Guest Canadian Wings Report post Posted February 6, 2008 He'd be a nice addition thats for sure. But by no means, all we need all we need to add to our forward crop. maybe another depth/gritt guy but then who are we going to sit for him? drake, downey? i know we need another defencemen thats for sure. jokinen is signed for 2 more yrs at 5 mill which is a steal. he brings everything to the table. MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 Florida would be wise to trade this guy over the summer when more teams will be able to get into a bidding war for him.
Zeta Power 40 1 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 Would do you guys think Florida would want? I don't really wanna give them another prospect after last seasons deadline trade for Bertuzzi?
Opie 308 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 Florida would be wise to trade this guy over the summer when more teams will be able to get into a bidding war for him. Exactly, like in the NFL (similar salary cap), you will see trade deadline deals come to a slow (maybe not as severe due to length of season). Because of what you mentioned, plus teams will need to keep room for the next season (tagging). So signing a guy who has a contract will become a little tougher. IMO the smarter GM's are the ones who make the Bert or Calder type deals from last year. It is relatively risk free with potentially high reward. Trades that involve Rolston, Ryder, Sammy, Calder, Williams, secondary type players will continue to happen at the deadline where as big name acquisitions will more or less be a thing of the past, with one or two exceptions a year. As opposed to the fire sales we as fans are used to seeing.
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 Would do you guys think Florida would want? I don't really wanna give them another prospect after last seasons deadline trade for Bertuzzi? A LOT more than what you gave them for Bertuzzi. Jokinen isn't a rental, he's going to have a huge price tag.

Lilja and Sammy. Florida has missed those 2 guys ever since they left. And now they'll be back, new and improved.
Rice 42 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 Jokinen is a guy I wouldn't have a problem trading Filppula for.
Turretin 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 He would be awesome, but too expensive. I think if we can get the Swedish kid Brunnstrom, then get Jokinen, we could trade Franzen, Hudler, and a pick.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 For Jokinen? My guess would be something like Kronwall + Filppula + maybe picks and prospects.
DRAPES RULES 7 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 I say "No Way" on trading Filps. He just keeps getting better and better. In two years he will be like Zetty.
Guest Crymson Report post Posted February 6, 2008 (edited) Gee, great--another OP who can't understand the difference between 'want' and 'need.' In what way do we NEED Jokinen? Do you realize that the team we have right now is the best in the league by leaps and bounds? Do we need Jokinen? No. Would we have to give up a lot to get him? Yes. Is there any reason to break up the best team in the league and sell the farm in order to pick up Jokinen? No. Get it now? Suck it up and stop being such a spoiled fan. Fans of every other team in the league would kill to have their teams be where the Wings are right now, and they'd scratch their heads in wonder at those here who are griping and complaining about how we absolutely need to add more talent at the deadline. On another note: Holland will NOT make a big deadline deal this year. He would laugh at the prospect of doing so just as I do here. There is simply no need, and those of you who expect one need to get it through your heads that, in the cap era, the best team in the league.. does.. not.. make.. blockbuster.. deals!!! It's simple logic. The days when we could add firepower at the deadline just for the hell of it and then buy back over the offseason the equivalent or more of what we'd lost in the deal are over. Get over it! Edited February 6, 2008 by Crymson

While all of the regular season success is great, in the long run no one will remember what happened this SEASON. The POST-SEASON is what we will remember. Without a Cup, who cares about if we get 62 wins. Being the #1 seed means NOTHING, and we know this better than anyone in sports. I want a player that will put us over the top. Jokinen MAY be that player. Jokinen is a forward who can drive the net through traffic. We NEEDED that against Anaheim and will NEED it again this year. Right now, we are small and Anaheim is big. We need to get bigger up front. Hudler and Flip, while great playmakers and have good offensive instincts, are NOT EVEN CLOSE to Jokinen. With a big player like Jokinen and a cannon (Blake) at the point on the 2nd PP unit, Wings > Ducks even with Selanne, Niedermayer, and Forsberg.

You realize that none of these players will likely wind up where you're putting them? Has Forsberg already signed with the Ducks or something? And I thought that Blake was hurt? We are already better than Anaheim. I don't know why I see this constant defeatism here, i.e. "we can't stand in a seven-game series against San Jose or Anaheim." This team is one of the best in the league every season, and people are continually defensively pessimistic anyway. It's pathetic. This is, of course, besides the fact that you are utterly detached from reality if you think we can pick up Jokinen anyway. The Panthers are in playoff contention this year and they want to have a chance next year and they have Jokinen for a great price for both seasons and he's one of the better players in the league. If he is moved, it will be next year, unless we offer up some utterly outrageous price that they can't refuse. It's not happening, but people don't really think about that here, probably because they were spoiled by a decade of juicy deadline acquisitions. So sorry, but those days are past. Beyond that, thanks for proving my point in saying with your piece about Hudler and Filppula. I imagine you're pitching them for a trade for Jokinen. Guess what---since they're avowedly below Jokinen's value, Florida won't bite on that trade. Reality, please. Edited February 7, 2008 by Crymson
