VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted October 10, 2007 I like how baggy the old jerseys are. Any new ones I buy will be old ones, I'm extremely reluctant to buy the new ones. If I wanted a T-shirt or other tighter shirt, I'd buy a t-shirt. I have an old UofM hockey jersey, a Chelios red jersey, and one of those '92 striped vintage jerseys. During the winter I wear them all the time. Summer, not so much, I stick to t-shirts then. I've never EVER heard of someone rolling up sleeves on a hockey jersey. Do people really do this? Offsides 21 Report post Posted October 10, 2007 Most old timers or traditionalists are complaining about several facts about the new jerseys...see what auxelpli posted. Old timiness and traditionalism aside...I think they are ugly. Almost all of the really nice ones are downgraded, imo. Detroit got relatively lucky but it's still worse than it was, if only slightly. Caps jerseys are one of the, what? 2? exceptions.... They're just...ugly now..lol.
WingNutt 12 Report post Posted October 10, 2007 (edited) It gets hot in florida guys...cmon still haven't answered my question Viperar, do you suggest buying the jersey online or getting one at Verizon ?? which one would cost more? the ones on NHL.com appear to not be shipping yet by the comment above. so do I wait like he is or wait and get one at Verizon when I go around Jan. Viperar 16 Report post Posted October 10, 2007 I do believe the ones at Verizon Center are probably a little more expensive but when you calculate in shipping and wait time, I think its better to get one there. I have no complaints about mine, it was already customized to Ovechkin, but at the Verizon Center if you have tickets for the game they have stands to customize it for you as well. I think most replicas are running anywhere between 160-190 anywhere you go. The verizon center just makes it easier. If youre coming in January, which game are going to be going to? Offsides, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I do agree with you that most of them are ugly, and I will judge when my Yzerman one comes in at how it compares to the older red wings one. But speaking solely from a fan not wearing a bag and just having something more comfortable on, the new jerseys win in my book far and away. Change is always challenging, but it can also bring good things. Dont be so quick to judge

Not sure what game we are going to just that it should be around Jan some time I'll let you know. We went to Pittsburgh last year to watch the Caps play the Pens, Wanted to see Ovechkin play and he wasn't coming to Detroit last season, so we had to go to the next closest arena and hey why not see Sid the Kid and Malkin while were at it right? also Mellon Arena isn't going to be around much longer so I wanted to check that out as well. auxlepli 17 Report post Posted October 10, 2007 To be honest I like the bagginess of the old jerseys. If you felt they were baggy why didn't you buy smaller ones? Datsyuk does just the opposite with the new sweaters. I'm not as opposed to them as I initially was, (though I still don't like the cut of them much) but it concerns me when players are still having a problem with them. These EDGE jerseys were supposedly in the works for like three years. Why aren't these bugs worked out? Bettman's attitude toward the players, and fans, who don't like them is awful. It's a money-making scheme with little or no regard how fans and players feel IMO. It's his atttude about everything he does and says that I think turns fans off, and I even agree with him about some things - mainly the lockout situation, and not wanting teams to move. He's a bad figurehead for hockey, and he turns fans off toward the NHL. Add this to another reason why Wings fans aren't attending games.
Viperar 16 Report post Posted October 10, 2007 The issue wasnt buying smaller or biggeer. The build of the jersey was just baggy. I agree bettman's skills at doing the right thing is probably off, but separate that with the issues of the jersey. Reebok has stated it has contacted players to get feedback and is working on this issue. Imagine if all the changes in the world, had some problems and instead of just moving forward and fixing them, we abandoned it all together and gave up so quickly. Its been a whole 2 weeks of the season.
auxlepli 17 Report post Posted October 10, 2007 Three years and two weeks. Seems I remember reading that they were working on them during the lockout. That article even quoted Bettman, but maybe he was lying about that too.

Defenseman13 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2007 (edited) You wear a hockey jersey as an everyday piece of clothing? uh...yeah? You don't? I wear jerseys constantly. I wear it to work, which is my design firm. I wear jerseys in the middle of a heatwave, in the summer, and in the rain. I wear any number of team's jerseys, those that I grew up with and are a fan of. I wear everything but my jersey (ECHL), that's going too far. I wear obscure minor league jerseys and confuse Californians working around me. When I have to wear my monkey suit, I have a SHarks tie pin. WHen I entertain or have to go somewhere with a dress code, I wear a SHarks shirt under the sports coat. I wear them in the off season. My friends and family expect this, and the girlfriend expects this on any given occasion. But that's just me. You like hockey, no? superstarsingh 23 Report post Posted October 11, 2007 I agree, I'll wear jerseys on a regular basis. I have the new jersey and I am not too fond of it but that is just me. I find the older ones to be a lot nicer.
union drone 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2007 I never really understood the big uproar about the jerseys. When I first heard all the complaining, I expected the worst. When I actually got to see the jerseys during a game, I had to look close to even tell the difference.
Sting 11 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2007 "One of the players said the uniforms are fine," Bettman said. "Some players just don't like change." - That's the best part of the article. It seems Buttman cares a lot about the league. After all, he asked one player for his opinion on this issue. This quote makes it painfully obvious that the players union needs to get involved.
