rows from the field were $17 in my 27-game package. As for $9 tickets, honestly, how many of these will be available? If we could buy them online, i.e. Ticketmaster, then it'd be great. I am not driving down to the box office to fight for a few tickets. No way. I love the Wings and as I mentioned, have bought some seats to games this year, but still think changes are on the horizon. Its time to reward the loyal fans of this team. Edited October 3, 2007 by proc

Its time to reward the loyal fans of this team. Good post. I still think Illitch should make the playes more accessible to the fans. The Tigers always have a meet-and-greet before the season starts. The Wings need to start doing that too. Get people connected to the team. I loved how the Tigers celebrated with the fans when they won the ALDS and ALCS. It made Tigers fans believe that they were apart of the team as well. When's the last time the Wings ever did anything like that (in regards to meeting the fans)? I guarentee you if Illitch had a 'meet the team' event where anyone can come to the joe and hang out with the players, taking pictures, getting autographs, more tickets will sell. I hate how snobby this team can appear to be at times. I know it's not the players fault, as I'm sure most of them would love something like this. It's time the brass let the shields down and the fans in.
