motorcitykid 42 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 (edited) I've been having this debate with some friends since Saturday. I laughed my ass off at Avery talking smack to Tucker pre-game and how Tucker could only do what he does best - slash Avery. Nevermind that practically non-fight later in the game. I'm finding it so hilarious everyone is talking about Avery being such a s*** disturber yet Tucker is off the hook as far as his antics every game. WTF? Now I realize some of you still dislike Avery. Taking that out of the equation, as a HOCKEY fan, what's your feelings? Edited November 14, 2007 by motorcitykid
Turkey 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 Didn't Avery go to L.A. while the team was being coached by Lewis, not Bowman? Am I confused about this?
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 Avery and Tucker play the same type of s*** disturbing game. I think Tucker has more offensive upside though (or used to, he is 5 or 6 years older than Avery). From what I have heard though, Tucker doesn't make the classless remarks that Avery does to other players....don't get me wrong though, Tucker does get under guys' skins. Neither guy is going to drop their gloves with a heavyweight.

I forgot it was that summer in '02 Scotty left. Fixed. Edited November 14, 2007 by motorcitykid
wingslogo19 281 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 It's interesting you say this MCK.. I was watching sportsnet yesterday, and the 3 guys on the panel was saying that a heavyweight needs to drop the gloves and fight Avery.. but nothing was said for Tucker.. IMO, both are good at what they do. When Avery actually plays hockey, he's not that bad
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 that was easy. I like Sean, brat that he is. He's a good player, just a pest. Like Domi, but not as dumb. Never could stand Tucker.
BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 I really think most of the outrage directed at Avery was fueled by his alleged trash talk involving Blake's cancer. He might be more despised than Tucker at this point regardless, though.
Guest jaytan Report post Posted November 14, 2007 You've got to love Avery! I was almost surprised when I heard he hit Blake with some cancer smack, but you've got to give it up to him for knowing just the right thing to push anybody's buttons.

I don't agree with another player saying something about that, or a racist comment. that's where the line has to be drawn IMO
Guest jaytan Report post Posted November 14, 2007 I dunno. They're all men out there, and they've got to have pretty thick skin to be playing in the NHL. If saying something that offends an opponent can knock him off his game, I fully support it. After all, they're just words.
arnoldbuck 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 This is the way I see it ... I was happy when we got rid of Avery. I was even happier about the move when he really can into fine form in LA. f*** what was Alicia thinking!?! Anyway, I'd never want him on this team. However, I would've liked to have Tucker. He did get a a lot of coin from the Leafs, and I dont know if I'd pay that for a role playing guy like him. But he is tough, can drop the gloves, hit, aggitate and score. This isn't a case where you can just look at numbers and say, this guy is better than this guy. This is going to be all about opinions. And it is going to come down to which one pissed you off more, haha.

Guest jaytan Report post Posted November 14, 2007 Sure. What's the worst that can happen? It's not like the guy's never heard it before.
BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 Sure. What's the worst that can happen? It's not like the guy's never heard it before. Are you serious? Racial slurs are not just trash talk, they can be construed as part of a hate crime in the right context. If an NHL official witnesses a racial slur the player will face a suspension by the league. That's gotta be the best reason I've ever read in support of racism... . I wonder how well your reasoning would work in a debate between current presidential candidates... wingslogo19 281 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 Sure. What's the worst that can happen? It's not like the guy's never heard it before. WOW.. Sorry to inform you, but you just just make racial slurs for the hell of it, or like you said to "throw off the other player".... You just don't use racial slurs, doesn't matter if it's sports or not
Barrie 900 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 Let me say this, out of Tucker and Avery, I'd rather have Tucker on my team. Both are similar type of players, but Tucker doesn't cross the line like Avery does.
Guest jaytan Report post Posted November 14, 2007 Um. What? That's gotta be the best reason I've ever read in support of racism... . I wonder how well your reasoning would work in a debate between current presidential candidates... I didn't say anything in support of racism. What my statement supports is agitating the opponent. You don't have to actually mean what you're saying to say it. Let's say it's Game 7 of the finals and my team's playing the Lightning. If calling Vinny Lecavalier a frog will throw him off at all, you bet I'm going to do it. That doesn't mean I'm racist toward the French, it's just a strategic move. DyingAlive 27 Report post Posted November 15, 2007 For some reason I can stand Avery. Maybe because he's an ex-Wing. But the guy doesn't bother me. He playing hockey and he's good at getting under peoples skins. Always a need for that on the ice.
Grittzkey 1 Report post Posted November 15, 2007 I always liked Avery, even with his dumb remarks. I still hate the fact, We traded him for Lucky Luc.
Guest jaytan Report post Posted November 15, 2007 I would have hated that too. But didn't we trade him for Schneider and get Robataille via free agency earlier that year?
