Now despite the fact that i hate him i can appreciate his idea of chanting MVP! every time alfredsson touches the puck. so to all of you people who get to see the red wings live, whether it be at the JLA or anywhere else, chant MVP every time lidstrom scores, get an assist or even makes a good play, EVEN if he is headed to the penalty box. this way the visiting writers who vote on the awards will constantly be hearing lidstrom for MVP chants and it will leave them with the thought in their minds every time they see the wings play. apparently this same strategy worked well for justin morneau of the MLB so let the chanting of MVP begin!! 12Newf 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2008 (edited) i love it. lidstrom needs a Hart trophy and seriously ovechkin? come on all he does it try to score goals and he takes like 15 shots a game so it stands to reason that they occassionally go in. his assists are just rebounds other people put in. in my opinion, maybe the most overrated player ever and im not the least bit impressed that he has scored like 48 goals in 58 games because gretzky scored 92 in a season. i wouldnt trade samuelsson for ovechkin. for these reasons i think everyone will see right through the ovechkin for hart trophy argument because his shooting percentage must be low. Since many Detroitians who go to the games are only casual we need all the Season ticket holder's to definetly say it loud and the casual's will follow suit. Opie 308 Report post Posted February 15, 2008 Listen, I love the idea, and I would love to see Lids take home the Hart, but seriously if Ovechkin wins the Southleast (it will be done mostly by him and Kolzig) or even if they make the playoffs he is hands down the winner. That team has nothing. If you are asking me who I would start my team with it is Lids, but who is more valuable to their team right now than AO. You take away AO and put Lids on that team and you have a team that has a lot more losses than they do now and a d-man who is probably a -. I know that saying Lids could be a minus in any situation is blasphemy but honestly that team sucks. Now you take away Lids and add AO, the wings status in the league doesn't change too much because of the other talent on the team. But a forward line with AO and Dats, hell you could put me out there and that line is still the best in Hockey!!! Plus the voters more often than not see the Norris as Defense MVP, Vezina as Goalie MVP and therefore that leaves the Hart for forwards. Not that I agree but that is how I think they see it! 12Newf 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2008 but just because the league wants to give it to AO we need to get lidstroms name out there. and to do that we chant. ovechkin may be the best goal scorer, probably the fastest skater, he may be huge and knock everyone in his way on their asses and he may even lead the league in points and goals but lidstrom is awesome and therefore should win. case and point. 12Newf 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2008 haha well im glad someone picked up on the sarcasm. ovechkin is one of my favourite players to watch. it is completely impossible for anyone to not love the guy. he is ridiculously talented, is huge and has boundless energy. i would trade ANYONE on our team for ovechkin. i dont think lidstrom has a chance at winning the hart trophy because ovechkin seems like an absolute lock and he deserves it at this point. lidstrom is still one of the most underrated players of all time and i really want to see the guy win a hart trophy because he also deserves it. if a guy like pronger can win one, lidstrom should have 5. nick is having an amazing season and i agree with babcock and holland in that just because lidstrom has one hell of a supporting cast doesnt mean he isnt the league's most valuable player. p.s. Well if you're comparing players to Gretzky, what makes Lidstrom so impressive? Why not just give it to 99 again? He wills the puck over the line from the bench. Oh, and he's actually a good setup man. He just plays on a line with either Nylander, Backstrom, Kozlo (slumping all season)... assists aren't racking up for him with those guys. EDIT: Oops. THE POSTS ABOUT OVECHKIN ARE SUPPOSED TO BE JOKES! IT IS SARCASM! thats why as i say he is overrated i point out that he is leading the nhl in basically every meaningful category.
