Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 (edited) OK, honest opinions people, are we ANY chance of acquiring Fedorov? I hated him for leaving, but as they say time heals all wounds and I'd love to have him back, even if he's half the player he was. ShanahanMan 473 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 (edited) "There are certain assets we're prepared to part with to try to bring in a player, but there are certain young players and assets -- they're not going anywhere," Holland said. "They're part of where we're trying to get to." That, apparently, includes Filppula, and, based on how well he has played the past two games, the list also includes young defenseman Jonathan Ericsson. Holland said he would trade his first-round pick in this year's draft." -Per Freep I hope this doesn't mean that Holland is ONLY willing to part with a f**kin draft pick. If so, we're screwed. I hated him for leaving, but as they say time heals all wounds and I'd love to have him back, even if he's half the player he was. It always seemed to be Detroit sources saying it's possible, and Columbus sources saying he's not going anywhere. I wouldn't mind seeing it at all, but I kind of doubt it will happen. I think it's Franzen and Filppula that they're talking about. Hudler and Lebda would be the likeliest to get booted via trade, and I also think there's a chance Kronwall could go, too. But that would have to be a huge move, and looking at our defensive depth, it'd mean we'd need to net another defenseman for our run (and worry about signing another or developing Ericsson for the future). Hudler, Kronwall, and a first is a competitive package that leaves us with a glaring depth problem. I think we'll probably make a small splash, though. Two roster guys. I'd be disappointed with it (I always love a big acquisition at the deadline), and I don't think we need it [clarification: don't think we need just a roster guy -- stay put or make a real impact is my doctrine]. I hate the thought of giving up prospects or picks for someone who isn't a difference maker. Edited February 26, 2008 by Anomalously
Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 (edited) Brad Richards to Dallas? Marian Hossa to Montreal? Check out what's making headlines early on trade deadline day! YAHOO! SPORTS: Ross McKeon reports a source claims the Dallas Stars will ship a package of goaltender Mike Smith, center Jeff Halpern and defenceman Mark Fistric to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for forward Brad Richards. It's also expected the Montreal Canadiens will have outbid the Ottawa Senators for winger Marian Hossa, shipping at least a forward (possibly Michael Ryder) to the Thrashers. WFAA.COM: Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports Stars goalie Mike Smith has heard all the trade rumors and is learning to deal with them. SPECTOR'S NOTE: My thanks to everyone who sent this in earlier this morning while I was catnapping. Much appreciated. I suggests both here and on my message forum that the Stars could be the front-runners as they had the depth to offer up the best package, particularly a goaltender. Smith has shown a lot of promise as a potential starter, splitting the duties in Dallas fairly evenly with Marty Turco earlier in the season until Turco got his groove back around mid-season. He's also affordable and right now that's what the Bolts would need. It'll be interesting to see if this deal happens but I wouldn't be surprised if it did. As for Hossa, expect more than Ryder to be headed to Atlanta if that deal goes down, as the Habs have a lot of promising young players and prospects they could offer up. TSN.CA: Bob McKenzie reports the following: - Sources say LA Kings defenseman Rob Blake has not waived his 'No-trade" clause and has in fact told Kings management he wants to stay. If the Kings do try to shop him, however, it'll have to be to Colorado and significant enough to "incur the wrath of Blake" to force him into accepting a trade. SPECTOR'S NOTE: Will he or won't he? I believe he won't go but we'll find out soon enough. - The Chicago Blackhawks last night e-mailed a list to all NHL teams of eight players they consider available. Among them: Nikolai Khabibulin, Martin Havlat, Robert Lang, Tuomo Ruutu, Martin Lapointe, Yanic Perreault, Andrei Zyuzin and Rene Bourque. SPECTOR'S NOTE: So much for the Blackhawks being buyers at the deadline. Of this list, the most tempting could be Havlat, Lang, Ruutu, Perreault and Bourque, although Havlat's injury history and salary ($6 million for next season) and Ruutu's injury history could scare off potential suitors. Khabibulin's earning far too much for next season ($6.75 million) and not playing well enough to attract interest. -Ottawa and Montreal are considered front-runners for Marian Hossa. Ottawa's offer is believed to include Antoine Vermette, Montreal's Chris Higgins, although the Habs have the depth in prospects and draft picks to perhaps get the deal done. SPECTOR'S NOTE: As a Habs fan I would be upset to lose Higgins but if the Canadiens could re-sign Hossa or he helps lead them to the Stanley Cup this spring it would make it worthwhile. It would likely take Higgins as the centerpiece to pry Hossa out of Atlanta. - The San Jose Sharks are said to be pursuing Buffalo's Brian Campbell and Toronto's Pavel Kubina. Adam Foote is trying to re-sign with the Columbus Blue Jackets and is expected to sign with them, but if he were to accept a trade it would only be to his former team, the Colorado Avalanche. SPECTOR'S NOTE: With Peter Forsberg returning to Colorado it would be like old home week if Foote and/or Blake returned today. I doubt either will happen, especially Foote as he's expressed his intent to re-sign with the Jackets and it appears a deal could be happening soon. TSN.CA: Darren Dreger reports the NY Islanders are rumored to be closing in on a one-year contract extension with forward Mike Comrie. SPECTOR'S NOTE: I'll be very surprised if this falls through and Comrie is shopped. NEWSDAY: Steve Zipay reports the NY Rangers are pushing for perhaps two defensemen at the trade deadline having lost Paul Mara for at least two weeks to broken bones in his face. It's believed the Blueshirts have interest in Columbus's Ron Hainsey and Colorado's John-Michael Liles, among others. SPECTOR'S NOTE: It could also force them into retaining the much-maligned Marek Malik if they're unable to land who they're seeking. PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER: Tim Panaccio reports the Flyers were interested in Dan Boyle but may now turn their attention toward Buffalo's Brian Campbell as they need a good puckmoving defenceman. There's also intrigue with defenceman Jason Smith, whom the Flyers might not be able to re-sign and might consider shopping to free up cap space to land a star player. Jeff Carter is also rumored to be available. SPECTOR'S NOTE: Having landed help at forward with Vaclav Prospal last night GM Paul Holmgren might not be done. SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS: David Pollak reports the Sharks have been in contact with nearly every NHL team looking for bolster their roster. They're believed interested in Buffalo's Brian Campbell and the Kings Rob Blake as well as having interest in Toronto's Tomas Kaberle and Tampa Bay's Dan Boyle, and also had conversations with Atlanta regarding Marian Hossa. SPECTOR'S NOTE: Hat tip to GJ Berg. The Sharks have been almost a permanent fixture in this season's rumor mill but thus far the big trade they're expected to make hasn't materialized. Could today be the day? MINNEAPOLIS STAR-TRIBUNE: Michael Russo reports the Wild's recent three-game losing skid could put pressure on GM Doug Risebrough to make a trade today. Risebrough would like to add a defenseman but it might also cost him one in return, and might not be willing to overpay for a star player (like center Olli Jokinen of Florida) as some teams did last season. Russo suggests Risebrough might instead have interest in centers like Atlanta's Bobby Holik or Columbus' Sergei Fedorov or Michael Peca. SPECTOR'S NOTE: I'd say Holik might be the most enticing, having previously played for Jacques Lemaire during their days with the Devils back in the 1990s. RALEIGH NEWS & OBSERVER: Luke DeCock reports Carolina Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford hinted at possibly making a deadline deal after all. He's seeking depth at center and has narrowed his search down to two players. SPECTOR'S NOTE: Hat tip to "Gene". It'll be interesting to see who Rutherford has in mind. Maybe one of those centers noted in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune? T. Ruutu, J. Carter could be nice addition - Jokinen ($5M) is available - let's pay the price and bring 6'-5'' center. I would rather have him than Hossa anyway... Seems like Smith is available - just type of defensmen that we need... http://www.spectorshockey.net/ [At minimum you should link to your source. This is someone else's work, obviously, and they make ad revenue off of their work. --Anomalously] Edited February 26, 2008 by Anomalously

YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 Alright...Im starting to think I might just have to be content with a Satan or Fedorov addtion...but I really hope not. And this Kronwall for Campbell and Stafford deal is really starting to grow on me. And if its true that Holland said he was willing to trade his first rounder, then I dont see why we couldnt go with a Kronwall and a 1st for Campbell, Stafford and a 2nd, which basically equates to Kronwall and a 1st to Stafford, a 2nd, and 2 months of Campbell. I dont think wed be able to retain Campbell..
