Mudvayneowns91 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 The Ducks game proved that Schnider>Rafalski so adding another defenseman would be a wise move. From the Blues, Jackman is available as he is an UFA after this season and is looking to test the market. This would be absolutely perfect for Detroit but I doubt St. Louis deals him within the division. You really believe that? I think we need some more depth in D, but Schneider better than Rafs? But I would definitely want Jackman. I've said the same thing about trading to rivals, but it has been known to happen between the Blues and Wings before. blues_demitra38 11 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Schneider is not a better defenseman than Rafalski. He sure is. Rafalski seems like he is overrated a little bit. He seems to only thrive with Lidstrom and can't be left on his own. In that case, he is vastly overvalued because Lidstrom makes just about anyone he plays with a pretty good player. Schnieder held his own last without Lidstrom and was more defensively responsible that Rafalski.

If anything, I felt Schneider was more of a defensive liability because of how much of an offensive style he has. I remember tons of times when he made a stupid pinch and cost us the goal. Yeah, Schneider scored against us. So what? That's saying next to nothing.

Detroit and Carolina (likely) won't trade with each other because of the bad blood between Illitch and Karmanos. Remember the Fedorov offer sheet? It sucks too, because the two teams would be good trading partners. Edited February 12, 2008 by ARice89

theman19 47 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 another awful awful trade for jim ruthford. The Jack Johnson deal was bad enough, tim gleason has sucked big time since coming to carolina. Cory Stillman in my mind was the heart and soul of this hockey club (him and brindamour) when Cory went down last season Carolina just wasn't the same. He's been a point per game player this year, but because Carolina doesn't have a good PP guy suddenly they throw the team at Joe FReaking Corvo? Don't get it,..really don't. Especially not considering Mike Commadore is one of the most popular canes players among the fans. In a city that's been heavily critized with the way the people interact with the hockey team, it doesn't strike me as good business to trade two very popular players. Although the general idea around Raleigh is that Commadore is just a rental. Stillman however, looks to be avaliable to the highest bidder next season, i would absoutly crap my pants if we got a hold of him in the offseason. Another reason this deal just flabbergast me is the fact that Carolina already has like 3 Eaves on the roster,...young, fast, skill players who have a lot of hype but haven't produced due to injures. Why not trade one of them? Andrew Ladd, 4th pick in the 04 draft,...hasn't done much of anything, why a playoff dynmo for a kid who has really not lived up to potential? GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 I don't know why Carolina chooses to go after offensive minded players like Corvo, and get rid of defensive minded players like Commodore. They have too much of that as it is.

This is the one point I disagree with you on. While Gleason isn't the offensive force he was expected to be, he's a hard nosed player that all teams love to have on their blueline. I'd love it if the Wings got Gleason somehow (he's also a Michigan native), but since it's Carolina we're talking about, I don't see it happening. The rest I agree with you on, though. Rutherford is the most overrated GM in the league. The guy really get's his coattails curled from the rest of the league, and it's just ridiculous sometimes the compliments this guy get's. He's not that great of a GM.
