thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted January 17, 2008 Iginla over Lidstrom? Are you freaking kidding me? It's not liek they are playing in Calgary. I don't get it.

arnoldbuck 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2008 As with many, I'll just say I am very suprised. Iggy is an awesome talent, and solid leader. But the league knows strongly now everything Nick brings to the Ice. He should have been the Captain hands down.
wingnut40 176 Report post Posted January 17, 2008 No Nickidge? Are you kidding me?!?!?1 That's total bull that they wouldn't pick Nick. I mean, it's not like he's the best player in the world or anything. And he totaly didn't get the most votes right?

YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted January 17, 2008 FYI, the league uses Iggy to promote NHL "diversity" every chance they get.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted January 17, 2008 Both captains are on my fantasy team this year. So is Lidstrom
Flip-check 6 Report post Posted January 17, 2008 How are the captains even chosen? With Iginla picked (period), I wonder too. At least we'll have a chance for some action at the ASG. Maybe he'll start picking a fight with Vinny if the West is down late in the third?
lets go pavel 2 Report post Posted January 17, 2008 i don't know, i'm not really surprised ... the guy is having a great year, he's been carrying his team most of the year, and on ice his captaincy is arguably more visible/vocal than lidstrom's ... don't get me wrong, i'm not saying he's more deserving, just that it would have been a good choice either way, and it's certainly no slight to Lidstrom that Iginla got it ... now if someone like Pronger had been given the C i'd be pissed ... b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted January 17, 2008 wow..... thats some bulls***.... someone needs to show the guy in charge of this decision Lidstrom's 5 Norris Trophies and class and Game 5 of the first round of last years Wings-Flames series, among other Iginla pissing matches... ridiculus... And Lecavlier over Alfreidson? Does this go to show how little respect European players are given?
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted January 17, 2008 At least it's Iggy over Lidstrom. I mean it should have been Nick, but if anyone were to take it besides him, Iggy would have been the choice. I'm suprised with Vinny though... He's a horrible leader.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 17, 2008 Iginla is more marketable for the league, so I'm not surprised. If Crosby wasn't so young, he'd probably be the East captain.

I am really surprised they didn't try to exploit Crosby as a captain. Like, really.
Turkey 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2008 Not surprised by the choice of Iginla. By all accounts, he's one of the best leaders in the game today. I just want to see what he looks like playing w/ D and Z.
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted January 18, 2008 Not surprised by Iginla at all, he has been a captain for longer than Lids. Either would have been a good choice. I am surprised by Vinny, he isn't exactly known as a great leader and he isn't even the captain of his team.
stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted January 18, 2008 How are the captains even chosen? [sarcasm]they pick two Canadian born players.[/sarcasm] in all honesty though, this is a horrible snub - Nick is having a Norris AND MVP year and is one of the best leaders in the game... edicius 3,269 Report post Posted January 18, 2008 I couldn't figure this out either. And I'm also amazed that the league didn't name Crosby as captain/both alternates/Jesus of the East.

And Lecavlier over Alfreidson? Does this go to show how little respect European players are given? HAHAHA, I didn't even have to open this thread to know this would be a total ***** fest. Only Redwings fans can be such pompous assbags. So what if Iggy is the captain. You know how many times Yzerman was not named Captain of an all star team or a world cup team or an olympic team? And he's arguably the greatest captain ever. Only Wings fans would whine and ***** so much about something so trivial. The captain of the ASG? Are you freaking kidding me? That means what? It barely means anything at all. When they look back at a player's career they count ASG appearances and selections, not how many times you were voted captain. Whoever the captains are are meaningless when it comes to the ASG. There are like zero decisions to make. Babs will setup the lines and the players will have fun with it and do their thing. Iggy isn't going to be out there arguing calls and trying to be a leader anymore than anyone else. PS: I haven't been posting much so thank you guys for whining about this. I needed to see some idiocy this morning to get me going. Gracias!

Absolutely agree. Naming another player captain doesn't mean Lidstrom is less of anything. ASG captain is purely symbolic, there's no real substance behind that. I'm sure its a nice thing if you're the player, something to hang your hat on maybe or feel good about. But its hardly an indicator that you are a better or worse leader than the next guy. Creasemonkey 30 Report post Posted January 18, 2008 Considering we have four players in the game (and if I overheard correctly during the game last night, Osgood is starting too?) maybe the league thought the Red Wing lovefest had gone on long enough and tossed Iggy a bone. Who knows.
