Lamothe 5 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 (edited) I know a number of Toronto fans are members here and I simply wanted to express my heartfelt condolences to you for McCabes latest game blowing mistake in OT vs. Montreal. I cannot believe he continues to play so poorly. I can't even imagine what I'd do if I was a serious Maple Leaf Fan. I hope to God he never wears a Winged Wheel. eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 Defensemen in the Eastern Conference must really be terrible..seeing as McCabe is on the All-Star ballot. I'm putting the over/under for McCabe ASG votes at 1000.
Guest Crymson Report post Posted November 14, 2007 What happened with 'Caber now He executed a head-down pass along the blue-line that Komisarek picked off and put into the net on the other end. The really hilarious part is that not only is McCabe one of Toronto's premiere defensemen--and thus indispensable--and not only does he suck, but he also makes $7m per year. toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 $7 mill .....Wow talk about overpaid; thought he was in the $5 mill category.....That's what's kinda funny about McCabe - he's got alot of talent (enough to be an All-Star on a consistent basis), but like the scarecrow he really could use a brain He's making just over $7 million this year, but his avIerage salary over his contract is $5.75 million....still way too high, but not as bad as $7 million looks. Also, I highly doubt the Leafs see him as indispensible. If I were to guess, I think they would love to get rid of him, but that's not possible with his high salary and no trade clause. SweWings 45 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 Why the hell did Toronto management lock up $15 million in Kubina, McCabe and Kaberle? I mean, sure, Detroit's trio of Lidström, Rafalski and Kronwall make more ($1.6 million to be exact) but damn am I glad we have those three and not Toronto's top trio... I'm putting the over/under for McCabe ASG votes at 1000. Not so sure the Defensemen i nthe Eastern conference are terrible. McCabe should never be an All-Star, but he's on the ballot due to his offense (same reason Gonchar is on there....if he is indeed on there, I haven't checked). I was watching the Sens game the other day and their defensmen are amazing, then again, probably not fair to use them as the example. I've watched quite a few Pittsburgh games as well and their defensemen are incredibly terrible (worst I've seen in awhile). Speaking of Pittsburgh, I feel bad for them. For some reason, some media types have hyped them to be cup contenders coming into this season, obviously because of Crosby, but they must have some sort of a basketball background where one player makes a big difference....it doesn't work that way in hockey. They are supposedly an offensive powerhouse....not based on the games I have watched. Their defense is terrible, MAF is actually a great goalie, but his is still young and gets absolutely no support. If you look at that team, beyond Crosby and Malkin, they are terrible (Staal has been a good penalty killer, but other than that, he's been pretty bad). They also boast the two oldest forwards in the league in Recchi and Roberts. Hate to say it, but it looks like those 2 should have hung up the skates last year. The guy plays worse defense than a pylon on a lazy susan ! I am amazed that he makes more than $2mill, let alone considered an all-star, he's probably the worst d-man in the league. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted November 15, 2007 (edited) It's not the fact that McCabe is a horrible decision maker that makes the Leafs defence so bad, it's the fact that right behind McCabe on the depth chart is Kubina, who is WAY worse then McCabe and costs just as much. And to top it off they have Mr. Useless Andy Wosnewski. If Coliacovo ever got healthy, the Leafs defence might actually be decent. Kaberle-Kubina McCabe-Coliacovo White-Gill Stralman Too bad for T.O. that'll never happen. Edited November 15, 2007 by Detroit # 1 Fan
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted November 15, 2007 I can't believe he's still in the NHL. This sort of stuff is what is being taught in Peewee hockey: Don't pass with your head down. How damn stupid is he anyways? If he doesn't know the simple fundamentals of the game, than what is he doing playing in a league like the NHL? At best, McCabe is a #4-6 defenseman. He's fine offensivily and on the PP, and if he was being paid a respectable amount of money, he'd be fine. But... he's not. When you're being paid 7 million a season, you better be one of the best damn defenseman in the league. Heck, you better win the Norris Trophy, be a finalist, or at least be considered for it if you're making that much money. He's extremely overpaid. I wouldn't mind him so much if he had a normal contract, but he doesn't. He needs to take a paycut.

Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted November 15, 2007 TORONTO - The good news is, the Toronto Maple Leafs recorded a point for the third consecutive game. The bad news is, they didn't come away with a win for the second straight game. And for Bryan McCabe, the really bad news is, another one of his errors directly led to a loss for his team. "It sucks," said McCabe, whose turnover at the beginning of overtime led to a breakaway goal by Canadiens defenceman Mike Komisarek in Montreal's 4-3 win over Toronto at Air Canada Centre on Tuesday. "I played a hard game again. It seems like they always end in a glaring error, so that's not a good thing. But ... we got another point tonight, three games in a row, so we'll keep taking those." The loss, and the manner in which it happened, clearly left McCabe downcast after the game. "Five seconds earlier, I could've been the hero," said McCabe, who shot the puck into his own net to give the Sabres a win over the Maple Leafs in Buffalo on Oct. 15. "I just tried to make a play. I should've put it deep, and (Komisarek) read the play. What can you do? Ohhh dear.
Hank 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2007 (edited) He executed a head-down pass along the blue-line that Komisarek picked off and put into the net on the other end. The really hilarious part is that not only is McCabe one of Toronto's premiere defensemen--and thus indispensable--and not only does he suck, but he also makes $7m per year. And a No-Trade clause. Explain to me again how John Fergeson Jr. still has a job? I also have no idea how Maple Leaf fans can be that upset with McCabe. He's been making bone head plays like this since his first game in the league. If he isn't giving the puck away he's taking a stupid penalty. This guy is a black hole for any team. Whomever owns his services will never, ever win a Stanley Cup. Same goes with Tucker. "Five seconds earlier, I could've been the hero," said McCabe, who shot the puck into his own net to give the Sabres a win over the Maple Leafs in Buffalo on Oct. 15. "I just tried to make a play. I should've put it deep, and (Komisarek) read the play. What can you do?" You could get the puck deep idiot!!! These are mistakes that first or second year players make. Not 10 year vets who make close to $6M a year. Especially ones who have been given prime ice and top assignments for years. And yet, McStupid will make that exact same play the next time the situation arises. Guarenteed. He's simply too stupid to be a good defensemen in the NHL. I'd take Brent Lebda over McCabe any day of the week. Not only is Lebs cheaper but he's smart too. McCabe is a one-trick pony. If he's not firing one-timers in from the point on powerplays he's taking penalties and giving teams wins with poor decision making.
