raidedredwing2 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2007 With hasek being down and out for the next few days, hopefully we will be get a chance to see Howard start sometime next week. And as much as i want this kid signed long term by detroit. He really hasnt had the chance to fit in with the team. Jimmy has been off to a decent start so far in GR and pretty much has split the time in net with Adam Berkhoel..... Howard is 3-1 with a GAA of 3.00 and SV% of .902 Not too bad. He was very impressive at camp because he trained constantly over the summer and was quicker in the net. As much as the wings have been known for going out and "grabbing netminders" in the summertime. I dont think going out and getting a goaltender just because of the stats they have posted in previous seasons. Look at some of the netminders today, Kipp from Calgary.... not so impressive so far The devils are of to a terrible start. I think howard would be a smart choice, with a stable backup like ozzie
irishtemper14+25 11 Report post Posted October 28, 2007 i would love to see kippa, considering in my opinion he is the best possible goalie to get
HenryMalredo 2 Report post Posted October 28, 2007 (edited) Theres no way the Wings will go after a big name goalie this summer. They have big long term investments in Datsyuk, Rafalski, and Kronwall, and will make a big long term investment in Zetterberg when he is an rfa, and of course Lidstrom will be making big money until he retires. Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted October 28, 2007 The way Leclaire has been playing, I wouldn't mind if the Wings picked him up, although he isn't a free agent.
Izzy24 44 Report post Posted October 28, 2007 I'd rather shoot myself in the head than have Aebischer be our starting goalie? What are you thinking? I don't understand your first question, as for your second, I'm thinking he's pretty good with a less sucky team in front of him, and wouldn't cost that much. Come on, you know what Wings fans are like. The 1st time he gives up a questionable goal, we're all gonna be asking for his head. We've run Cujo, Osgood, and Legace out of town, and I don't think he's better than any of those guys. As for playing in front of a good team, he had a good team in Colorado, yet he didn't succeed enough to stay there.
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted October 28, 2007 Kiprusoff is expected to sign an extension with Calgary soon.
irishtemper14+25 11 Report post Posted October 28, 2007 except in the summer or last yr when they offered one to him he didnt acccept it, i think hes tired of carrying that team...i dont think hell play for them or hell get a raise
chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted October 28, 2007 It all depends on how Howard plays. If he's really good, they'll go with Howard/Osgood...with the hope being that Howard assumes the #1 job with Ozzie being the fallback safety net plan. If he's not a stand out goalie this year in GR, and Hasek is gone, i think they'd actually go the Kipper route. I just really dont think they'd go into a season with Osgood as the clear #1 imo. Remember this pesky salary cap thing. Well, realistically you can only have a few 6M+ guys on a team, 3 or 4 max. We got Lids and Datsyuk. This summer, we will add Z to that list. Kipper is one of the top 2 or 3 goalies in the league and he is going to get at least 5mil, maybe more. Plain and simple, we can't afford him. Just like we couldn't afford Brier or Ryan Smythe or Druary. End of discussion Remember this pesky salary cap thing. Well, realistically you can only have a few 6M+ guys on a team, 3 or 4 max. Hiei 192 Report post Posted October 28, 2007 Out of the first list, I like Sanford and Auld. You'd like em too if you saw em play. Straight-forward, upright goaltending. and they're victims of all-star goalies and horrible defenses.
Mickeyisms Rule! 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2007 Howard and Ozzie next season. I think that we really have to leave it up to the brain trust on whether Howard's season is good in GR or not. The 2 games I have seen him play in GR the defense was leaving him hanging out to dry way to often. You expect a goalie to come up with game saving saves- but not every time the puck is in his zone. I'm more worried about the future of the Wings defense than I am of the goaltending at this point.
