I am starting to believe you, Lou. :P I am pretty sure it helped to have Cheli back, too.

Healthy scratch, hmmpph! <_<

edit: I've never been a Drake fan, but was willing to give him a chance since he became a Wing. He makes costly mistakes, not quite on Lilja's level, but they're better without him right now.

Glad to have ya on board! Drake's one asset to the team so far has been bringing toughness. Now that thats been taken away because of his injury, he's just bringing nothing to the table. The skill difference in relation to to their respective ice times between him and Downey isnt big enough to warrant him playing injured over Aaron. I mean, if Downey is -6 he'd be run out of town, ...i dont think Drake should get special treatment just for being Dallas Drake!

f*** that game.

You're a fuzzy Little Ball of Hate everyday aren't you.

The Wings are 8-1 with him in the lineup! Where are all the people saying he'd hurt the team is what i wanna know :D

 I am not sure. I know im first though? ahaha

Guess I'll take a number then :P I was surprised that Hank was so quiet this game, but he didn't play badly either: his assist on Datsyuk's goal was nifty to say the least, and missing the SO goal turned out to be a nonfactor. I guess I am just used to him taking shots, scoring goals, and leading the charge every game, but he was more in the background tonight IMO.

Downey has been better than Drake, thats sure. Drake was tried in a more regular role but couldnt hack it. He's a "leadership" passenger on the roster. Nothing else.

Lilja wasn't all bad imo. Lebda and Lilja struggled against the Nash-unit, but overall did an ok-ish job along the boards. Our forwards were teh fail in clearing pucks and turning the play. They just got pinned against the boards or tried some lame poke-pass to get out. The puck ended up center zone in Jacket hands far too much for my liking.

I dont think ive ever rooted for the team to score more in the regular season than that 5 on 3 powerplay  At first i thought Downey was going to the box again because it looked like the ref pointed at him emphatically, but nope! I was worried there for a sec.

This game should be a wake up call to babcock. Like some one needs to scream in his freaking ear and tell him to get a freaking Defencemen.

Kronwall,Lebda played solid. Lids and Raf are cold now, but will break out of it soon. but Cheli and Lilja are not impressing me.

Here's what I thought about the game:

2. Downey and Shelley were teasing me all night with a fight, but it never happened.

3. Lilja looks awful out there, and that dumb penalty he took against Zherdev didn't help. Andreas needs to drop the gloves real soon. He's bloodthirsty.

Even though it didnt happen, the whole tease was entertaining to me though. Every time Downey stepped on the ice i got amped up...that extra dimension really has an effect on the whole game. I'd rather that happen than to have a completely wussified (is that a word?) game with not even a hint of a fight.

At one point, i seen some people on the crowd get on their feet after a Boll/Lilja collision. But im sure that bastard Boll declined ;):D

Watching downey our there today got me excited. i would love for when Drake gets his cage off.for him, Kopecky and Downey to rock the 4th line. because with those 3. It would pay huge dividends during some of our games to have players who put other players in check.

Hudler needs more PT btw. screw Sammy and Franzen.

Hudler had 8 points in 7 games and then he gets a massive 7 minutes of ice-time. That's just plain stupid.

I hope Babs is in Kenny's ear about the lift Downey brings to this team when he's on the ice. If the Wings had other players with a little more of his edge, he wouldn't be so important. But they don't, so he is. Tonight was a good night for Downey. He did things to get Columbus players off their game, and it led to Detroit power plays that turned into goals.

You are correct! Downey is one of a kind on this team, so that makes him extra important. On some other teams, he probably doesnt have this much of an impact. When you look at a team like Columbus, on most nights you probably dont even notice Shelley not in the lineup because they have someone like Boll. I havent gotten a chance to watch much of him, but every time Boll was on the ice you noticed him as well. I really liked what i saw! I think the Wings players really do get a lift from Downey, i mean, if its half as much as what i feel watching him its gotta be good.

It really does. This is what Detroit is missing on their roster.. I don't know the average fans reaction to Downey, but if you polled the city's hockey following I doubt you'd find many people saying "that Downey? he plays too rough a game!" =P

Besides the excitement for watching, the guys on the ice know and will tell you straight up that having a guy like Downey bolsters your roster. Plus he's smart out there too, he hasn't disappointed us yet.

f*** that game. It was too nerve racking. A win is nice, but it sure would be nice to half a blowout ala pretty much every game against the Coyotes last year.

This is perhaps the most spoiled thing I've heard said on these boards in all the time I've been visiting them. Wow. Just wow.

Sometimes this team loses, and sometimes it doesn't win by much. It's about time for you to stop complaining.

Downey has to stay in the lineup at all costs. He is the only player that actually brings energy to this team. His running the goalies, and Jody Shelley, tonight was great! :P

Too bad him and Shelley didn't have a go at it, but I can always hope for next weekend. These two teams meet again, so hopefully there are some fights in that one. :)

A few notes on the game:

- scrappy character win by the Wings

- loved Downey going hard to the net

- the Wings need to upgrade the D. Like I said in a thread yesterday, they miss a guy like Markov BAD

people made too much of the Chicago loss. But what people have to realize is that all these central teams play Detroit so hard. The game last night and today were probably the best games Chicago and Columbus played all year. Detroit could have won both. Good times lay ahead. But the roster should be tweaked a bit.

I loved the game...thought it was exciting. I thought it was the best game of the year so far.

When Ozzie is in net, Columbus always goes to the shootout, and Sergei is always head to head with him and it drives me crazy..haha.

Oh, I wanted to mention, I was very happy that Franzen scored in the shootout because I was feeling like he needed a goal and didn't get one. So I was happy about that.

Huddles needs more play. How's he gonna get his 30 goals? :)

Erm..40 shots. It's been a lot of days since we've seen 40 shots on one of our goalies. Ah...the good old days...sorta.

I dunno, it was just exciting to me...sometimes I just hate that Rick Nash..grr...*hates* haha. He can be too good.

I agree about the game. I definitely think it was the best so far this season as well. It was nerve wrecking as heck, and made my pulse sky rocket, but that's what made it so fun. Edge of your seat game and not knowing whats going to happen.

I'm so happy for Ozzie! 4 goals against and still a save percentage of 90! I thought he played really, really well.

As for Feds and Oz. Haha I've noticed that trend. The very first shootout the Bj's and Wings had against each other, Ozzie saved the day against Feds. The next Feds scored on Ozzie and won the game for Jackets, and now Ozzie gets Sergei back and makes a big save. *I know it wasn't really down to Feds against Oz tonight* but it's always back and forth between those two as in who's going to come out the winner and own the other one. lol

Huds is doing fantabulous and he needs more ice time!!

Check out my sig,you said that if he gets injured/traded or benched, then he might not make it.

There's nothing there about him playing only 7 minutes/game. :hehe:

I agree,it was a good hockey game.

He really is. I remember Willy 29 back in the day really bagging on Nash, saying he was overrated and scored all his goals the cheap way. Like he wasn't really that talented. I'd never heard anyone say those kinds of things about him, and I wondered what he was talking about. At the time, Nash did have a really strange goals to assists ratio, but on that team, he was really on the ice for one reason and one reason only, to score.

Looking back now, those criticisms were ridiculous. The guy is a hell of a player.

I know...everytime I see your sig I am reminded.

I sort of assumed all of this thinking he'd be on the second line...not all weirdly demoted for no reason. He's still done well though. I hope Babs figures it all out and gets him to play more.

ERM, he also scored 2 shootout goals. I never said WHEN he had to score these 30 goals :P
