1/5 GDT: Red Wings 3, Stars 0

Dom's early-season slump is officially history. He's the biggest reason the Wings won.

Not quite as dominating a performance as the last game, I think. Dallas was better both offensively and defensively than they were on Wednesday. And it didn't even matter.

Another proposed rule change.. no icing if you're at any disadvantage at all.. Calling icings when the other team pulls their goalie for an extra forward is stupid.

Nice win, glad we pulled it through. I feel we didn't play our best, but it could have just been Dallas proving they are a good team.

Looking forward to the game tomorrow.. Lets hope for a win

I didn't think the Wings would pull this one out when they failed to convert the 5 on 3. It had the look of one of those games where they start out strong but let the other team back in and then can't get it back. Credit Hasek, who played lights out, for stealing this one. And that brutal 2nd goal Smith let in was the backbreaker.

Totally disagree with this one. It makes the defense play defense instead of just randomly slinging it down the ice hoping for the empty-netter. Get rid of icing with the empty net and that would be the end of that tactic - no dramatic late-game comebacks. And it would have the domino effect of making teams sit on one-goal leads longer, since they wouldn't have to worry if the other team pulls the goalie. I promise, you'll like the rule better when the Wings have to pull their goalie instead.

The only problem with that is that it makes it so much easier for the team to score an empty net goal with no fear of icing the puck.

My broadcast started an hour late.

But it was a good game and the Swedish analysts had Kenny as their guest, which was a huge bonus.

He was interviewed between periods, they asked him about the game & the usual questions about the Wings -good stuff.

A few worth mentioning:

First off Kenny called Calle Johansson(yeah that guy that used to play in Washington, one of the studio analysts) as Kelly.

He had been watching Djurgardens game earlier in the day,was excited about Larsson & Axelsson.

Kenny said how much he admires the New England Patriots, how they are successful year after year. That's exactly what he's trying to do in Detroit.

Suddenly he was asked: "Sundin or Forsberg in Detroit?"

Kenny replied he can't really talk about other teams players.

But the interviewer didn't give up and asked : "Which one would you choose?"

The answer was quick,"They are both really good players". :hehe:

well, we were really lucky to win this game, hope to see some more offensive effort from the guys against Chicago.

Anyhow, yet another win for the Reds :)

Beating a team 3-0 isn't lucky!! We may have not played our best game but we got another win. Luck my friend is what s***ty teams need to win! Oh and about the offensive effort, we only need one goal if no one can score on us!! SEND IT!!

So, no icing when the Wings have Sammy on the ice, right? :P

Sorry, couldn't resist! I actually don't mind Sammy.

Where is the disadvantage? 6 men each.

No man advantage means icing rule remains in effect.

Thanks for the criticism. I didn't think of those things :(.. it is really annoying though to do an honest clear, and be called when the other team has a man advantage...

Yeah, the whole icing the puck when there is an empty net has to stay....although, maybe you could throw in a rule saying a goalie can shoot it down and have it not be icing? I don't know about you all but if goalies are takin shots down the ice, I'd love to see that.

Nope. Downey will more than likely be sitting alot after today, unless other injuries happen.

How the hell is Ribeiro one of the three stars for this game? The Stars lost 3 - 0? Someone please explain, because I didn't have a goal or an assist either so why can't I be the third star? And Dom with a shutout and no star?

Wings vs. Stars Box Score

Homers!

esteef

Dunno, my guess is Hasek didn't face enough shots or enough "quality" chances, however who judges quality deems that, or Ribeiro might just be a popular guy to pick or something. Not to take away from Hasek's performance at all because he was very solid. I don't really get all that worked up on 3-game star picks or snubs though, doesn't really matter to me.

Anyways I took a quick and inexpensive flight to Dallas yesterday morning and made a day of it hanging out there catching the Wings game at American Airlines Arena and catching up with a few friends from college (went to school in nearby Fort Worth). Not the first time I've been in the arena, I actually prefer where they used to play in old Reunion Arena. It's definitely nicer/more modern than Reuinon, but I liked the basic bowl shape of Reunion and that place could get really loud, really quick.

Wasn't really a pretty game, more of a grind-it-out sluggish event, but I don't really care if the Wings win 9-5 or 2-1, they still won. I'm not really a rah-rah cheery kinda person or one that yells his lungs out at games, but it was hard to intially get into the game, even after the 1st goal. It just seemed to take forever for both teams to get to full speed.

Nevertheless, overall it was a great team effort where pretty much every player on the ice played a solid game and the Wings really had very few errors at all (other than a giveaway on a PP). Dallas is a struggling team right now from what it seems but it's still nice to know that you pretty much came close to dominating the 2nd best team in your conference.

The game was also cool for me because I bought a ticket in the upper deck for only $15 b/f shipping/handling, but I chatted with puckloo39 for a few minutes before the game started where they were sitting and the people that were supposed to sit next to them never showed, so I sat probably 15 rows from ice level near center ice. Game 'twas also good because I've never seen a shutout by the Wings and I know she was happy to see her favorite player perform well.
