Cheli24 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2007 I watched the whole game tonight. Just checked the game summary on NHL.COM. The stars of the game were recorded as 1. K. Maltby (2 goals) 2. M. Tellqvist (Phoenix goalie, gave up 5 goals) 3. C. Chelios (2 assists) Am I missing something here? The goalie that gave up 5 goals is listed as the 2nd star of the game, yet Henrik Zetterberg, who played great defense all game (even saved a goal) and had a goal of his own along with an assist, isn't? Kind of confused here. How did Tellqvist make the list, and Hank didn't? Not a professional when it comes to hockey scoring, so some insight on this would be great. They don't want to feel TO sorry for themselves.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted October 21, 2007 Tellqvist made 37 saves ...
Earthhuman 8 Report post Posted October 21, 2007 Tellqvist made 37 saves ... And let in 5 goals. Not great. Good. But not goal, assist, and great defensive play good.
Cheli24 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2007 (edited) Tellqvist made 37 saves ... Fair enough, but giving up 5 goals is giving up 5 goals. Not to mention that the referee blew a call that would have made it 6 goals. (The Homer interference). Edited October 21, 2007 by Cheli24
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted October 21, 2007 Oh, I agree with you guys, it's just the reason he wouldve been named 2nd star is his 37 saves.

Cicada 4 Report post Posted October 21, 2007 Pang probably chose it... he was a goaltender
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted October 21, 2007 I never understand the awards on game stars. Tellqvist-Sawchuk stopped 37 pucks, some of them saves, some of them pucks that ended up in front of him. He lost, he shouldn't get a star. Zetterburg should have, but ho-hum, he's Zetterburg and this sort of performance is expected, no recognition required. BTW, Pang wasn't ever much of a goaltender, except in his own mind. lfd250 1 Report post Posted October 21, 2007 They can't give it to him every game, they have to spread it out or no one would play.
Coyote0106 2 Report post Posted October 21, 2007 They just needed to throw the dogs a bone.... the Griffins got blown out at home, and they got a star, same deal. Its just a way to make the home team feel like they atleast had one decent player.
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted October 21, 2007 They didn't want Wayne to cry. I mean, we did already run up the score and everything.
chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted October 21, 2007 They didn't want Wayne to cry. I mean, we did already run up the score and everything. Boy this is a silly discussion. We beat their asses. Who cares who they name the stars. Give me the win, you can have the stars.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted October 21, 2007 I'm more surprised that Chelios got a star above Zetterberg
seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted October 21, 2007 It's not as bad as Anaheim's shutout loss to Minnesota. Pronger and Moen were the 2nd and 3rd stars that game...
