Columbus will probably want to ship him out for picks and prospects but he does have a no-trade clause so he could veto a trade to the Wings even if we tried to acquire him. I know full well the history and bad blood that existed between he and the Wings when he was with the Dive's but most of the players he scrapped with back then are gone now so maybe he wouldn't mind coming over here at the deadline and making a run at the cup. I think he would be an upgrade over Lilja on the second pairing and he has LOADS of playoff experience and is a serious physical presence as well. Lilja is a turnover (blueberry, lol) waiting to happen and could be bumped down to the third pairing to limit his ice time or even scratched. Would you want him? Would he consent to play here? In theory, he has a lot of the qualities I'd want in a deadline acquisition despite his age, but I still don't want him, because I don't like him. It's the same way I feal about Floppa coming here. I agree, he is, like it or not, exactly the type of defensemen Detroit is looking for and needs. Whether he would be willing to come to the wings is a good question, I have not seen one of the old AV's from the rivalry days come to the wings, it could be Detroit doesn't want them or they don't want to come. Personally, I feel that old rivalry has largely subsided and should be a non-issue now, I say sign him, but only if he really wants to come to Detroit. Its amazing how many Wing's fans would take a healthy Foppa, he was on AV's at that time too, and not want Foote. He is consistent as heal, hits hard, and isn't afraid to mix it up. He was honestly probably one of the players I hated most in all the NHL. And just as an excuse to use the new video feature.... Foote is one of the meanest, most sadistic f**ks in hockey, he will tear your face off for a cup, that's exactly what this team needs. Not categorizing anyone, did wing's management want him?, coach?, in numerous articles it was mentioned how numerous wing's fans wouldn't mind his presence on the wings....he is swedish.. big physical wing, puck-handler and scorer, but his health is always mentioned as a catch. I guess your question needs clarification, at least for me, on this forum I have seen mixed emotions about him, if that is what you are driving at. Why take it personally, it is not personal at all. I didn't like Chelios much either back in the day because I thought he ranted and whined to much on the ice. Guess what, he still does that sometimes. I'd love for the Wings to take people that are normally supposed to be hated as an unwritten rule if they could help the team and not cost them much and remain under the salary cap (i.e. Iginla, Pronger, Foote, etc.). Hyopthetically speaking of course, I know there's not a snowball's chance in hell we'd probably get Iginia or Pronger. Getting personal feelings with somebody in the way of them possibly helping the Wings out just seems silly to me, although I definitely understand where/why the dislike results. That being said, I'd be for getting Foote here if it makes sense money wise and he's not under contract for that long due to him being in his latter years I am assuming. But I was admitting that I haven't seen him play a lot recently so I can't say for certain if his game is still at the level it used to be, or if it's been affected by age/injuries.
