GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted February 10, 2008 I have to give props to Downey for being able to beat a legit heavy like Parros. The only guy Downey has beaten cleanly this year was McLaren, who's not really a fighter. Hopefully, we'll see Downey drop the gloves more often now, especially since he'll be a regular in the lineup with Cleary being hurt.

Yeah you could see the boys on the bench reacting to Downey when he skated to the dressing room, i think they were in a bit of shock themselves that he beat Parros! This is the first time a Red Wing has defeated a heavyweight since 02-03...wow talk about a wait!

arnoldbuck 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2008 I would just like to say, I scan through this thread from time to time, see what comes up. Points me to some good highlights from time to time. But mainly, I just love the longevity of this thread. It has been on forever.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted February 10, 2008 Like the PARROS in your sig. It does deserve CAPS. Yeah i was gonna bold it too, but didnt wanna get too carried away! Call me crazy but im still damn excited that Downey won, even though it wasnt much of a fight. Like i said, its been years since we've had somebody beat a guy like Parros! Thats agony for a guy like me!

Didn't Lilja land on top of him as I recall?
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 Downey did great against Parros! I'm surprised he did so well against an established heavyweight like that. He really controlled that fight. Great job by Downey. I've been waiting to see him take control of a fight this season, and he picked a great guy to do it against as well. Too bad it didn't spark the Wings to a win, but it almost did.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 (edited) This is the first time a Red Wing has defeated a heavyweight since 02-03...wow talk about a wait! It's been that long? Wow, I can't believe it. I thought Fischer fought Barnaby not too long ago before his heart problem, but maybe I'm thinking of somebody else. I still can't believe it's actually been that long. Fischer did beat Barnaby, but he's definitely not a heavyweight. The last one i could think of was McCarty over Reed Low, i mean, thats a ridiculously long time... Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 I said it when we signed him, and I'll say it again. I love you Aaron Downey. Cant wait till Nashville on tuesday, Hordichuk or Tootoo will be great
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 Funny...i completely forgot about out Norton last year...some impression he made on me I guess you could give him the Ivanans fight, but it wasnt much of a W if it even was one at all.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 I didnt even consider him an enforcer. He got in fights, hugged and fell down. I was so glad when he was sent down (Only because I was under the impression Booter was coming up and he didnt >)
johnnyoski 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 Great win for Downey...had me applauding from my own living room. "Porn-stache" definitely counts as a heavyweight but I can't think of any other current fighter with such awful balance.
skacore 2 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 in 2004 Shanny split open Jim Cummins pretty nicely... not a decisive victory but I'd say a victory non the less... Jim Cummins was a lesser heavyweight at the time

Jim Cummins was a lesser heavyweight at the time Cummins wasn't any kind of heavyweight, and was pretty much a punching bag throughout his career.
skacore 2 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 Cummins wasn't any kind of heavyweight, and was pretty much a punching bag throughout his career. he got beat a lot but he was still a heavy
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 Jim Cummins wasnt a heavy imo, he was a light heavy (which i also consider guys like McCarty, May, and Barch for comparison purposes)
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 Not a fight, but a cool fighting stat.. Dan Carcillo has an average of 5.05 PIMs per game in his career. I hope this kid has a very long career .
Grittzkey 1 Report post Posted February 15, 2008 Carcillo Will end up being on like 10 diff teams in his career. the PIM will catch up to him sooner or later
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted February 15, 2008 Not really, he's got skill too. His +/- is only bad cuz he's on Phoenix, plus he plays on the lower lines.
