Pics from tonight's season opener vs. Ducks

The flame shooters, while a nice touch, don't really fit for the Wings. I know the new advertisement slogan is "Fire on Ice" but it still seems a little odd.

Regardless, it is nice to see the Wings organization actually thinking outside the box for once. I was at the game tonight too, and while it was fun, they still need to update the in-game entertainment (music, videos on the scoreboard, etc). They can't keep using the same stuff from like 1991 or whatever. It's too old.

Cool pics by the way.

Those pyrotechnics were damn hot, too. I was surprised. If the "Fire on Ice" slogan wasn't a ripoff of some Calgary Flames marketing gimmick the flamethrowers going off during the pre-game and after Red Wing goals sealed it.

Disappointing to see LOTS of empty seats in the upper bowl, mostly on the ends but especially in the corners.

Nice pics. Looks like you had some great seats.

the fire on ice things is kind of strange in my opinion. Doesn't seem to fit the wings but i'm glad that they are trying to do somthing to get the fans a little more into the game.

Heh.

Well, it's nice to see the Wings at least changing things up at the Joe for once. But yes, I do agree. It is kind of a ripoff, and really doesn't fit that well.

smart ass

nice pics btw.

You rang?

Yes the pics are awesome indeed.

I am happy to see the same half ass effort put into the opening page of the wings official site was put into the pyro show at the joe. if they wanted to be original they should add flame thowers into the face off dots and then a goal is scored the flames rise from the ice. Rest in peace the poor soul that happened to be resting on one at the time. But that unfortuante event is just part of the game when you have fire on ice.

 Dave and Chuck the freak said it best... its sounds like some celtic figure skating club.

But it looks cooooool. ;) Anyway, they were trying to dress the place up a bit with the full-color graphics of the "Fire on Ice" theme going around the wall at the top of the upper bowl.

Still couldn't get over the empty seats in the place -- I mean, when they were introducing the players the arena wasn't even half full yet.

Nice pictures. I wish I could have been there.

I'm ticked that Versus did the game last night because we missed the player intros, which I like seeing. I like to see the guys get the biggest applause. I heard Cheli's over the two mouths and it sounded like he got quite a reception.

Glad everyone enjoyed the pictures. I thought the "Fire On Ice" gimmick was cool, but then again when Pantera had flames shooting out of their sign at the "Reinventing the Steel" tour, I thought it was cool then. Flames shooting out of stuff is always cool.

I was bothered by the empty seats too, that was the one downer to the whole night. If you're like some people on this board (Offsides) and you don't let it bother you, then it was just an incredible night to be a Red Wings fan in Detroit. I wish all the out-of-towners on this board could be there to fill in all those great empty seats!

I'll continue to post pics from games periodically, for the people who can't get there and appreciate it. I've been waiting like 10 years for the chance to have seats like these for the Wings, so I'm living the dream.
