True, but if you want to play that card than Crosby's gloves didn't come off until he flung Ferrence's helmet off, all while he kept his lid on.

I'm not saying it wasn't cool to see him stand up for himself, it just wasn't that great of a bout and if this was anyone other than Crosby no one would care about this fight.

In fact, they'd probably be ripping anyone else in the league had they left their lid (w/ visor) and gloves on during a bout.

Mac, this time i'm going to have to disagree with where you're going here. I too agree that the fight in and of itself was nothing.

However, given the abuse he's been taking recently I give him props for finally letting it go.

As for nitpicking the helmet, gloves on, visor stuff. You've seen enough fights. Given the combatants there's strong reason to believe it went down the way it went down for good reasons.

1. When has sid ever dropped the gloves? He hasn't. There'll probably never be a time when he just squares up and drops them with somebody.

2. How many times has the person going at it in a scuffle with Sid just tossed his gloves off and started firing? Never. Because everyone in the league knows he isn't going to fight. You wouldn't just drop you mits and start hauling off on Z or Dats? Same thing.

They were shoving and getting the fists up high and it just went that one extra step that it never has before between Crosby and another player. That was uncharted territory and I don't think either combatant was really going into that wanting a true, bare knuckle fight.

By the way, Drake has his shield on too the other night. I saw Iginla dropping bombs with his on as well not too long ago. You can't just watch a fight and say oh, he has his visor on what a punk. You have to look at the extenuating circumstances.

As did I. See bolded comments.

That's the thing, I'm not nitpicking. That's why I said the following:

When it comes to skill players, I totally understand the need to protect yourself. When its the TooToo's and Laraque's Brashear's of the league, not so much. However, when its someone like Iginla, it makes more sense.

Again, I gave my due props and said it was great that he stood up for himself. I was just referring to the *quality* (which I suppose is to be expected) of the fight.

Never once have I done that.

Amazing to see a guy like Sid drop the gloves. Shows alot of heart. Sid got the edge in this fight. Didn't land anything square to Ferrence's face, but Sid did land a real hard body shot. And looked like the stronger guy. Nice job to Sid the kid.

I got it. It must've misinterpreted the overall gist of what you were saying. I agree wholly, the fight was nothing and it is being made a big deal of. Of course if Dats dropped 'em too we'd be going freaking crazy. Well, unless of course he got KO'd like Woolley did against Darcy Tucker. Ugghhh.....what was he thinking?

I don't understand why you would keep trying to discredit this fight. I would be willing to say half of hockey fights start from pushing and shoving with gloves on, so you could post a picture of any pre-fight scrum, and the guys would still have the gloves on. I could post a picture taken 10 seconds after that one, and there gloves would be off. Saying it wasn't a legit fight is just wrong.

As for the helmet and visor thing - both guys had them on because neither are fighters - so in my opinion, its pretty even. Its not like Crosby purposely kept it on, nor does that make him a '*****'. At what point during that fight would he have stopped and taken it off? Iginla wears a visor and fights, and I don't hear people bitching about him. And sure, if it was anyone else in the league no one would care. But - its Crosby, and everyone does care because;1. He is one of the best, if not the best player in the league. 2. He has never fought before.

Why shouldn't we be talking about this? It was fricking AMAZING to see him fight!

Trying to discredit Crosby, or this fight is just pointless. All positives to Sid the Kid for this one.

We would be just as excited to see Zetterberg drop 'em.

I know this is nitpicky, but Ference does drop the gloves. He's no heavyweight, but he's fought at least once, usually more than that, pretty much every season he's been in the NHL. And he's been around a lot longer, too. He obviously knows how it's done. This is a case of Ference being in Crosby's face all night up to that point, Crosby taking exception, and doing what he needed to do with a guy much his superior in NHL and fighting experience, much his subordinate with regards to fame and skill.

By the way, this wasn't the worst fight of the game: the worst one was between Laraque and Chara. Go figure.

Agreed. Ference isnt a good fighter by any means, but this isnt like Crosby decided to drop the gloves only because it was someone like...i dont know.... Marc Savard. Ference does have some NHL fighting experience under his belt, albeit not a whole lot, but he's still went with the likes of Barnaby and was the decisive favorite going in. In all actuality, he should and probably is, a bit embarrassed over this.

What did you expect? Both those guys are terrified of losing. At the first sign of trouble in a fight, they just tackle the other guy down, or in Chara's case he just slips mysteriously. I'm so tired of this ******* giraffe. He'll never lose a fight in the league so long as he keeps falling down quickly when the other guy starts actually doing something against him.

You know, I doubt it. I think everyone that has played against Crosby realizes how strong he is. I think his strength is very underrated amongst the general public.

That was a real fight, and great to see. I've never disliked Crosby, but now he's definitely winning me over as a fan.

I was mentioning the same thing on another forum Izzy. Crosby is way too "pristine" for me to like, but if he showed some toughness more often?

He'd suddenly be a little more interesting to see.

Pretty decent, quick fight. Crosby got a good 3 punches in to start with his gloves still on, which is pretty Busch league, but after that it was a good scrap. But as all good things with hockey surrounding the Kid, the media made it out to be a damn hockey revolution, thus ruining the small moment for me. Watching PTI on ESPN yesterday, one topic was literally who had the biggest night Gaborik with 5 goals and an assist in a game, or Crosby with a fight (didn't even mention it being a GHHT, just cared about the fight). Thank god both guys picked Gaboriks 5g-6pt night as the better of the two, but its just another example of how the media has killed Crosby for me...
