Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted January 29, 2008 The Chicago Blackhawks put forward David Koci on waivers on Monday. Well..he could be alternative to Downey. He can fight against heavyweights. I wouldn't mind if Kenny bring him in.
skacore 2 Report post Posted January 29, 2008 not a fan of Koci... he's just a big goon who is an average heavyweight and no way could he take over Downey's minutes, as limited as they may be
WhiteLightning91 105 Report post Posted January 29, 2008 (edited) Downey is the only fighter the Wings will ever bring in because of his discipline. He never gets into a fight for no reason and he stays out of the penalty box when he is on the ice. The Wings all really seem to like Downey quite well also. Everyone on this team never has anything but positives to say about his personality and work ethic. He is a Babcock type player. Guest Canadian Wings Report post Posted January 29, 2008 Koci gets his ass kicked in every fight he's in. Plus, to replace Downey are u high? No thanks.
Turkey 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2008 I was amazed as everyone else when Koci demonstrated his patented "Amazing Exploding Nose Trick" but I don't really think it's something our team is missing.
Grittzkey 1 Report post Posted January 29, 2008 (edited) Yes Please. Koci has only got his asskicked once, and that was by Chara, Parros gave him a kinda but whooping, but other than that, he pretty much either won or draw'd his other 6 fights. And he is a defencmen if i remember right, Wouldnt mind having him be our reserve D, and trying to dump Meech for a late round pick, or a low teir prospect or something. GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 29, 2008 I would love for us to have Koci. He's young, willing, and is a great scrapper. His problem is that he isn't the most defensive fighter, so longevity might be a question due to injuries, but he's a way better fighter than Downey. As for the Chara fight, Koci was fighting with a broken nose before the fight even began, which is why Chara drew blood. It's also amazing how some of you who are now in love with Downey didn't want him to do anything with this team before the season began. You guys are such flip-floppers. I couldn't believe how big the "anti-Downey" crowd was around here at the time. Now, *most* everybody wants him to stay. Amazing, isn't it? As for Koci: I really don't think much of him, and my general consensus is he's very overrated. He has good size, but his fighting capabilities are about on par with Brad Norton (ok, maybe not that bad, but you know what I mean). I like that he's willing, but he hasn't had a real good showing at all this season. He's not getting wasted by other fighters, but he's not winning either. Plus, he's a terrible hockey player. If the Wings were to have a heavyweight, I'd rather it be someone like McGrattan. Koci really doesn't impress me at all, since he's a sub-par fighter, and he's awful at everything else. I honestly can't believe Chicago had him at defense of all positions, since he makes Scott Parker look like an olympic speedskater. Honestly, I like Downey better. Downey can handle more minutes, not be a detrement to the team, and fights just about as much as Koci does anyways. Downey is a better fit on this team, and he's who I'd rather have. Koci has held his own against some top heavyweights, which is more than Downey could do. As for his playing abilities, they are poor, but I'm not looking for skills from an enforcer. Not every enforcer can be as skilled as Lilja.

I know what you mean as far as the skills aspect goes, but if the Wings were to have a one-dimensional heavyweight on the team, I'd rather have it be someone like McGrattan, or whomever else is rumored to be available. I still don't view Koci in the light of a very good fighter, but that's just my opinion. Edited January 30, 2008 by Kp-Wings
puckbags 863 Report post Posted January 30, 2008 There is a reason Koci is on waivers...he's a garbage hockey player who isn't good enough to keep a job in the NHL. End of story!!
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted January 30, 2008 Koci is without a doubt a better fighter than Downey....but theres no way in hell we claim him. Wont be as disciplined, and there is zero chance he'd ever play D for us.

GoalieManPat 1,007 Report post Posted January 31, 2008 Why would the wings want to pickup someone that cant play with the Blackhawks? Everyone here is always looking for a reason to pickup someone new. What if picking up his salary later on down the road effects what the Wings can do at the trade deadline? Are his two minutes every three games worth it then? If the guy is in no way gonna be a final piece to a championship run then dont do a thing. He would be a healthy scratch every playoff game. And in the odd chance someone gets hurt this guy in no way helps the team.
