ProfessorLidstrom5 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 Good move by the Sens. Heatley can only get better and is good for 40+ goals every season. I expect him to have a stellar year again this season.
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 I think this pretty well concludes that this is Redden's last season in Ottawa.

Son of a Wing 1,644 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 (edited) Great deal. When they lock up Spezza later this year that will give them a dynamic 1-2 punch for years to come. Edited October 3, 2007 by Son of a Wing

Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted October 3, 2007 Damn I think hes underpaid. <Insert "BUT I WANTED HIM AT THE TRADE DEADLINE" post here>
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 My first intention was to say that he was underpaid, but then if you think about Thornton and Iginla, its not that big of a deal. Not to mention, although hes improved greatly in his own end, he still has some work to do to become an elite all-around player. Good deal nonetheless. Son of a Wing 1,644 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 i wonder if they will have trouble signing spezza and redden? anybody know? Well with the cap going up for next year and Spezza being a RFA I would say no for him. I would have to think Redden is gone after this year though. Unless he takes a big paycut to stay. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 i wonder if they will have trouble signing spezza and redden? anybody know? The Sens have been trying to trade Redden for the past season, if not the season before, but Redden keeps on invoking his no-trade clause. Undoubtedly, hes not going to want to re-sign knowing they want to get rid of him. The Sens have a good core with Phillips and Volchenkov there. They'll sign up Spezza before he can be made an offer sheet and worry about the rest later. ..And did people actually think the Wings had a snowballs chance in hell of getting Heatley?? Dream on. The Wings will be lucky if they can land Rolston in the off-season (if hes still a UFA by then), let alone a player of Heatley's stature.
Guest jaytan Report post Posted October 4, 2007 Rolston would be amazing. Let's cheer against the Wild so he'll be available at the deadline.
zata40 3 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 great deal. it's good to see good players not jump around the league from team to team, but stay in one place.

Unless he takes a big paycut to stay. Why do you say the cap is going up next year? With the Canadian dollar now worth more than the US dollar, maybe it will, but I'm not 100% confident that the cap will increase next year. With respect to Heatley potentially being underpaid, I don't think so. There are a few guys in the league that are overpaid, but with this new contract, I don't think Heatley is underpaid. From what I can tell, there are only 3 players making more money than him: Lidstrom, Crosby and Richards. Yes, can't argue too much for 2 of those guys making more, but Richards? Richards is definately overpaid at $7.8 million, but that doesn't make Heatley underpaid at $7.5 million.

With the Canadian dollar now worth more than the US dollar, maybe it will, but I'm not 100% confident that the cap will increase next year. The Canadian dollar's rise is one of the main reasons why the cap and league profits went up so much this past year. The Canadien clubs all have to pay into the revenue sharing pot since the lockout. Also between 33 and 55% of league's revenue comes from Canada. I can't remember the actual number I read but it really smacked the US clubs. If the Candian dollar equals ~$1.05 to $1.15 US by the end of the season then I have a feeling the cap will rise again like it did last season.
Kutcher 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 I really think the sens made the right deal. But now that makes Spezza say he's worth that money to. Will be tight for them to sign him and have money for another top D-man when Redden leaves. Also I doubt the cap will increase much if at all, due to the fact that many small market teams are already struggling with the minimum cap as it is. So the cap rising again will put them in more trouble and cause the larger market teams to spend more in profit sharing and in turn harm the over all profits of the league. Well, none of that really makes a difference in terms of the cap going up or not. If revenues increase, the cap will go up, simple as that.
Production Line 1 Report post Posted October 5, 2007 Worth much much more. Great signing. It will set how much Spezza gets. Those 2 are the franchise for years to come. I aquired Heatley as a late round draft pick the year of his accident. Been a keeper in my fantasy league ever since and for years to come. And a big reason why my team came in first last year...
