interminded 1 Report post Posted January 1, 2008 Very nice read about how to act as a complete A-hole and annoy the hell out of your teammates. Furthermore, Ozzie is set as an example on how to be a good backup goalie, which is kind of a nice compliment I think. Emery's sick of sitting and the Senators are suffering

puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted January 1, 2008 Those of us who were not impressed by Emery's pimp act and posturing knew this was likely. Gerber has shown that he can take the crap from fans and the coach in Ottawa, along with a stretch of bad luck last season, and rise above it. Emery is showing his true character now. Not to say he isn't talented, but it takes more than ability to be a consistent #1 in the NHL. Ozzie's not a back-up in my mind, he's Dom's "partner in crime." Dom's been patient and a great team player with the Wings. He works his butt off every day to play his best. The person who allows that to happen at this stage in Hasek's career is Ozzie, just by being who he is. However things turn out this season, both men have done their best for the Wings and that's all we can ask, IMO. Detroit is hard on its goalies. But Ottawa gives us a run for our money on that front, and that's a fact. Ask Lalime.

Detroit is much harder on goalies than Ottawa; Detroit has crucified Osgood, Hasek, Joseph, and Vernon while they were playing amazing for not being better. Ottawa ran Lalime out of town after through several playoff seasons he was unable to come up with the clutch saves his team needed; think about Manny Legace in Detroit. Lalime was probably better overall than Manny in the playoffs, but had the same issue where he would fold when his team needed him to stand strong. That's something that was a rarity with the first four guys I mentioned.

There will be people in here who remind us of every loss or goal allowed, even when the goalies win -- they can't win 'good enough' for some. a little more on Ozzie as a Wing forever

But he's always talking about those numbers he wants to reach which I think is great. I don't think it's wrong or selfish at all to have goals in life and these goals are the reason he's worked so hard to up his game so he could play as well as he has. He's got the best record, the best GAA and the best Sv% right now. He's obviously got a lot of character to be putting up those numbers b/c most goalies wouldn't work hard enough to be able to play that well now and furthermore, he does it all with more grace and ease than just about anyone. His attitude, goals, work ethic and numbers are really forcing the hockey world over to drop there act, as in... "What long goals?"

SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted January 1, 2008 (edited) Two of the toughest positions in all of sports....Red Wings goaltender and Lions QB. Only to the fans because they talk about those two things. Way. Too. Damned. Much. and overanalyze Every. Single. Little. Thing. They. Do. to the point to where it makes me want to take a heated iron and continuously press it on my face until the skin almost completely comes off. Because honestly, that's probably more bearable than reading and trying to take in some of the most ridiculous crap I hear about both of the current Red Wings goalies, or all Red Wings goalies, or just goaltending overall. I don't pay much attention to Lions football but if fans would just not even talk about Red Wings goaltenders, or even goaltending in general, they'd live at least 5-10 years longer. I know I definitely have a lot less ulcers avoiding tending talk for the most part. Yeah I know, that takes the fun out of things, but what can I say, I'm a boring dull dud. *shrugs* Edited January 1, 2008 by SouthernWingsFan
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted January 1, 2008 Talk about cancer in more than one way. Seriously, these are the types of guys you don't want on your team because of the focus that gets taken away from the job at hand. It's bad enough that his teammates aren't able to get in extra practice shots on him when Gerber takes off, but now the team isn't even thinking about the job at hand, and rather their tantrum-throwing backup. Thanks Ozzie for always being the guy you are regardless of the tag that put on you! You're number 1 in my book.
