toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 West's first line is sooo much better than East's When you said first line, I thought you meant forwards, which I would question you since the East forward line has "arguably" the 2 best forwards in the game. I'm assuming you are referring to the entire starting lineup, including defense and goalie, in which case I would agree. The West's defense and goalie are quite a bit better. toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 Where the hell is Ilya Kovalchuk and Alex Ovechkin for the East? I wouldn't pick either over Crosby or Lecavalier, so they both couldn't get there in my opinion anyway. Also, Alfie is 5th in scoring this year, it isn't a complete joke that he was voted in. Doesn't really matter, both Ilya and Alex will be in the lineup.

lfd250 1 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 Crosby = Gretzky = Over rated. Sorry folks Crosby hasn't done much to impress me. You hear about him all the time because he is the Chosen One to lead the NHL. Because he's Canadian. That's all. I think our 2 boys are way better. The reason they haven't been picked is because we're in the Western Division. No east coast (the hockey bed of the US) exposure. Of course they're going to promote Crosby he's in their face every game. Oh and yes I'm biassed.
lets go pavel 2 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 If I heard correctly, the back ups are named tonight on VERSUS during the Detroit/Colorado game. nope ... from espn.com: "Western Conference reserves, chosen by the NHL's hockey operations department along with general managers, will be announced Thursday. The rest of the Eastern Conference roster will be revealed Friday." http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=3186274

toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 Kovalchuk has 34 goals. Yeah, and all three forwards selected ahead of him have a better ppg stat and far better +/-. It's not all about who scores the most goals.

Of course they're going to promote Crosby he's in their face every game. Oh and yes I'm biassed. Yes, the reason our guys, Datsyuk and Zetterberg, haven't been picked to start for the Eastern Conference ahead of Crosby is East Coast bias. For some reason Eastern voters refused to put Western Conference players on their team. And if Crosby doesn't impress you, then you'll never be impressed. Name someone else who scored 120 points and won the Art Ross as a teenager. Yeah, it's because he's Canadian that he gets attention

Yeah, it's because he's Canadian that he gets attention Or how about this: Crosby is well on his way to another 100 pt season. Name me all the players who had 3 100 pt. seasons under their belts before their 21st birthdays like Crosby should by the end of the year. I haven't gone and done any research, but if I had to guess, I think Crosby will be the only guy on that list.
WhiteLightning91 105 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 The West's defense and goalie are quite a bit better. Defense? OK. I agree with you on that one. But the West's goaltending is quite a bit better than the East's as well? Luongo is the better goalie to build a team around but when it comes down to who I want in my net at the end of the day, Marty prevails. I would say the goaltending is about as evenly matched as it can get; The best goalie of this generation vs. the best goalie of the next generation.
akustyk 84 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 it's beyond me why this crappy popularity contest is scooping so much attention. does it win you anything valuable? or is there anything interesting in a game that is clearly about showing dumb tricks and making hockey-playing kids pee? I mean... I'd rather see Hank and Pavel have some rest than taking part in All Star Game. speaking of starters... in the East there were better choices than Alfredson. not to take anything from him as role player, but his not the flashies and most skilled guy left out there - read: where are Ovechkin and Kovalchuk. and Phaneuf... puhlease... I guess it was about voting according to media hype not logic. this guy hasn't done much in his career to prove he's worth the hype not to mention he was invisible in playoffs. but of course, it's Canadian fans and their firm belief whoever played for their team is the second coming of Jesus Christ. HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 Did anyone else shudder when they saw Iginla's name with Dats and Hank? But I must agree, the West's starting lineup is pretty sweet. Nope. That's one sick starting line. I obviously lost respect for Jarome last season in the playoffs which is unfortunate because he used to be my absolute fave outside the Wings, but even with that no one can deny how great of a player he is. I can't wait to see 'em play together.

up2here 41 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 Yeah, and all three forwards selected ahead of him have a better ppg stat and far better +/-. It's not all about who scores the most goals. Kovalchuk also has more points than Crosby and has been the most dynamic offensive player in the league. Thats what the all star game is about. I think the voters got it wrong in the East.
