Herr Hockey 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2008 Matt Ellis is apparently on waivers, according to eklund. Is this related to injuries, McCarty, or a trade?

HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted February 20, 2008 I really like Ellis, but I can see why they'd put him on waivers. If he does get picked up I wish him the best and hopefully he'll be a regular with wherever he lands.
ben_usmc 253 Report post Posted February 20, 2008 Why not just put him in some sort of trade deal, that makes much more sense. Quincey/Meech/Ellis/Kopecky/Hudler are the most likely we'd be giving up for someone it just means we'd have another player to offer

Quincey/Meech/Ellis/Kopecky/Hudler are the most likely we'd be giving up for someone it just means we'd have another player to offer Based on the waiver wire this year. Not many people have been picked up. Only Samsanov/Recchi that i know of. and those 2 are skilled forwards.. who still could contribute to the team, Noone has picked up a 4th liner yet that i know of.. Ellis will still be a wing, He just has to pass waivers. and he is in GR..and we retain his services till a later date.. Detroit must be confident that we wont loose ellis on waivers. only reason they would do it.

skacore 2 Report post Posted February 20, 2008 .....Why? It just seems like a good fit... he played his entire OHL career with St. Mikes, he's only 26 and always improving, assuming Toronto does trade away some of their assets at the deadline for prospects and picks, they'd have room for him as a depth forward. A young, hardworking, overachievering, two-way forward would rub off well with the young guys if the Leafs do in fact tank and rebuild

Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted February 20, 2008 I CALL BS!!! No one else is reporting it, we just put three people on IR and only called up two. Plus Ellis could be used in a trade, so this makes no sense even if we were signing Mac right this second. Unless we are for trading forsomeone without giving up anyone, it makes no sense. skacore 2 Report post Posted February 20, 2008 The Leafs have enough of those guys with the Marlies already (Ondrus, Newbury, Mitchell etc.) So does every other organization... it was just a hunch, not a rumour or anything
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted February 20, 2008 No mainstream source has this listed under the transactions. It doesn't make any sense as three spots opened up, and they called up two. Waiving Ellis opens two holes in the roster then. McCarty will only take up one... My sources say McCarty has a contract offer on the table right now, so that is another contradiction with the report. I am waiting for official transactions report, just because it is Eklund. If he was waived, then a trade is going down. Otherwise if we lose him just to lose him, then no one wants him. I also do not believe this.

That's 3 right there. They needed to put him on waivers to make room for the extra defenseman.
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted February 20, 2008 Thanks for the confirmation, wasn't up a minute ago. Also you are right Cleary went on IR for Quincey. I was screwed up because of the IR delay on the fantasy list.
