puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 What an absolute mess tonight was. It's good to know the Wings can provide a rookie goaltender with one goal to work with in his two starts so far. And I bet those Canuck fans thought they were pretty cool chanting Howard's name. Our two remaining "veteran" defenceman looked like rookies tonight. Lebda and Lilja's inability to make very simple plays at the blueline essentially put this game away. It was only the fans on each end of the arena... the rest of the crowd didn't even know who Howie is, so they had to be able to read the name on the jersey to do their oh-so-appropriate razz-chant. It is a fact that the true veteran defensemen being out injured has destroyed the effectiveness of the scoring line, since there is no one there to spring them loose anymore. Our lack of offense is apparently tied to the lack of defense. Scary. Edmonton may suck, but we suck more right now... and no one in sight returning for weeks except maybe Kronner. J-Swift 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 I thought Stafford was good too, he makes decisions at NHL speed. Quincey was great, very physical. Ericsson was solid also. Totally agree. In the very limited ice-time Stafford had, he looked pretty decent. And Quincey showed he has an edge to his game, which is something I didn't see a lot of when he played in the post-season for us. Despite being on the ice for every goal tonight, I honestly think Ericsson looked pretty good too. He got some decent chances pinching in from the blueline. awingsincebirth 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 Here's a good question, why would anyone waive a "No Trade" to come to Detroit?? With the tailspin the team is in and the rash of injuries we've had... We are really in a weak position as far as being a desired desitination don't you think? Well, I kind of think that a player in the NHL would look at the bigger picture when he decides what team to go to. We ARE still the best team in the league. We DO still have a solid goalie tandem, the best defensemen, and another top 5 defensemen in the league, two of the most dynamic offensive players in the league, and when this team is healthy it is very good. I realize that all of these aspects have been put to the test of late, but I think we are still a fairly appealing target location.

This quote comes from my brother who is a habs fan and does not like the Wings: Once healthy the Wings are the team in the West I would LEAST like to see if the Habs make the cup so yeah I think most people look at the bigger picture

datsyukismyfriend 4 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 The Wings are a bunch of ******* women. Their getting their asses kicked, yet just sit around and take it. Any other team in the league would be out looking for blood, but no, not the ******* ***** ass Red Wings. so you'd rather they goon it up because they can't win? yeah, that's mature. that's exactly the identity i'd want a team to have. Well, they would come bcause they know we're goign to turn it on again. If I were a player, I think I'd realize that all these guys are coming back for the playoffs and it is the same team that was unstoppable until two and a half weeks ago. So I'd take another week or two of losses playing for Detroit with the promise of a Cup.

Yes and their is no guarantee that any of these players will be back at full capacity before the playoffs... in fact at our current rate of slippage its mathematically possible we wont mak ethe playoffs. I'm simply making the point that a player like Sundin maybe more likely to go to another top team without the issues the wings currently have.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 Anyone catch Holland's comments after the game? I could be totally reaching, but his remarks and more importantly, his body language seemed to hint that we're getting Hossa. Now, I wonder what secondary players we'll get? Salei and Federov would be nice, but how likely are they?

I think that the Hossa trade will go to the team with an offer that best helps the Thrashers stay in playoff contention, and Filppula is not that...
adtthosa 5 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 Ahhh, painful game to watch. Doesn't help that I have to be at work in less than 8 hours either thanks to the late start. I know we have a lot of players out of the lineup, but it's hard to feel good about this team right now. It was barely a month ago when we were hardly concerned at all heading into the trade deadline. Crazy how quickly things can change. Anyways, the game. Howard was good, our defense was good for what it was (way too many turnovers though, and none of them can hold the blueline yet on the PP) and our offense sucked again. I hope we trade Hudler, that guy is so useless. So this is what it feels like to have a crappy team. First time that I can remember living through a tough stretch like this. Just goes to show how spoiled we are as Red Wing fans. Get healthy, boys.
